He was an actor and writer, known for Bob & Ray, Jane, Laraine & Gilda (TV Special) (1979), The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1962) and Author! Author! (1982). He was married to Mary Elizabeth Leader. He died on March 24, 1990 in Manhasset, New York, USA.

He and Bob Elliott made up the comedy team "Bob and Ray".
