In 2010, Peter noticed that he had a slight tremor in his right hand, and while filming the short movie Through the Window, he struggled to maintain his stamina, had difficulty making decisions and multi-tasking, and suffered from unusual and persistent muscle fatigue. In 2015, after seeing a neurologist, Peter was diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson's Disease. Realizing a few years prior to his diagnosis that it was becoming increasingly difficult, physically and cognitively, for him to handle the strenuous demands of filmmaking, in 2012 Peter decided to gradually step away from filmmaking and enter the world of live theatre as a playwright.
