Rod Serling’s Original Screenplay for Planet Of The Apes (1968) Adapted as Graphic Novel Planet Of The Apes: Visionaries

  • DailyDead
While he is credited as one of the writers for the original Planet of the Apes movie (based on Pierre Boulle's novel La Planète des singes), Rod Serling's screenplay was drastically transformed from its initial conception, leaving The Twilight Zone creator's version of the iconic story left untold... until now.

Boom! Studios and 20th Century Fox Consumer Products have teamed up to release Planet of the Apes: Visionaries, a graphic novel adaptation of Serling's script that features intelligent, nicely-dressed apes living in a vibrant city of skyscrapers and advanced technology.

Artist Chad Lewis and writer/actor Dana Gould (creator of Stan Against Evil and a passionate fan of Planet of the Apes) adapted Serling's screenplay to graphic novel form. You'll be able to read the new graphic novel when it's released in comic book shops this August, and in the meantime, you can view new artwork and

Rod Serling’s original Planet of the Apes comes to life at Boom! Studios

Boom! Studios has announced that it is set to celebrate fifty years of Planet of the Apes with a comic book adaptation based upon The Twilight Zone creator Rod Serling’s unproduced screenplay for the iconic film, entitled Planet of the Apes: Visionaries.

On the road to making the landmark science-fiction classic, 20th Century Fox commissioned Rod Serling to adapt the French novel La Planete des singes. Serling’s first draft, which was drastically revised before filming, is a radically different vision of the franchise than the one the world has come to know and love. Taylor is Thomas, and Ape City isn’t a crude, primitive grouping of huts; instead, it’s a bustling and urbane metropolis filled with cars and skyscrapers and a vibrant Ape culture. In a world where Apes wear modern clothes, drive modern cars and rule the late night talk show scene, the arrival

Best 25 Horror Oscar Winners, Ranked
Most people think that snobby Oscar voters through the decades have turned their backs on the horror genre. Not so. True, far more horror flicks have been nominated for Oscars — including many Alfred Hitchcock movies — than have won. Hitch was nominated six times for Best Director and never took home a gold statue, which is why he was awarded an Honorary Oscar in 1968. “Thank you,” he said, and walked offstage.

We scoured the record books to find 25 Oscar-winning horror movies, and herewith rank them for you.

After heated arguments among the IndieWire staff, we threw out a dozen or so monster movies (“King Kong,” “Mighty Joe Young,” “Jurassic Park”), ghost films (“Ghost”) and scary psychological thrillers like Hitchcock’s “Spellbound” that just didn’t feel like horror flicks to us.

Defining a horror movie is subjective. Is it about gore and guts and supernatural beings, or how it makes you feel?

‘The Problem with Apu’ Has A Few Problems Itself

Comedian Hari Kondabolu has had a problem with The Simpsons character Apu. So much so that he decided to make a documentary about it. The documentary is called The Problem with Apu and airs nationwide on truTV Sunday, November 19 at 10Pm Et/Pt and will be available on all VOD but there are somethings that you might want to know before going into it.

There’s a lot of opinion and some facts.

So obviously going into this, Kondabolu makes it clear that he has problems with Apu. I mean it’s pretty much the title. So you should be aware that there will be both opinions and facts in this doc. The facts are based off of what Kondabolu had to go through in his life as well as what some other actors, actresses, doctors etc. had to face when dealing with racism that they believe have to do

Stan Against Evil: Season Two Ratings

Despite minuscule ratings which would have seen it cancelled elsewhere, IFC renewed its Stan Against Evil TV show for a second season. The cable network is known for its quirky, cult programming, but at some point, even artists have to pay the rent. How long can this TV series survive with such low numbers? Will Stan Against Evil be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. An IFC horror-comedy from creator Dana Gould, Stan Against Evil stars John C. McGinley, Janet Varney, Nate Mooney, and Deborah Baker Jr. Guest stars in season two include Denise Boutte, Jeffrey Combs, David Koechner, Patty McCormack, and Steven Ogg. Set in the seemingly quaint but haunted small town of Willard's Mill, New Hampshire, the story centers on disgruntled former sheriff Stan Miller (McGinley). In the second season, a reluctant Stan has to investigate the disappearance of

Creature Comforts: Daily Dead Visits the Home of a Demon Slayer on the Set of Stan Against Evil Season 2

  • DailyDead
There are 172 demons in the town of Willard’s Mill, and it’s up to retired sheriff Stan Miller (John C. McGinley) to stop them. There’s only one problem: Stan would rather take a nap. There is no rest for the recently retired, though, and Stan has even more undead mayhem to deal with in the new episodes of IFC’s Stan Against Evil. The second season of the horror comedy series premieres tonight on IFC, and this past summer, Daily Dead and a group of other journalists had the great pleasure of visiting the Atlanta set to see Stan’s demon-slaying arsenal and favorite recliner in person.

Nestled on a quiet neighborhood street just outside of Atlanta, the two-story home looks like a peaceful place, with its sprawling front porch and red and white colors giving it the appearance of a tranquil farmhouse. But while this home may

Deadline is reporting that Kate Micucci (The Big Bang Theory), Sam Huntington (Rosewood), Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) are set to star in director Vivieno Caldinelli (This House Has 22 Minutes) dark comedy Corpse Tub.

The film “follows a young Midwestern couple (Micucci, Huntington) who take a chance on moving to L.A. when they find an apartment with impossibly low rent. It’s soon revealed that the former occupant was an enigmatic cult leader (Taika Waititi) who ended his life in the claw-foot bathtub. Now, a steady stream of his eccentric cult members break into the apartment to kill themselves in the tub in honor of their leader. Unable to afford another move, they soon find themselves inexplicably drawn into the cult, all the while navigating the inquiries of a beleaguered Lapd detective (Harmon) obsessed with selling a screenplay based on his own life.”

Watch John C. McGinley Watch Himself in Office Space in New Promo Video for Stan Against Evil Season 2

  • DailyDead
"Office Space... there's a comedy. They ought to call it Bobspace. It's all about the Bobs." If you watched the first season of Stan Against Evil (which I highly recommend), then you know that Stan (played by John C. McGinley) would rather just sit back in his chair and enjoy his retirement instead of getting blood sprayed on him all the time while slaying demons and saving the world. Well, in a new promo video released by IFC, McGinley gets to do just that, although what he ends up watching is himself as one of the Bobs in the cult classic comedy Office Space.

You can watch the new promo video below, and in case you missed it, watch the teaser trailer for the second season of Stan Against Evil, which premieres on November 1st on IFC.

Press Release: More Monsters. Deadlier Demons. Same Stan. In an all-new Season 2 trailer

'Simpsons' Doc 'The Problem with Apu' Confronts South Asian Stereotypes
South Asian American comedian Hari Kondabolu explores the legacy of Apu – the Indian convenience store owner in The Simpsons, voiced by a white actor – in the upcoming documentary, The Problem With Apu.

"I was obsessed with The Simpsons growing up and it has greatly influenced my comedy," Kondabolu said in a statement. "However, as my mother proves, you can criticize something you love because you expect more from it. For the longest time, Apu was the most prominent representation of South Asian Americans, and despite how much our society has

Emmys: Andy Samberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Jane Lynch Share Their Recipes for Hosting Success

Emmys: Andy Samberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Jane Lynch Share Their Recipes for Hosting Success
The 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards memorably opened with a pre-taped sketch that saw then-host Andy Samberg becoming increasingly overwhelmed with the amount of television shows his friends were watching but on which he was not caught up. The year was 2015, when there were about 409 scripted shows on broadcast, cable and streaming, and Samberg’s solution was to enter an underground bunker, armed with a stack of DVDs, determined not to come out until he knew all there was to know about the hottest shows of the year.

Though Samberg doesn’t consider himself a “particularly political” comedian, he does feel that the need to be topical ebbs and flows in comedy. The Emmys, which this year will be hosted by Stephen Colbert, offer a perfect opportunity to focus on what’s going on in the industry, if not also the world.

“It was really born of just being in the writers’ room with everybody and just

Cinematic Titanic: The Complete Collection Review

Brad Cook reviews Cinematic Titanic: The Complete Collection…

The end of Mystery Science Theater 3000’s first run didn’t spell the end of riffing on bad movies. Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett continued the tradition with The Film Crew and RiffTrax, and Joel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu, Frank Coniff, Mary Jo Pehl, and J. Elvis Weinstein created Cinematic Titanic. Shout! Factory was previously involved in The Film Crew, and now they’ve put out all 12 movies riffed by Cinematic Titanic in a new Complete Collection.

Hodgson and his fellow riffers play themselves in Cinematic Titanic. The premise is that a mysterious organization, perhaps a corporation or a military force, has kidnapped them and forced them to riff on bad movies as part of a complicated plan that has something to do with a tear in the “electron scaffolding.” It seems a bit convoluted and unnecessary – I have always

‘The Problem with Apu’ Trailer: New Documentary Looks at Negative Impact of Classic ‘Simpsons’ Character
In the history of “The Simpsons,” few characters outside the title family have had as much cultural impact as Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, the Springfield convenience store owner. Comedian Hari Kondabolu is out to show why that might be a problem.

The trailer for the upcoming truTV documentary “The Problem with Apu” shows Kondabolu’s conversations with a number of South Asian actors and comedians, including Kal Penn, Hasan Minhaj, and Sakina Jaffrey, all talking about how the character has affected their personal and professional lives.
