Leslie Grossman Reflects on the Endurance of Mary Cherry and Rejoining Ryan Murphy’s World (Exclusive)
No one is more excited about Leslie Grossman’s return to Ryan Murphy’s world than Leslie Grossman herself. The self-professed TV fangirl, who admits to binging on shows like Westworld and The Handmaid’s Tale (and who has proudly watched every single episode of Housewives and Saturday Night Live), first worked with Murphy for the short-lived WB high school drama series Popular back in 1999.

Her highly quotable character, Mary Cherry, whom Murphy created specifically for her, seemed to temporarily typecast Grossman as a slightly oblivious, decidedly spoiled cheerleader type, and over the years, Grossman played into the caricature on shows like Nip/Tuck (another Murphy creation), What I Like About You and Modern Family.

Christopher Gorham’s ‘A Boy Called Po’ Lands September Release
Freestyle Digital Media has acquired the North American rights to John Asher’s family drama “A Boy Called Po,” starring Christopher Gorham, Julian Feder, and Kaitlin Doubleday, Variety has learned exclusively.

The film will be released in domestic theaters and on digital platforms on Sept. 1. It has been honored as the 2016 breakthrough feature at the San Diego International Film Festival and best feature film at Palm Beach International Film Festival.

Double Dutch International, headed by Jason Moring, is handling international sales rights and will introduce the title to international buyers during the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival in September.

Inspired by true events, “A Boy Called Po” tells the story of a recently widowed father (Gorham) struggling to raise his sixth-grade son (Feder) who has autism. The pressure of work, school, and coping with the loss of wife and mom push the two nearly to the point of breaking.

Christopher Gorham’s ‘We Love You, Sally Carmichael!’ Lands August Release
Independent comedy “We Love You, Sally Carmichael!” has been set for an Aug. 4 domestic release from Purdie Distribution, Variety has learned exclusively.

“Sally” is the feature directing debut for actor Christopher Gorham. It’s produced by Adam Abel through his production company Go Films and executive produced by Daryn Tufts and David Nibley of Flinch Films.

Gorham plays Simon Hayes, an author who is ashamed to have secretly written “Siren,” an incredibly popular series of young adult romance novels that chronicle the epic love story between a human girl and a merman under the pen name, Sally Carmichael.

Looks like the beauty pageant is back on: Netflix has scooped up Debby Ryan’s failed CW pilot Insatiable, giving the hour-long dark comedy a 13-episode order.

Our sister site Deadline reports that the streaming service is finalizing a deal with CBS Television Studios, which would make Insatiable a Netflix original series. Disney Channel alum Ryan (Jessie) stars as a bullied teen who enters the world of beauty pageants to exact revenge on her tormentors. Dallas Roberts (The Walking Dead) co-stars as her pageant coach; TV veterans Alyssa Milano and Christopher Gorham also signed on to join the supporting cast.

SAG-AFTRA Launches Negotiations With Jane Lynch, Brandon Routh in Support
Gary Cole, Christopher Gorham, Jane Lynch and Brandon Routh attended the opening of contract negotiations Wednesday in support of SAG-AFTRA.

Formal talks launched under a news blackout at the Sherman Oaks headquarters of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. High-profile SAG-aftra members have often appeared during previous negotiations.

.SAG-aftra and Hollywood producers are facing the June 30 expiration of the current three-year agreement. SAG-aftra president Gabrielle Carteris chairs the union’s negotiating committee and national executive director David White will serve as SAG-aftra’s chief negotiator. AMPTP’s lead negotiator is president Carol Lombardini.

The two sides began informal negotiations on May 17. Key issues for the union are likely to include employer contributions to shore up the separate SAG and AFTRA pension plans; dealing with options and exclusivity rules due to shortened seasons in TV, also known as the “span” issue; and changes in how performers are compensated for travel.

Disney Channel grad Debby Ryan stars as a vengeance-minded teen who enters the world of beauty pageants with the help of lawyer-turned-pageant coach Bob (The Walking Dead alum Dallas Roberts).
