The incredibly strange story of David O Russell's Nailed

Now called Accidental Love, comedy Nailed began as a David O Russell movie more than seven years ago. Here's a look at its strange story...

Despite its stellar cast, which includes Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal and James Brolin, it's possible that you've never heard of the forthcoming comedy Accidental Love. It's almost certain that you haven't heard of its director Stephen Greene, because he doesn't exist.

The Accidental Love saga takes in Oscar-nominated director David O Russell, dodgy financiers, multiple production shut-downs, cast walk-outs and questionable name changes. Until recently, it looked as though the film would never see the light of day at all.

Accidental Love began life as Nailed, a screwball political comedy co-written by Russell and Kristin Gore (daughter of Us politician Al Gore). For Russell, whose previous film I Heart Huckabees had struggled at the box office, Nailed was supposed to be a "fresh page and »

Watch the Trailer For Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel's Bizarre Romantic Comedy

6 January 2015 8:36 AM, PST | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

David O. Russell's film previously known as Nailed has a new title and a first trailer, despite having been filmed seven years ago. Accidental Love is the story of a waitress (Jessica Biel) who gets spurned by her fiancé (James Marsden) after she gets a nail shot into her head and can't afford to get it removed. She seeks out a handsome politician (Jake Gyllenhaal) to help her reform health care, and wackiness ensues. This movie isn't at all like Russell's latest films American Hustle or The Fighter, but it might remind you of Flirting With Disaster, his 1996 comedy. Since Russell drew out of the project, directing credit is going to Stephen Greene, and it's written by former Saturday Night Live writer Kristin Gore, also known for being Al Gore's daughter. It's a weird one, and it costars Bill Hader, Tracy Morgan, Catherine Keener, and James Brolin. Check out the trailer below, »

Nailed Becomes Accidental Love As Missing David O. Russell Film Gets A Trailer

6 January 2015 6:53 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Before there was the internationally acclaimed The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook or American Hustle, there was Nailed – a David O. Russell comedy that has languished in production hell since 2008. Now, effectively disowned by its director, it seems it will finally see the inside of a movie theatre, against all odds, and with the new, less interesting title of Accidental Love.

Starring Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal and James Marsden, and written by Kristin Gore (War Story), Dave Jeser (The Cleveland Show), Matthew Silverstein (Golan The Insatiable) and David O. Russell, the movie takes a swipe at American healthcare provision – setting a romantic comedy amid insurance coverage issues.

“Formerly known as Nailed (David O. Russell), Accidental Love tells the story of a small-town waitress (Biel), who accidentally gets a nail lodged in her head as her boyfriend (Marsden) attempts his marriage proposal. Her predicament leads her on a journey to Washington D. »
