Charles Gordone was born on October 12, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA as Charles Edward Fleming. He was an actor, known for Angel Heart (1987), Coonskin (1975) and Heavy Traffic (1973). He died on November 17, 1995 in College Station, Texas, USA.

First black playwright to win the Pulitzer Prize
Won the 1970 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the play "No Place to be Somebody".
His parents were William and Camille Fleming. His mother later married William L. Gordon, and Charles adopted his stepfather's surname. He added the "e" to "Gordon" when he found that another Charles Gordon was already registered with Actors Equity (the stage actors union) in New York.
