Paramount and DreamWorks Pictures 2009 Picture Preview

30 December 2008 11:40 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Paramount Pictures has just unveiled their 2009 preview and in rather lackluster form I may say as new images from anticipated features such as Martin Scorese's Shutter Island, Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones and Star Trek were nowhere to be found. Fanboy favorites such as G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen also saw zilch in the updated imagery department. We do, however, have new pics from Eddie Murphy's next kid flick, the previously titled Nowhereland, now labeled as Imagine That and to be honest that is about as exciting as it gets in the updates department. All the cast, director and synopsis information is listed over the course of the next few pages as well as all the release dates for 15 new features. Surprisingly enough, only one of them is actual a Paramount Pictures solo release as the majority of these belong to their previous partner DreamWorks. »

Written by Steve ‘Frosty’ Weintraub With the Sundance Film Festival taking place next month, I’ve been sent a ton of images from all the film’s playing. While I’d love to post all of them tonight, since I have images from 50 different films, it’s just not possible. So what I’ve done is taken a few of the new images I’ve been sent and I’m posting them as separate articles tonight. In the coming days and weeks you can expect a lot more image articles. Also, since not much info is known about the movies as no one has seen them yet, I’m using the synopsis’ that are on the official Sundance website. Up now is “500 Days if Summer” and it stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel in a new kind of romantic comedy. According to the synopsis, the movie goes something like…Boy »

Wood Ignites Romance With Gordon-Levitt

Actress Evan Rachel Wood has sparked reports she's moved on from her romance with rocker Marilyn Manson - after she was spotted in the arms of actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Los Angeles.

The 21-year-old star and 3rd Rock From The Sun actor, 27, appeared together on 9 November at the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards.

And according to the National Enquirer, Wood has ignited a new love affair.

A source tells the tabloid, "This thing with Joseph has come out of nowhere. They've taken everyone by surprise. They were having so much fun together. They were dancing wildly, drinking and flirting.

"Joseph's a genuinely nice guy. He and Evan Rachel are very compatible and make a cute couple. After her relationship with Manson, there's no doubt in my mind her parents are relived she's finally dating someone clean-cut and closer to her age."

Manson, 39, and Wood began dating in December 2006, following his split from ex-wife, burlesque star Dita Von Teese. They announced their break-up earlier this month. »

Leonardo DiCaprio Won't Be 'Akira'

12 November 2008 5:02 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

It's been two months since we heard anything about the Leonardo DiCaprio-produced Akira. This is a remake that has caused a bit of upset in our comments, as initial reports suggested DiCaprio was set to star alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

However, Gordon-Levitt denied having any connection to the film, and now DiCaprio has clarified his involvement. In an interview with MTV's Splash Page, he denied that he was going to be starring in Akira, nor will he be playing any part in Ninja Scroll (which he just optioned a few weeks ago). He made it clear that his only involvement is as producer, via his Appian Way banner.

So, where does Akira stand in pre-production? Remember, this was once being fast-tracked for a summer 2009 release, which it's obviously not going to make. But that's because DiCaprio is making sure this is handled right: "We're waiting for the final draft of the script. »

'Age of Rage' for Searchlight, Webb

29 October 2008 8:00 PM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Fox Searchlight and Marc Webb could be entering a new age.

The specialty division has signed on for a dystopian tale titled "Age of Rage" and is negotiating with Webb to direct and potentially write. The story combines elements of "Children of Men" and "Lord of the Flies," according to those familiar with the project.

"Rage" would mark the second pairing for the director and the studio; Webb is making his directorial debut with "500 Days of Summer," a quirky romantic comedy starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt that Searchlight will release next year.

The Gersh-repped Webb is a noted music-video director who has helmed videos for Snow Patrol, Miley Cyrus and Green Day. "Rage" would add to Searchlight's diverse production slate; the company has such titles as rap biopic "Notorious" and Hess Bros. comedy "Gentlemen Broncos" set for next year. »

News Bites: '10 Things' Heads to TV, Haters, and More

10 October 2008 1:03 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

A long time passed since 10 Things I Hate About You hit the big screen. Julia Stiles got Bourne, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has become a powerhouse on the indie scene, and Heath Ledger ... we know what became of him. I'm guessing that his death and reminiscing moments about his work is what inspired this next piece of news: Ace Showbiz reports that ABC Family is going to make the Shakespeare-inspired film into a television series, with the film's director, Gil Junger, signed on to helm the pilot. In it, Kate and Bianca Stratford will face "their new high school environment." I don't know if that means freshman hitting the big leagues, or the girls moving to a new zip code, but I can only hope that they come up with a new love interest for Kate. There's only one Patrick Verona.

Hater has been on a long road to production, but it »

Who's the Next Big Male Movie Star?

29 September 2008 1:15 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Can anyone catch up to this cool cat? With Shia Labeouf's Eagle Eye taking the top spot at the box-office this weekend it makes four-in-a-row for the actor (not counting the animated Surf's Up) and it made me wonder if the 22-year-old is our next big time actor or if it's just a case of him starring in the right film at the right time that has made his films so popular leaving the title of "The Next Big Thing" up for grabs. Let's face it, Transformers and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull were going to make big bucks no matter what, Shia had very little, if anything, to do with their success. One could make the argument that Disturbia opened during a very weak time in 2007 and that accounts for its three week box-office domination with rather modest numbers, winning that third weekend with barely over $9 million. »
