Newswire: Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt launch charm offensive in new musical

24 March 2017 4:23 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

It’s Friday, so we’re ready to take a load off and celebrate the thwarting of the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. And what better way to kick up our heels than to revel in the news that professional charmers Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are going to combine their powers to put on what could possibly be the most personable musical ever? Variety reports the two affable actors, who last worked together on Stop-Loss, will star in a musical film that Gordon-Levitt will also direct. It won’t be much of a departure for Tatum, who recently starred in Hail, Caesar!, or Gordon-Levitt, who did all kinds of musical things for the now-defunct Pivot.

The film has a working title—Wingmen—and a plot that will center on two pilots (Tatum and Gordon-Levitt) who crash-land in Las Vegas, and presumably have to sing their way out of »

Is Akira Finally Emerging From Development Hell?

24 March 2017 1:48 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Way back in 2002, Warner Bros. acquired the rights to Katushiro Otomo’s classic manga/anime Akira. The film promptly sank into development hell though, with every attempt to begin production running into budgetary, scheduling or casting issues. Today, however,  it was revealed that the studio is eager to get the production moving again, no doubt fuelled by the anticipated success of Rupert Sanders’ Ghost In The Shell.

Akira takes place in Neo-Tokyo, a city built on the ruins of old Tokyo after a gigantic and devastating explosion. Its heroes are biker gang members Tetsuo and Kaneda, who become embroiled in a government conspiracy to unlock latent psychic talents. The anime beautifully combines sleek cyberpunk yumminess, body horror and surreal dream elements, all set to a cacophonously bizarre soundtrack of dissonant chanting.

Rumors are that Warner Bros. is approaching two directors – Daniel Espinosa (Life) and David Sandberd (Light’s Out). Both are currently hot properties, »

Rogen will play an unemployed journalist, battered by his own misfortune and self-destructive ways, who endeavors to pursue Theron’s character — his childhood crush and babysitter, who now happens to be one of the most powerful and unattainable women on earth. The script is written by veteran comedy scribe Dan Sterling. Production is expected to begin in August.

Today is the 20th anniversary of the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” premiere, and the day that “The Vampire Diaries” airs its series finale — a day sure to go down in broadcast history as Vampire TV Day.

This whole Nightwing movie thing has really taken on a life of its own huh?  Let’s go through the sequence of events.  First we have a poll that was conducted on who fans thinks should play Nightwing in whatever feature film eventually gets made.  Fans went with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as their number one overall pick.  While I think he’d be great in the role, I wrote why I didn’t think he should even entertain it. Then just hours later you had Jared Padalecki saying that he always wanted to play Nightwing.  This prompted to draw up a nice piece of

Jared Padalecki Wants to Play Nightwing and New Fan Art Emerges

26 February 2017 2:00 AM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Now that a Nightwing feature film is being talked about to no end, there’s all kinds of speculation out there as to who might play the hero.  Yesterday we found out that in a recent fan poll, people wanted Joseph Gordon-Levitt to play the part.  I argued against it and still agree with my stance.  While I’m sure he’d nail the role, he just doesn’t need it for his career right now.   However, a new name has emerged today:  Jared Padalecki. When asked straight up by a fan on Twitter whether Padalecki would like to play the character, he responded

Jared Padalecki Says He’s Always Wanted To Play Nightwing, New Fan Art Emerges

25 February 2017 8:00 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s been an exciting week for Batfans, as Warner Bros. dropped several bombshells that sent the internet into a frenzy. As if confirming that Matt Reeves and Ben Affleck were both locked in for The Batman wasn’t enough, they also revealed that a Nightwing movie is now in development. Understandably, fans were ecstatic at the news and already, casting wish lists are popping up left, right and center.

Not only that, but several actors have begun to express interest in the role as well, and though the studio hasn’t given us any sort of indication as to who they may have their eye on, one person they might want to look at is Jared Padalecki. For a while now, fans have been calling for him to suit up as the hero and it seems that the Supernatural star is definitely interested in playing the part.

Dear Joseph Gordon-Levitt: Don’t Play Nightwing

Of all the actors out there, one guy who I respect more than most is Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  Not only do I think he’s an incredible talent but I feel like he’s made the right role decisions in his career.  I mean we’re talking way back to when he was in A River Runs Through It as a kid.  Then his role on 30 Rock from the Sun which seems like an eternity ago.  He earned his wings on teeny bopper flicks like 10 Things I Hate about You but once we all saw him in 500 Days of Summer he

Nightwing: 5 Actors Who Could Take On The Role Of Dick Grayson

Yesterday, we learned that there will be a live action Nightwing film that will be directed by Chris McKay! So who is Chris McKay and why is this huge news? Outside of Robot Chicken, Morel Orel (funny if you remember the '80ish Sunday morning Christian show), and -- wait -- that is about it, right? So what has he done? Oh yeah. The Lego Batman Movie. He was able to combine all of the "negative & dark" elements of Batman and make him into a character that you originally love to hate, but finally are totally on-board with. Many are saying that The Lego Batman is the best Batman ever featured on the big screen, including Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

At this point with all the back and forth of Affleck and the possibility of The Batman movie, I do not care what I hear, until I see a trailer. »

Breaking: Live-Action Nightwing To Be Directed By Lego Batman's Chris Mckay

Dan Didio is turning over in his grave, or at least he would be if he was passed on to the eternal life where comic book gods go. If you do not know, he made a damn good effort to kill Nightwing quite awhile ago, and he was a huge part of DC Comics, and is the co-producer of DC Comics now. Well, whether he likes it or not, it sounds like we'll be seeing more Nightwing.

We have just learned that the Lego Batman director Chris McKay will be helming a live action Nightwing movie.

I think we all have a bit of a Ben Affleck, Batman, headache right now, so my endorphins are flowing with this news. But What has McKay done with Robin/Nightwing so far?

Stx Films has snapped up the rights to the sea survival tale Adrift, which will see Baltasar Kormakur (Everest) directing Shailene Woodley (Divergent) in what is being described as “Gravity on the high seas.”

The film will tell the true story of Tami Oldham, a woman who sets off on a sailing trip with her fiance when their boat is struck by the biggest hurricane in the history of the Pacific Ocean. With her fiance badly injured and their boat in ruins, Tami faces a race against the clock to save herself and the only man she’s ever loved.

“I am very exited to work with the team of Stx given the great experiences I have had with David Kosse and Adam Fogelson,” said Kormakur. “While other studios were aggressive in pursuing this story, Stx’s passion and commitment to sharing Tami’s story convinced me there was no better partner. »
