Newswire: Fox is making a movie musical inspired by Pharrell’s life

5 hours ago | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Perhaps due to the success of La La Land, or perhaps just because singing and dancing is great, it seems everyone wants to make a movie musical these days. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum are collaborating on one, and now Pharrell Williams has another in the works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox will make a musical inspired by Williams’ childhood called Atlantis. Williams and producing partner Mimi Valdes worked with the studio on Hidden Figures, which he also scored. The pair will produce this project as well, along with as Gil Netter. Michael Mayer, best known for his work on Broadway, will direct. THR doesn’t say whether or not Williams would actually score the project, although if he doesn’t, that would be a huge missed opportunity. Apparently, the story cribs a bit from Romeo And Juliet, so be forewarned: This could be very, very sad.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt May Direct the Musical Comedy Starring Him and Channing Tatum

7 hours ago | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

It seemed like a match made in movie heaven when it was announced last year that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum were to headline the R-rated musical comedy, Wingmen, together. Now, in addition to his dancing shoes, Gordon-Levitt may be donning the director’s hat for the Universal movie in his second time directing since his feature […]

“Wingman” Will Be Directed by Joseph Gordon Levitt and Starring Channing Tatum: I’m In

7 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

I’ve been watching Joseph Gordon Levitt since he was in the movie A River Runs Through It.  He’s practically been on screen his entire career and yet he seems like he’s completely on the straight and now.  I personally think that 500 Days of Summer was his coming out party and since that film he’s been a superior star.  Not only does he have incredible dramatic skills but Jgl is hilarious as well.  And let’s not forget he knows how to entertain.  Ever see this guy on Lip Sync Battle?  There’s pretty much nothing this guy can’t do. Now he’s

Channing Tatum Joins Joseph Gordon-Levitt For Wingmen

12 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Having completed all pre-flight checks, Universal is officially moving forward with Wingmen – a project clearly designed to zero in on the film market sweet-spot created by the successes of R-rated action movies, and big-budget musicals. The project – currently in development – will marry those two genres, creating what the studio undoubtedly hopes will be the first R-rated musical to do big business at the box office. The secret to this hoped for success lies in the casting, and Wingmen will toplined by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum.

Reportedly described as “Pitch Perfect meets Book Of Mormon,” the film was originally pitched to Universal by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, 21 Jump Street, 22 Jump Street), and the former is now under consideration to direct the film, as well as star and co-produce. Such an undertaking would be the actor’s second time at the helm of a feature »

Joseph Gordon-Levitt to direct and star in R-rated musical comedy alongside Channing Tatum

26 March 2017 12:25 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Variety is reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks with Universal Pictures about directing the R-rated musical comedy Wingmen, which will also see him starring alongside Channing Tatum.

The project is based on a pitch from Gordon-Levitt and screenwriter Michael Bacall (21 Jump Street) and follows two pilots who crash-land in Las Vegas. It is described as “Pitch Perfect meets Book of Mormon“, and will feature covers of Top 100 hits with a touch of adult humour.

Before Gordon-Levitt entered talks to direct, the studio was cricling filmmakers such as Seth Gordon (Baywatch), James Bobin (The Muppets) and Casey Nicholaw (Book of Mormon). However, it now looks like it will become Gordon-Levitt’s second directorial effort after 2013’s Don Jon. »

It’s Friday, so we’re ready to take a load off and celebrate the thwarting of the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. And what better way to kick up our heels than to revel in the news that professional charmers Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are going to combine their powers to put on what could possibly be the most personable musical ever? Variety reports the two affable actors, who last worked together on Stop-Loss, will star in a musical film that Gordon-Levitt will also direct. It won’t be much of a departure for Tatum, who recently starred in Hail, Caesar!, or Gordon-Levitt, who did all kinds of musical things for the now-defunct Pivot.

Is Akira Finally Emerging From Development Hell?

24 March 2017 1:48 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Way back in 2002, Warner Bros. acquired the rights to Katushiro Otomo’s classic manga/anime Akira. The film promptly sank into development hell though, with every attempt to begin production running into budgetary, scheduling or casting issues. Today, however,  it was revealed that the studio is eager to get the production moving again, no doubt fuelled by the anticipated success of Rupert Sanders’ Ghost In The Shell.

Akira takes place in Neo-Tokyo, a city built on the ruins of old Tokyo after a gigantic and devastating explosion. Its heroes are biker gang members Tetsuo and Kaneda, who become embroiled in a government conspiracy to unlock latent psychic talents. The anime beautifully combines sleek cyberpunk yumminess, body horror and surreal dream elements, all set to a cacophonously bizarre soundtrack of dissonant chanting.

Rumors are that Warner Bros. is approaching two directors – Daniel Espinosa (Life) and David Sandberd (Light’s Out). Both are currently hot properties, »

Rogen will play an unemployed journalist, battered by his own misfortune and self-destructive ways, who endeavors to pursue Theron’s character — his childhood crush and babysitter, who now happens to be one of the most powerful and unattainable women on earth. The script is written by veteran comedy scribe Dan Sterling. Production is expected to begin in August.

This whole Nightwing movie thing has really taken on a life of its own huh?  Let’s go through the sequence of events.  First we have a poll that was conducted on who fans thinks should play Nightwing in whatever feature film eventually gets made.  Fans went with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as their number one overall pick.  While I think he’d be great in the role, I wrote why I didn’t think he should even entertain it. Then just hours later you had Jared Padalecki saying that he always wanted to play Nightwing.  This prompted to draw up a nice piece of

Now that a Nightwing feature film is being talked about to no end, there’s all kinds of speculation out there as to who might play the hero.  Yesterday we found out that in a recent fan poll, people wanted Joseph Gordon-Levitt to play the part.  I argued against it and still agree with my stance.  While I’m sure he’d nail the role, he just doesn’t need it for his career right now.   However, a new name has emerged today:  Jared Padalecki. When asked straight up by a fan on Twitter whether Padalecki would like to play the character, he responded

Jared Padalecki Says He’s Always Wanted To Play Nightwing, New Fan Art Emerges

It’s been an exciting week for Batfans, as Warner Bros. dropped several bombshells that sent the internet into a frenzy. As if confirming that Matt Reeves and Ben Affleck were both locked in for The Batman wasn’t enough, they also revealed that a Nightwing movie is now in development. Understandably, fans were ecstatic at the news and already, casting wish lists are popping up left, right and center.

Not only that, but several actors have begun to express interest in the role as well, and though the studio hasn’t given us any sort of indication as to who they may have their eye on, one person they might want to look at is Jared Padalecki. For a while now, fans have been calling for him to suit up as the hero and it seems that the Supernatural star is definitely interested in playing the part.
