‘Alien Nation’ Reboot In the Works On Sci-Fi

1 July 2009 5:07 PM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

According to Variety, the Sci-Fi Channel is developing a reboot of Alien Nation, the 1988 feature film starring James Caan and Mandy Patinkin that led to a a spinoff series on Fox. Spearheading the new series for the network will be Tim Minear, former Angel writer/producer and veteran of other sci-fi shows like The X-Files, Firefly and Strange World — a rather interesting show made with Howard Gordon that only lasted one season.

In case you’re not familiar with the premise of Alien Nation, it centers on the partnership between a veteran cop and his alien detective partner, set against a world where alien “newcomers” have landed on Earth and are attempting to assimilate into society. Of course, assimilation is easier said than done and as the unlikely partners relationship grows stronger, so do the obstacles that these two face from within the department and the world at large. Blu-Ray Review: Kiefer Sutherland, ‘24’ Continue to Set the Bar

12 June 2009 11:08 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The standard DVD season sets for “24” have long been setting the bar for what TV on DVD “should be”. Winning awards for their technical transfers and detailed, copious special features, the producers of “24“‘s home releases took it a step further this year by changing the game yet again with the Blu-Ray release of “24: Season Seven”.

Blu-Ray Rating: 5.0/5.0 After a lackluster first season release (which they made up for with a “Special Edition” a few years later), the next five seasons of “24” were essentially perfect TV on DVD releases. They had informative, detailed special features, gorgeous video & audio, and fascinating commentary tracks. And it didn’t hurt that they were for some of the most beloved programming of the ’00s.

Season seven was clearly a chance for “24” to change the game again. The sixth season had been a clear winner for worst of the series to date by »

Drew Carey is expanding shop at CBS.

The comedian who hosts the network's signature daytime game show "The Price Is Right," has inked a two-year first-look production deal with CBS Television Studios (formerly CBS Paramount Network TV) for scripted and non-scripted programs.

Under the pact, Carey will shepherd projects through his CBS-based company International Mammoth TV.

Former Paramount TV executive Andrew Horne has joined Imt as senior vp and will oversee all development under Carey's deal.

In addition to exec producing, Carey is open to performing on shows his company produces. He already appears in CBS primetime as the host of "The Price is Right Million Dollar Spectaculars" specials.

CBS TV Studios president David Stapf first met Carey at Warner Bros. TV where Stapf was a PR and marketing exec and Carey was the star of the then-fledging Wbtv comedy series "The Drew Carey Show."

Sutherland, Producers on 24 Season 8 Plot Details

14 May 2009 9:57 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

You can’t keep a badass counter terrorist agent down. Bio-weapon infection with no known antidote? Pfft. Whatever. Jack Bauer shakes that off like other people shake off overgrown toenails. It ain’t no thang. According to 24 producer Howard Gordon, Jack Bauer will indeed survive next week’s two-hour season finale (what, you expected him to die?) and return just in time to start shooting Season 8, which commences photography in less than two weeks. And that headbutting incident and pending criminal charges? Gordon doesn’t expect it to delay shooting of Season 8. Sutherland also spilled some plot points from the upcoming season to SciFiWire: “The setup for season eight is the most realistic political thing that I think we’ve ever done since we started the show. We’ve had some seriously questionable circumstances in our show, and they’ve been a lot of fun to play, but I think the setup for season eight, »

"I've felt a lot of support and I'm grateful for that," he told Entertainment Tonight at an event celebrating Fox show's finale, which airs May 19. Sutherland, 42, was charged with misdemeanor assault in N.Y.C. on May 7 after allegedly getting physical with Proenza Schouler women's wear designer Jack McCollough at a party. Cast and crew from the hit Fox show gathered at L.A's Wadsworth Theatre on Tuesday to celebrate the season seven finale, where they weighed in on co-star Sutherland. »

I have to admit, 24’s current Season 7 is not exactly the pinnacle of excellence, but it’s still the damn best action-adventure show on TV right now. 24 Goes Green

3 March 2009 4:00 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Bosses of hit U.S. series 24 have decided to launch the show as the first "carbon neutral" TV production in a bid to cut pollution.

Executives at America's Fox network have announced plans to cut down on the amount of fuel used during filming of the drama to make the programme more environmentally friendly.

Bosses have hired consultants to monitor the carbon dioxide output from the production, and are using more economical biodiesel fuel in trucks and generators.

They have also installed motion monitors in bathrooms and kitchens on-set to make the lights more efficient.

However, the show's producers have refused to compromise on special effects, and instead of cutting back on carbon dioxide-emitting car chases, they will purchase carbon off-sets from wind power plants in India.

Executive producer Howard Gordon insists the plans won't have a negative impact on the explosive plot lines of the show, which stars Kiefer Sutherland as government agent Jack Bauer.

He says, "If we've needed a car chase, we've had a car chase. Our obligation is first and foremost to the fans. If we have budget cuts and need to save money then we'll have fewer car crashes."

20th Century Fox Television chairwoman Dana Walden adds, "No one is kidding themselves that viewers want to see Jack Bauer stop in the middle of an action scene and deliver some line about the environment.

"(But we hope it will be) a more gratifying viewing experience, even if it is at a more subconscious level.” »
