Co-creator Dan Goor was always optimistic about the prospect of another season, telling TVLine as recently as April that the Andy Samberg comedy always “received a tremendous amount of support from the network, and I’m sure our pickup will be coming at any point.”

Goor was also confident that fans would probably “riot” were the show to be cancelled after its Season 4 finale (airing Tuesday, »

12 May 2017 11:45 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Brooklyn Nine-Nine” has been renewed for a fifth season at Fox, Variety has learned.

The Andy Samberg comedy, which debuted in 2013, is a workplace ensemble comedy about a talented-but-carefree police detective, a by-the-book captain and their diverse group of colleagues in Brooklyn’s 99th precinct.

Though the numbers have dipped this current season, hitting a season low of just over 1.7 million overnight viewers in its most recent airing, the police comedy is one of Fox’s longest-running comedies. The show will hit the big 100-episode milestone in its fifth season, likely making a case for the renewal.

Plus, the critically acclaimed series has awards to its name with two Golden Globes, Creative Arts Emmys and an Emmy nomination for star Andre Braughter each season.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine” hails from Universal Television and is exec produced by creators Dan Goor and Michael Schur, along with Luke Del Tredici and David Miner. Samberg stars with Terry Crews, Stephanie Beatriz »

Fox Renews 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine,' 'The Exorcist'

12 May 2017 11:45 AM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter - TV News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - TV News news »

Fox is returning to the Nine-Nine.

The network has handed out a fifth season renewal to Dan Goor and Mike Schur comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and a season two renewal to the TV adaptation of The Exorcist.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has always been on shaky ground at Fox. Yes, it's got critics in its corner and a steady audience — but that audience is also modest. And since it's the only Fox comedy produced by an outside studio (Universal Television), the financial reasons for renewing it have never been as compelling as with other modest performers like Last Man on Earth (which has already been renewed) »

Watch ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Behind-the-Scenes Video (Exclusive)

9 May 2017 9:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Fox has released a behind-the-scenes look at the first four seasons of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” the hit police comedy sitcom starring Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher.

The video features the actors and co-creators discussing the progression of the show from the pilot all the way up to the current season. Co-creator and executive producer Dan Goor explains how the tone of the show was set from the very beginning and stemmed from the great comedic chemistry between Samberg and Braugher. Braugher elaborated that the central force behind the show is the family-like quality of the characters.

“Like any family, they’re discovering their strengths and weaknesses and how strong they are when they depend upon each other,” Braugher said.

Many actors felt the show’s strength came through in its ability to meld heartfelt themes with ridiculous, slapstick humor.

The show, which premiered in 2013, follows the detectives of the fictional 99th precinct of the New York City Police »

First Look: Brooklyn Nine-Nine Takes on Racial Profiling

28 April 2017 7:14 AM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is getting serious in an upcoming episode.

On Tuesday’s installment, Terry Crews‘ character, Sergeant Terry Jeffords, is confronted by racial profiling when he’s stopped by a fellow police officer (guest star Desmond Harrington) while he’s off duty in his own neighborhood.

The incident escalates, and Jeffords seeks to file an official complaint against Officer Maldack, but Captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher) cautions him against causing a furor among the department.

“I don’t want to see your career derailed because you were besmirched for reporting on another officer,” Holt tells Jeffords in an exclusive preview of the episode. »

Five Popular TV Shows Still In Danger of Being Cancelled

17 April 2017 8:30 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

As T. S. Elliot once wrote, “April is the cruelest month.”

It’s spring, which means the weather is getting warmer, the days are getting longer, and television networks are in the midst of deciding their 2017–2018 lineups. While many shows have either been officially renewed or cancelled by this point, many more remain in limbo, or, to use the preferred jargon, “on the bubble.”

That said, here are five popular shows whose fates still hang in the balance:

New Girl

The Fox comedy hit a creative slump after a few extremely well-received seasons, and while season five and the current season six have picked up the pace, many seem to feel that the series has reached somewhat of a natural end, and that the recent season six finale felt more like a “goodbye” than a “see you later” (not that that’s ever really stopped series from being renewed in the past, mind »

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Spring Premiere: Did Gina Survive? Plus: Ep Dishes On Jake and Amy's Future, Terry's [Spoiler]

11 April 2017 5:30 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

The following contains spoilers from Tuesday’s midseason premiere of Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Proceed at your own peril.

Spoiler alert: Gina Linetti is dead.

Well, she was dead. It was for two minutes, during which time she saw an ethnically ambiguous female God, then was resuscitated, having somehow survived that bus accident just two months ago.

But the heck with trying to make sense of any of that. “Gina Linetti’s back, baby,” and the Nine-Nine has nothing to worry about now… right?

Wrong!

Just how worried should fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine be about whether Gina Linetti survived that bus accident? We posed that very question to co-creator Dan Goor ahead of Tuesday’s spring premiere (8/7c, Fox).

“On a scale from 1-10, where 10 is the highest, I would say [fans] should be at like a 7,” Goor tells TVLine. “We saw a city bus hit a human being… it’s a legitimate concern.” (Ruh-roh!)

Question: I’m already having Walking Dead withdrawal. Got anything on Season 8 yet? — Bud

Ausiello: As a matter of fact, yes. Remember in the finale, when Sasha said she wasn’t giving up on Eugene, even though he’d reverted to his most spineless self? That was “a hint to what the story is,” showrunner Scott Gimple recently told TVLine. “It certainly looked like he was still a Savior. But is that going to haunt him… change him? »

Discussing the Andy Samberg comedy’s uncertain future with TVLine, Goor says that fans are “going to riot” if the Nine-Nine doesn’t return to active duty for Season 5.

“[Fans] are going to find the presidents of Fox and they are going to deface their houses,” he says with a laugh. “No, I’m kidding. Probably shouldn’t say that… I know I would riot. I would be very upset. »

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: a must-see Us sitcom

From the people behind Parks And Recreation, here's why Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the sharpest comedies around...

With Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s much anticipated fourth season finally airing on E4, spare a thought for those who have never experienced the joys of this quick-witted, warm hearted cop comedy series. It’s hard to imagine a world without the Die Hard-loving, authority challenging Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) or his food-loving best friend Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio). Where would we be without the egotistical wisdoms of Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti), the relentless brown nosing and binder collating of Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) and the weapon-wielding human enigma that is Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz)?
