How Robert de Niro and Forest Whitaker ended up in a movie that essentially went straight to DVD and Blu-Ray is beyond me. That they.re playing second fiddle to 50 Cent is even more mystifying. No matter what kind of star power is in it, though, Freelancers lives up to (down to?) the expectations that enter one.s head when they hear .straight-to-dvd movie starring a rapper.. It is not good. At all.
Cent plays Jonas .Malo. Malonado, whose police officer father was murdered when he was a boy. Now, Malo and two of his friends (Ryan O.Nan and Malcolm Goodwin) are themselves fresh-faced members of the NYPD. The trio is taken under the wing of Joe Sarcone (De Niro), Malo.s father.s former partner, who is now the head of a drug task force. Sarcone and his associates Larue (Whitaker) and Morrison (Matt Gerald) are massively corrupt, »

The Movie Pool goes rogue for the Freelancers Blu-ray!
A rookie NYC cop (Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson) finds that his training officer is part of a band of crooked cops, whose leader (Robert DeNiro) protects the city's organized crime. Also stars Forest Whitaker and Dana Delaney.
Directed by: Jessy Terrero
Freelancers is a convoluted cop film that tries to be Training Day, but gets dragged down by multiple pointless character arcs and a mumbling performance from rapper turned actor Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. That's really too bad, because despite Jackson's lack of acting skills and a cliche-ridden script, there's actually a decent cop movie here.
Mind you, this isn't Heat or Copland or anything close to that, but Freelancers is watchable when it isn't tripping itself up. Terrero seems like a competent director, and the films certainly looks good, but the script by L. Philippe Casseus tries way »

A&E has pulled the plug on Breakout Kings after two low-rated seasons.
The show’s demise was foreshadowed earlier this week when Kings co-creator Matt Olmstead joined NBC’s new drama Chicago Fire as exec producer/showrunner.

The concept behind Breakout Kings, that convicted felons have a unique insight into the minds of other felons, isn’t a new one in any respect (see To Catch a Thief, White Collar, etc.). Instead, it seems like TV viewers can’t get enough of the concept, and so what ultimately separates the good iterations from the bad has less to do with how the story is told and more with the cast of characters brought together. Breakout Kings boasts a decent mix of old and relatively new faces between Domenick Lombardozzi (The Wire), Brooke Nevin (Call Me Fitz, The 4400) and Jimmi Simpson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) to Malcolm Goodwin and Serinda Swan. The show’s first season keeps things very straight and formulaic for the most part, occasionally giving us a wink that one bad guy or another might return in future episodes all while creating »

If you’ve seen the promos for Season 2 of A&E’s Breakout Kings (premiering Sunday at 10/9c), you’ve gotten wind of the big twist that’s coming: One of the Kings falls. Meaning, rules are gonna be broken as the ragtag team of crafty cons help the U.S. Marshal service hunt down escaped prisoners.
