Showtime has won the latest hotly contentious presidential race. The pay cable network just landed the rights to adapt “The President is Missing,” the upcoming novel from President Bill Clinton and superstar author James Patterson, into a TV series.

The book, set to be published next June, tells the story of what happens when a sitting U.S. president suddenly disappears. Clinton, who’s long been a fan of Patterson and political thrillers, brought his insider knowledge of what it’s like to hold the most powerful office in the land.

“I’m really enjoying writing this book and working with Jim, and I can’t wait to see Showtime bring the characters to life,” Clinton said in a statement.

Jim Carrey & Michel Gondry Reteam For Showtime Series ‘Kidding’

14 September 2017 10:40 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

If someone were to suggest that Jim Carrey and Michel Gondry‘s finest work to date is “Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind,” I wouldn’t necessarily argue with them. The film remains a landmark, a tender and raw look at a dissolution of a relationship, cleverly told thanks to a genius script by Charlie Kaufman. However, can Carrey and Gondry spark similar magic without the screenwriter’s talent to balance them out?

23 years after In Living Color signed off the air, Jim Carrey is finally ready to make his return to TV. Jim Carrey To Play Tormented Children’s TV Star In New Showtime Comedy From Michel Gondry

Jim Carrey is reuniting with his “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” director Michel Gondry to star in a new half-hour comedy for Showtime. “Kidding,” which has been given a 10-episode order, will represent Carrey’s first series regular role in more than two decades.

“Kidding” stars Carrey as Jeff, also known as beloved children’s TV personality Mr. Pickles. Here’s the logline: “A beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds and the parents who grew up with him – [Jeff] also anchors a multimillion dollar branding empire. But when this beloved personality’s family – wife, two sons, sister and father – begins to implode, Jeff finds no fairy tale or fable or puppet will guide him through this crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope. The result: a kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking. »

Toronto Film Review: ‘Unicorn Store’

11 September 2017 1:32 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Recent years have seen blockbusters made about pirates and wizards and zombies and superheroes, but you have to go all the way back to Ridley Scott’s “Legend” (1985), or else Rankin/Bass’ animated “The Last Unicorn” (1982), to find a proper movie made about unicorns. It’s a colossal oversight on Hollywood’s part: For all the girls (and boys) who grew up dreaming about those fabled beasts, there exists a unicorn-shaped hole in the cinematic universe today, and it’s long been my belief that the first filmmaker to come along and fill it was going to become very, very rich.

Brie Larson’s “Unicorn Store” is not that movie. Yes, it’s about unicorns, but only obliquely. Mostly, it’s about a unicorn-obsessed young art student named Kit (Larson) who needs some sort of life lesson (although what it was exactly remains maddeningly unclear at the end). In order for this pixie-dusted contemporary fable to make »
