Harriet Tubman Cast in Season 2 of Wgn America’s ‘Underground’

The second season of Wgn America’s “Underground” will introduce Harriet Tubman, and Variety has learned that the pioneer will be played by Aisha Hinds of “All The Way” and “Under the Dome.”

The Underground Railroad’s most famous conductor revered for her grit, perseverance and unrelenting will to help scores of enslaved people reach their freedom, Tubman was born a slave. After escaping, Tubman risked her life again and again in order to free her family members and lead anyone willing to journey north across hostile territory, to freedom — a task she believed is her God-given mission.

The new season of “Underground,” which will span 10 episodes, will follow an unremitting struggle for freedom within a divided America on the brink of civil war, each side vying to enact their own justice.

Paramount Pictures has debuted the first trailer and poster for the upcoming horror film, Rings, starring Matilda LutzAlex RoeJohnny GaleckiAimee TeegardenBonnie Morgan, and Vincent D'Onofrio.

Film is directed by F. Javier Gutiérre from a screenplay written by David LouckaJacob Aaron Estes, and Akiva Goldsman.

A new chapter in the beloved Ring horror franchise.  A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it.  She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before.

Just in time for Halloween, Paramount Pictures is releasing the next installment of the Ring franchise to theaters on October 28th. Today, they’ve given us the first good look at Rings with the official trailer and you can check it out right now to see the “Ring” videotape make its way into the digital age.

The first trailer and poster for Rings, the continuation of The Ring franchise, has just landed online ahead of its release this coming November.

In the film a young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it.  She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…

The film is directed by F. Javier Gutierrez from a screenplay by David Loucka, Jacob Estes and Akiva GoldsmanMatilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio are amongst the cast.

First Dark Tower Footage Will Arrive This October

Last month, filming wrapped on The Dark Tower, which means many fans have already started to wonder when the first footage may be showcased. With Sony Pictures set to release this adaptation of Stephen King's novel on February 17, 2017, the window to preview any footage is somewhat small, but today we have word on when that first look will happen. For fans in Los Angeles, you can check out footage at Entertainment Weekly's PopFest celebration.

The EW Popfest front page features a number of highlights from the two-day event, which will take place on October 29 and October 30 at The Reef in downtown Los Angeles. Among the programming highlights on the home page, it's revealed that the first footage from The Dark Tower will be shown. Akiva Goldsman Will Adapt Isaac Asimov's The Caves Of Steel

According to Variety, Fox has hired Akiva Goldsman to come onboard to write the film adaptation of Isaac Asimov's sci-fi mystery novel The Caves Of Steel. The novel was first published in 1953 and adapted by the BBC as a TV movie in 1964. 

The Caves Of Steel is set 1,000 years in the future when Earth has become overrun with people and robots are banned. A detective must team up with a robot to solve the murder of an ambassador who had been seeking to reform Earth’s policies on robots.

John Scott 3 and Jamie Vanderbilt have written the previous drafts of the script. Fox had setup the project back in 2011 with Henry Hobson directing and Simon Kinberg will produce.

The story is set a millennia in the future when Earth has become overrun with people and robots are banned. A detective must team up with a robot to solve the murder of an ambassador who had been seeking to reform Earth's policies on robots.

John Scott 3 and Jamie Vanderbilt penned previous drafts of the script. At last report Henry Hobson is set to direct and Simon Kinberg will produce.

Akiva Goldsman Writing ‘Caves of Steel’ Sci-Fi Movie for Fox (Exclusive)

Fox has hired Akiva Goldsman to adapt its sci-fi mystery “The Caves of Steel,” based on the Isaac Asimov novel, Variety has learned exclusively.

The studio set up the project in 2011 with Fox-based Simon Kinberg directing with Henry Hobson. Asimov’s story is set 1,000 years in the future when Earth has become overrun with people and robots are banned. A detective must team up with a robot to solve the murder of an ambassador who had been seeking to reform Earth’s policies on robots.

Previous drafts have been written by John Scott 3 and Jamie Vanderbilt.

“The Caves of Steel” was first published in 1953 and adapted by the BBC as a TV movie in 1964.

Dark Tower Viral App Uncovers a Hidden Surprise

Last week, Entertainment Weekly revealed a slew of new photos and details for the long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower books. With production still under way, it isn't clear when we'll get to see the first footage from this movie, but today we have word that the EW cover contains a hidden message. The number 19 has a special significance to readers of the book, so it shouldn't be too surprising that this reveal comes today, on July 19.

Entertainment Weekly reveals that there is a new app fans can download for either Apple or Android devices called The Sombra Group, which the site reveals will "come in handy" as we get closer to this adaptation's February 17, 2017 release date. Over the past few days, we've gotten a slew of updates on The Dark Tower, including new photos and plot details. With production continuing on this long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King's novel, several set photos have surfaced, which have lead to an intriguing theory that this movie isn't exactly an adaptation of the Dark Tower books, but a sequel to them. Today we have even more photos from this long awaited movie, along with confirmation that this project is in fact a sequel to the novels.

The continuing coverage of The Dark Tower adaptation in EW is rolling out a glut of interesting reveals. The first official look at Idris Elba as the cowboy knight Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as his adversary, the sinister Man In Black are terrific teasers for what’s to come. Idris Elba Vs. Jackie Earle Haley in Latest Dark Tower Set Photos

As you may well know by now, The Dark Tower is deep into production, with shooting recently shifting to New York City. We have already seen plenty of photos of Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, but today new photos have surfaced from the set, offering our first look at Jackie Earle Haley as Sayre. While we don't know exactly where within the story this scene takes place, it's clear both Sayre and The Gunslinger are locked in an intense stand-off.

The photos, which surfaced from Just Jared, feature both Roland and Sayre entrenched in a gunfight, where, at one point, Sayre even rips off the door of a car to shield himself from The Gunslinger's attack. A closer look at the photos reveal that Jackie Earle Haley has a number of dots on his face, hinting that his face could be altered with CGI in post-production, but we don't know for sure. »

Back in May, as production was under way on The Dark Tower, author Stephen King tweeted out an interesting photo, which featured an item fans of his novel series recognized as the Horn of Eld. The author had also recently teased that the movie will begin with the very first line of his book, but then the plot will shift to the middle of the story. These revelations, along with other details about the adaptation, have many fans convinced that The Dark Tower is not actually an adaptation of the novels, but a sequel to them. That theory just got a very big boost with the emergence of new photos from the set.
