He sang the roles of Scarpia in "Tosca", and Rigoletto in "Rigoletto", in what are still considered the definitive complete recordings of both these operas. Both recordings, made in the early 1950s by EMI/Angel and still in print, also starred Maria Callas and Giuseppe di Stefano.
