'Game of Thrones' Recap: Tyrion Delivers a Shocking Speech

1 hour ago | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

[Warning: spoilers ahead for Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones, “Second Sons”] The Lannisters sure know how to throw a wedding. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and Sansa's (Sophie Turner) big day included threats of rape, promises of murder and talk of impregnating the poor 14-year-old bride. This all set the stage for Tyrion to risk his life by directing one amazing zinger at Joffrey (Jack Gleeson). But first, the background. Joffrey was horrid during the wedding ceremony. He insisted on giving the bride away since she had no father to do so. (We seem to recall there’s an interesting

Study Up for Episode 7 of Game Of Thrones With Featurettes and a TV Spot

18 May 2013 11:18 AM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Only three episodes left in this year’s epic season of Game of Thrones. We actually got a bit of happy news last week amongst all the scheming and grisly goings-on, so I’m expecting heaps of bad news this week. Best of luck to Arya, Tyrion, and the Khaleesi, my personal favorites.

Game of Thrones Season Three - Episode 7 Review

14 May 2013 9:19 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Oliver Davis reviews the seventh episode of Game of Thrones Season Three....

"Go Lannisters!"

The Bear and the Maiden Fair.

Directed by Michelle MacLaren.

Written by George R.R. Martin.

I didn't have the chance to review last week's episode of Game of Thrones. I was out of the realm, across the Shivering Sea, where they have terrible WiFi. It meant a double bill for me, and although Episode 7 was very enjoyable, last week's, The Climb, was superb and up there with the best of the show's. The quasi-montage of Littlefinger's monologue, Tyrion struggling to tell Sansa about their upcoming marriage and the view from the top of The Wall...at this rate, Season Three will easily surpass last year's.

But now to The Bear and the Maiden Fair, written by Big Daddy, George R.R. Martin, himself. And I think I speak for most fans of A Song of Ice and Fire when I write. »

Game Of Thrones season 3 episode 7 review: The Bear And The Maiden Fair

Review Ron Hogan 13 May 2013 - 07:00

George R.R. Martin's script makes a great show even stronger this week. Here's Ron's review of The Bear And The Maiden Fair...

This review contains spoilers.

3.7 The Bear and the Maiden Fair

The episodes written by George R. R. Martin have traditionally been some of the best of their particular season. Since he's the man who invented the characters that inhabit this world (and the world itself for that matter), it's only natural that he seems to have the deftest touch when it comes to creating episodes and writing for the characters. In his hands, the already sharp dialogue gets that much sharper, honed and clever without being forced. His scripts tend to feel very natural, which is pretty impressive when you have slaver kings being threatened by dragons.

That is a very important skill to have when dealing with a dialogue-heavy episode, »

‘Game Of Thrones’ Recap: Jon Snow & Ygritte Face Death At The Wall

5 May 2013 10:38 PM, PDT | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

Plus, King Joffrey plays target practice with an unusual partner — and wins.

After finally having weird cave sex last week, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Ygritte climbed the next wall of their relationship on the May 5 episode of Game Of Thrones. Only their new ‘wall’ wasn’t metaphorical. It was very much the literal Wall of Westeros, and they nearly died trying to climb over.

There was a lot of action on the other side of the Wall this week — beginning with Ygritte threatening to wear Jon’s peeper around her neck if he ever betrays her — and it really helped me to understand Jon and Ygritte as a couple. Her thinly-veiled threat, his valiant rescue, that big kiss atop the Wall… I’m starting to really root for these two.

Way to wipe the smirk off Cersei’s face, Tywin. The “Inside the Episode” featurette takes a look at Jamie and at Arya, and the TV spot has me impatient for the new episode. Enjoy!

Game of Thrones 3.4 Review, Now His Watch Has Ended

22 April 2013 12:07 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

“The board is set. The pieces of moving.”

I thought it would be fitting to begin this review with a memorable quote from Gandalf the White, as after a long, but no less exciting, thee episodes, this week’s episode Now His Watch Has Ended lights the fuses for the rest of what is expected to be an explosive rest of the season. Major plot lines are ignited into action and conspiracies, betrayals and new found friendships makes this the best of the series – so far. As always, I will try my best to avoid any major spoilers, but be warned that there may be some later on.

Now after last week’s shocking end, you may or may not feel some sympathy for the maimed Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). But despite which side of the line you stood on last week, you would have to »

New Game Of Thrones Characters Featurette and More to Help Prep for the New Episode

13 April 2013 10:00 AM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

“We’re still casting more than we’re killing,” says Game of Thrones co-showrunner D.B. Weiss, and we have the featurette that makes a good case. It’s a wee bit spoilery, if you’re sensitive to such things, as it includes some storylines and characters we haven’t yet seen, but I find it very helpful, as one of those who hasn’t read the books.

Before we get to that featurette, however, we have a Recap and an Inside the Episode featurette for last week’s show, plus a TV spot in advance of the upcoming episode. Enjoy:

Game of Thrones: Season 3, Episode 2 Deconstructed

10 April 2013 11:14 PM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Welcome to “It Is Known – Season 3 Deconstructed”! Every Tuesday, you will find my extensive review of the week’s episode of Game of Thrones

I will explore the narrative that the show weaves. And what a narrative indeed! The story is complex, the characters are manifold, the twists and turns unexpected. I will deconstruct the episodes piece by piece, moving from character to character. This is an unusual approach, I admit, and a bit cumbersome at times, but the show basically does the same. The episodes are just parts of one, epic story, and as parts we have to examine them if we hope to get everything that happens.

There will be no spoilers for future events, but I will reference the books from time to time, so if you haven’t read them, you might want to be careful around these reviews, although I’ll try to keep the references cryptic. »

Game of Thrones 3.2, “Dark Wings Dark Words” Review

9 April 2013 1:50 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

After a slow, but no less welcoming, start to the new season, Dark Wings Dark Words introduces us to new characters and new plotlines, laying the groundwork for the foreseeable future – and as always, things don’t look like they’ll end well in Westeros. For those who haven’t had a chance to catch up with Episode 2, for your benefit I shall keep the details to a minimum, though be warned, there will be some minor spoilers.

Dark Wings Dark Words takes a little more time in reintroducing the characters that we missed off the premiere list. The likes of Brandon, Arya, Jaime and Brienne all make their debut appearance for the new series and each of them being set off of their next journey – to where, we do not know. To be honest there is little depth to their stories, at the moment. The purpose of this episode »

Game of Thrones Season Three - Episode 2 Review

Oliver Davis reviews the second episode of Game of Thrones Season Three....

Dark Wings, Dark Words.

Directed by Daniel Minahan.

Written by Vanessa Taylor.

Bran

This week's Game of Thrones opened with Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright). He's hit puberty since season two, and bears all the typical signs. His voice is deeper, his features a tad more pronounced, he can walk...wait, what?!

It's a dream, much like the ones he had last series. Those were exclusively through his pet direwolf, Summer. This time it's paralysed-from-the-waist-down Bran walking through the forest. His older brothers give him advice on shooting a raven. Ned's voice is heard rustling the leaves. A loophole that could see Sean Bean return, Ghost Dad-style.

Both are echoes of an earlier, happier time. Back in Winterfell, before the Starks started getting split up and beheaded. Now that place has been raised to the ground by Lord Bolton's »

I have not read the novels, therefore no spoilers from the books will appear here. Kindly keep them out of the comments section.

Is there are doubt at this juncture that women are the true rulers of Westeros, at the very least in commanding our attention, if not outright color of law? All through “Dark Wings, Dark Words” (a deeply foreboding title for an episode in which much is discussed but not a whole lot actually happens), Game of Thrones spends most of its time catching us up with the female denizens of the Seven Kingdoms, often making their male counterparts come across a little on the dull or at least undistinguished side in the process.

"Game of Thrones" Recap: Release the Hounds

8 April 2013 7:41 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Big dogs of both human and fanged varieties played big parts in this week's episode. Let's jump right in!

We start the episode running through the woods at ground level - either I'm rewatching Evil Dead, or we're in one of Bran's kooky dreams again.

Sure enough, Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) - who can walk in his dreams, like the kid from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors - sees the Third Eye Blind Raven, and he tries to shoot it with Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) help. He misses. He hears Ned's voice, then some bratty kid who looks like a Muppet Baby version of Tate from American Horror Story shows up to tell him that he can't kill the raven because the raven is Him. Is this like that "one set of footprints" thing?

Hey - speaking of Brandon Stark, it's time to catch up on »

‘Game Of Thrones’ Recap: Margaery Exploits Joffrey’s Weakness

7 April 2013 7:12 PM, PDT | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

Am I the only one more in love with Margaery every week? This girl knows how to play the ‘Game!’

The April 7 episode of Game of Thrones was all about big reveals: Not only did we finally learn about Bran’s mysterious power, but we also discovered that Margaery (Natalie Dormer) isn’t quite the innocent, politically naïve girl she claims to be. In fact, I’d say she’s the first person capable of taming the insufferable beast known as Joffrey (Jack Gleeson)!

Still skeptical of Margaery’s motives, Cersei (Lena Headey) asked Joffrey whether or not he felt she was a “good fit” to be queen. He immediately shot down her suspicions, reminding his mother that he’s the king and she shouldn’t question him. It looks like Cersei won’t be pushing Margery around the same way she did Sansa (Sophie Turner).

Meanwhile, Margaery’s grandmother »

He’s back: In Sunday’s Game of Thrones, the hooded figure in the third-season previews was revealed to be exactly the man that many of you suspected: Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), the Stark family ward who last season tried to honor his cold-hearted biological father by betraying the family who raised him. Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth unleashed a storm of swords in the climax of Sunday night’s Game of Thrones; the two knights with very different ethics finally having their big clash on a scenic bridge.

Captive Jaime was being led to King’s Landing by Brienne when his stream of insults and attempts to annoy her finally afforded him a chance to escape. Unlike Jaime’s showdown with Ned Stark in season one, however, this was a unique kind of battle.
