Plenty of work from the mind of Stan Lee is already on the big screen in the form of comic book films like X-Men: First Class, Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk and forthcoming blockbusters like The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man. However, one of the comic book creators project from overseas will be the next project to get the feature film treatment as Deadline reports Dan Gilroy, who worked on the script for Real Steel and wrote The Bourne Legacy for his brother, director Tony Gilroy, will write the The Annihilator about a Chinese superhero for Magic Storm Entertainment. Like many other comic properties from Lee, the film follows a young Chinese man given a second chance as an international superhero who returns home to mete out justice. Stan Lee is on a role! Lionsgate has acquired a new and original superhero property from Stan Lee and his Pow! Entertainment. Smallville's Alfred Gough and Miles Millar will write, direct and produce the movie through their Millar/Gough Ink production company. Just yesterday Lee locked down Dan Gilroy (Real Steel) to adapt an original treatment of his called The Annihilator.
Of course no details have been revealed for the project yet, but it's being described as a "multigenerational superhero movie that spans several decades." Now that sounds like it could be interesting, I would really love to learn more about it! This could be a cool movie.
According to Variety, "The comicbook vet approached Gough and Millar with the superhero concept after becoming a fan of Smallville and collaborating with the two scribes on Spider-Man 2." The two writers are currently in the middle of producing the new Sylvester Stallone »

Dan Gilroy (Real Steel) has reached a deal with Magic Storm Entertainment to write The Annihilator (working title), a movie based on the Chinese comic superhero created by Stan Lee. According to Deadline, the story follows "a young man who becomes a superhero who returns to his homeland to mete out justice." The logline is pretty nonspecific, but Lee promises this is "the most incredibly original and unique superhero I’ve created in a long time." The Annihilator is the first feature film set up at Lee's Pow! Entertainment. Gilroy's most recent job was working with his older brother Tony Gilroy on the script for The Bourne Legacy that Tony is also directing. The franchise reboot hits theaters on August 3, 2012. Earlier this year Magic Storm Entertainment was announced and a finance company partially launched by legendary Marvel idea man Stan Lee, for the sole purpose of creating new superhero properties for Asian audiences. Well, Variety is reporting that Magic Storm has just announced its first project, called "The Annihilator," and they've hired screenwriter Dan Gilroy, who is at least somewhat to blame for "Real Steel," to write the screenplay. Dan is part of the impossibly creative Gilroy clan that includes older brother Tony Gilroy (writer/director director of the upcoming "Bourne Legacy") and twin brother John Gilroy (one of Hollywood's hottest editors -"Warrior," "Salt"). Before unloading "Real Steel" on us, he had a brush with superhero stardom, having written the "Superman Lives" screenplay that Tim Burton was going to direct with Nic Cage as the Man of Steel. This new project is, according to »

Stan Lee's Chinese heritage superhero The Annihilator is moving into production and Magic Storm Entertainment has hired Real Steel and Bourne Legacy screenwriter Dan Gilroy to write the script for their first feature film.
The film is based on an original idea from Stan Lee's Pow! Entertainment, and "the story chronicles a young man who is given a second chance as an international superhero and returns home to mete out justice." The image above basically looks like a Chinese Wolverine type character.
Stan Lee is enthusiastic as ever about the project and says,
Words can't express how excited I am about this project. It's based on the most incredibly original and unique superhero I've created in a long time. Best of all, we're excited to be working with a writer as talented as Dan Gilroy to helm the script. I expect the startling saga of our hero, The Annihilator, »

Magic Storm Entertainment has acquired the rights to a new superhero movie titled The Annihilator, based around an idea conceived by none-other than Stan “The Man” Lee. The titular character is one of the (almost) 90-year-old comic book legend’s most recent “unorthodox” creations, alongside the sci-fi manga/anime Heroman and the still-in-development Governator comic book/cartoon series.
The company’s CEO has announced that screenwriter Dan Gilroy is officially onboard for the project and will work from Lee’s original Pow! Entertainment treatment, while penning the Annihilator’s big-screen debut.
The Annihilator‘s namesake is a man of Chinese heritage who “is given a second chance as an international superhero and returns home to mete out justice.” Presumably, that means the character will be an ordinary person who gains extraordinary abilities (like many other Lee-created superheroes) and not someone who is resurrected from the dead with unnatural powers (a »

Former Marvel Comics president and chairman Stan Lee is still in the business of inventing superheroes - and now his latest creation is heading to the big screen.
Lee, 88, co-created such classic characters as Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, X-Men and the Fantastic Four.
This summer he helped launch film finance company Magic Storm Entertainment - a partnership of Lee's Pow! Entertainment, Hong Kong-based Ricco Capital Holdings and Fidelis Entertainment - to bring his latest characters to life, especially for Asian audiences.
Variety's Showblitz reports that Magic Storm has hired Dan Gilroy, one of the writers on Hugh Jackman's robot boxing movie Real Steel, to adapt The Annihilator into a movie.
The character is described as "a young Chinese man given a second chance as an international superhero who returns home to mete out justice."

Stan Lee’s Pow! Entertainment wants to do some annihilatin’ … with The Annihilator! Who is The Annihilator? He’s a new superhero created by Stan “The Man” Lee, with an eye towards turning it into a movie. To help with that, Lee and his Hong Kong-based partners have hired “Real Steel” writer Dan Gilroy to adapt the character. So who is this guy that’ll save us? The hero of The Annihilator is a “young Chinese man given a second chance as an international superhero who returns home to mete out justice.” Well, that’s novel. I don’t think we’ve ever seen a Chinese superhero on the big screen before. You know, at least not one that wasn’t made in China or Hong Kong. Some Googling led me to these pieces of concept art for an “Annihilator” character, which I take it is Lee’s character, since »

Chicago – Try selling a friend on paying to see a movie with you about machine-operated boxing where humans control robots for money.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Just call your friend on his Motorola DynaTAC retro brickphone and say: “Hey, Billy! Remember all those swell nights we had as kids when I smoked you every time in Rock’em Sock’em Robots with our two dueling robot boxers mechanically manipulated by us? There’s a new movie out that pays homage to all those times you wasted trying to decapitate my robot’s head.”
Read Adam Fendelman’s full review of “Real Steel”.
From that vapid premise alone, you’d likely have better luck snagging a date to a film about vaginal dentata.
But fret not, friend: there’s hope yet for Disney’s sci-fi sports movie “Real Steel,” which is a sovereign testament to the power of the absurd. What if instead you »

Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) is drunk, broke, and - to top that off - a complete jerk.
Kenton is a run-down ex-boxer now trying (and failing) to make some money in futuristic robotic boxing tournaments. He gambles to make some money at a local rodeo by using his battered robot Ambush to fight a bull (PETA frowns at this). The battle does not go very well, turning Ambush into dismembered junk and causing Kenton to lose a very expensive bet.
It's a funny thing to note that everyone in the opening scene of Real Steel are jerks. Kenton's a big jerk - that's without a doubt. The rodeo audience are also all jerks and the rodeo ringleader is big masterful jerk named Ricky (Kevin Durand). Even the »
