Announcer for CBS Radio's "Dr. Christian" (1937, 1942-1954).

Announcer for the syndicated radio show "The Adventures of Frank Race" (1949-1952).

He was also the unseen announcer for Red Skelton on his television program and for the religious television program of Garner Ted Armstrong called "The World Tomorrow".

He is a graduate of Washington State University. An announcing award is given each year in his name. He is part of a long and proud history of WSU graduates that include Edward R. Murrow and Keith Jackson.

During May 2006, he was honored by film industry representatives and fans for his long career as a prolific voice talent.

Narrated the introduction to Ronald Reagan's 1964 TV speech "A time for choosing", aka "The Speech", in support of Republican nominee Barry Goldwater. This speech ultimately resulted in Reagan's own election to the Presidency in 1980.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Gilmore of 72 years of Irvine, California. Prior to their marriage in 1938, they were in a relationship for eight years and were high school sweethearts. They have two daughters, Marilyn Gilmore of Irvine, California and Barbara Gilmore McCoy of Rockford, Illinois; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In the 1930s, he was a staff announcer at the radio KFWB in Hollywood. He later went to KNX which was owned by CBS.

He attended Washington State University where he worked at the campus radio station. He later worked at a commercial station in Seattle, Washington before moving to Los Angeles, California in the 1930s/.

His parents migrated west from Massachusetts before his birth in 1912.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
