'The Originals' recap: Three men and a baby

15 April 2014 7:17 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Welcome back to New Orleans, everybody! I don’t know about you all, but I have missed this place, bloodshed and all. I even missed Thierry’s hats. Ok, I especially missed Thierry’s hats, but that’s not important. What is important is the theme of this week’s episode, which was all about picking a side in the war that’s about to come to a head. And nobody — I mean nobody — is messing around. Let’s dig in, shall we?

We kicked things off with one of my favorite sights, and one that will never get old: »

TheBacklot Interview: Steven Krueger

15 April 2014 8:12 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

For regular TV viewers, one of the most gratifying things is that we’re at a time when a gay character’s story is no longer predominantly focused on their sexuality. The coming out story is still out there (and still necessary for those who have yet to step out of the closet) but when a show on the young-demographic network like The CW brings in a gay character and the story isn’t focused on his being gay, progress has been made.

Last year on the hit CW series, The Originals, we were introduced to the character of Josh, who was immediately open about being gay and was dealing with a much bigger piece of drama – he’d just been turned into a vampire by the villainous – but oh-so-sexy – vampire/werewolf hybrid, Klaus (played by Joseph Morgan) and had to learn how to survive.

We have another week to wait until the return of "The Originals," and with the upcoming episode looking to be a special one, we went looking for the scoop… straight from the werewolf’s mouth!

Nathan Parsons, who plays Jackson, told us what we can expect to see in the April 15th Episode 1.18, "The Big Uneasy," and as the season plays out, including a bit more on his character's back story, his dealings with Klaus, the obligatory Jackson-Hayley-Elijah triangle, if he'd ever go hybrid, keeping his humanity, and more.

Dread Central: Hi, Nathan. I want to know just a little back story maybe for our fans who have not yet watched "The Originals." It's a spinoff from "The Vampire Diaries," right? Can you tell us about your character, Jackson?

Interview: 'The Originals' Daniel Gillies talks Hayley, Klaus and war

2 April 2014 4:39 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Just like his character Elijah (previously of "The Vampire Diaries" and currently of "The Originals," both on The CW), Daniel Gillies is elegant, restrained and just a little mysterious. When I spoke to him at PaleyFest, I was curious to get his take on whether Elijah would ever take a chance on Hayley. Instead, we somehow ended up talking about the motivations he believes drive Elijah -- not that he was going to reveal them. That's so Elijah, isn't it? He also wanted to be clear that Elijah isn't a badass -- let's just say he's not going to shy away from the coming war brewing in New Orleans. One thing we can't dispute is that Elijah will always be Team Klaus. Unless he's not. After all, Gillies isn't revealing what the motivations of this Original vampire might be, so anything is possible. Do you watch "The Originals"? Which do »

‘Vampire Diaries’ and ‘The Originals’ Casts Talk Death and Dating at PaleyFest

On March 22, the casts and producers of the CW drama “The Vampire Diaries” and its spinoff “The Originals” hosted back-to-back PaleyFest panels at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to talk about their craft for killing, kiss scenes and conniving plans — the second of which being by far the most interesting to fans, who treated the event like a modern-day Beatles concert. Amidst the screams from the audience, those on stage gave some helpful insight into both shows:

The Originals” was going to be set in Chicago instead of New Orleans.

Julie Plec, who exec produces both shows, said the original “Originals” plan was to go back to Chicago, where there had already been some story with Claire Holt’s original vampire sister Rebekah from her time on “Vampire Diaries,” but that idea was scrapped when they realized they wanted to film in Atlanta and the two cities don’t look alike. »
