‘The Originals’ Blu-ray – First Season Excelled in Paternal Relationships

11 hours ago | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

Whenever a spinoff is announced, fans wonder if the new show will simply reuse the plot, theme and character dynamics of the core series. Successful spinoffs like The Jeffersons and Frasier were nothing like their forefathers All in the Family and Cheers respectively. Others like Sex in the City’s spinoff The Carrie Diaries, which targeted a totally different audience and serve as a prequel, were doomed from day one.

So when the CW announced that it would spin off The Originals from The Vampire Diaries, there was some apprehension. After too many repetitive shocks, The Vampire Diaries was already starting to lose its edge, an edge that was due in large part to the original family. The show stopped being about character dynamics and more about who would die next and then come back to life through some miracle lore. Then, the whole Stelena vs. Delena back-and-forth dynamic started to wear numb. »

The Originals: Sounds Like Hayley Will Be Getting Closer to Klaus Than Elijah

30 July 2014 9:00 AM, PDT | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Those looking forward to The Originals season two are probably psyched about all the promised action, though some of us are more excited about the development of Hayley and Elijah's burgeoning relationship. We chatted with star Daniel Gillies, who gave us hope for their romance, but when we chatted with Phoebe Tonkin and a few reporters, she actually told us that it's Klaus that Hayley will be looking to. Find out why - and how newly hybrid Hayley will be dealing in season two - from our interview with Tonkin! How's Hayley's mental state going to be now that she's given up her baby and is a new hybrid? Phoebe Tonkin: We start the second season three months after the finale. It's still fresh, but it's not as fresh as it was before. We're just learning how the three characters, Klaus, Elijah, and Hayley, are dealing with that grief. »

Comic-Con: Julie Plec Talks The Originals, What’s Coming in Season 2, New Characters, the Possiblity of a Caroline Crossover, and More

29 July 2014 10:54 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Spin-offs are a tough gig, but with The Originals the CW has an undeniable success on their hands. Building on the mythology established in The Vampire Diaries, creator Julie Plec followed original vampires Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt) to New Orleans where they forged new alliances, battled old foes, and of course, had it out with each other on the regular. In anticipation of the second season, the cast and crew were on hand at Comic-Con 2014, but before their panel I sat down for a roundtable interview with executive producer/showrunner Julie Plec. She talked about some new characters heating things up in season two, if we can ever expect to see Caroline, what is going to be the biggest threat to the original family, Klaus's biological father, and more. Check out what she had to say about The Originals season 2 after the jump. Question: »

The Originals Spoilers: There's a Time Jump and Other Season 2 Surprises

29 July 2014 9:00 AM, PDT | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

After the shocking and tumultuous events of The Originals' first season finale, we've been wondering (make that dying to know) what's next. At this year's Comic-Con, the cast opened up in interviews and during the panel about all the burning questions you had about season two (like whether we'll see Rebekah and the baby again). Plus, we got lots of tidbits of info you weren't expecting, like a time jump and how the show's breakout character got saved from the chopping block. Find out everything you need to know here! There will be a time jump. Season two won't pick up immediately after the events in the season one finale. Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley) told us that season two will pick up about three months later, and Hayley, Elijah, and Klaus will be recovering from pretending that Klaus and Hayley's baby, Hope, had died. During the Comic-Con panel, Daniel Gillies, »

Daniel Gillies Says "Wonderful and Romantic Things" Are Coming For Hayley and Elijah

28 July 2014 11:44 AM, PDT | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Are you pumped for The Originals season two yet? The cast gave us lots of spoilers at Comic-Con, and we also had a chance to chat with the stars individually. While Joseph Morgan told us about Klaus's revenge, when we talked to Daniel Gillies, who plays Elijah, we needed to know about more than retribution. Yes, we needed to know about Elijah and Hayley. Gillies gave us concrete hope that that romance is alive amid all the darkness, and he has rather fascinating insights on why Elijah is still so loyal to Klaus. How is the group of Elijah and the group dealing with the aftermath of season one at the beginning of season two? Daniel Gillies: In the wake of that kind of apocalypse, it's an awkward new beginning. There's a necessary sort of distance that needs to be observed between Elijah and Klaus and Hayley, which unfortunately »

In the wake of its game-changing finale, what’s the forecast for Season 2 of The Originals?

Series stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies and Phoebe Tonkin amusingly struggled to answer that question during an “interrogation” by Andy Swift in TVLine’s San Diego Comic-Con video suite.

Thankfully, executive producer Julie Plec was there to lend a hand — along with cast members Charles Michael Davis, Leah Pipes and Danielle Campbell.

'The Originals' team seasons Season 2 at Comic-Con: Live-Blog

25 July 2014 4:17 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

First, my confession: I'm a good chunk of episodes behind on the first season of The CW's "The Originals." I fell behind on both of my CW vampire dramas this past season, but I was able to catch up on "The Vampire Diaries" in recent weeks. I'll catch up on "The Originals" before the second season premieres, but I'm not there yet. Hopefully I won't embarrass myself with this live-blog, but if I say anything stupid, you'll know why. Apologies. That was an intense two hours in Hall H. I live-blogged the "Walking Dead" panel, which included a premiere date. And I live-blogged the "Game of Thrones" panel, which included a bunch of casting for Season 5. Now it's time for an afternoon of CW live-blogs. Up first, The CW's Hour With Phoebe Tonkin panel, which has been mislabeled as "The Originals" in your Comic-Con program and features a lot of »
