Lff 2017: ‘The Lovers’ Review: Dir. Azazel Jacobs (2017)

12 October 2017 11:37 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

The Lovers review: The romantic comedy movie gets flipped on its head in this new, very original feature from Azazel Jacobs.

The Lovers review by Paul Heath.

“They hate each other. Watch them carefully, and if you see me acting like either of them, punch me in the face.” These are the words of young student Joel (Tyler Ross), speaking to his girlfriend Erin (Jessica Sula) about his parents Michael (Tracy Letts) and his wife Mary (Debra Winger), as they board a train to visit home for a few days. That one statement perfectly sums up the relationship of the married couple, and provides the basis for this film, a very witty, often funny insight into the later days of a lifelong relationship – a romantic comedy flipped on its head with fantastic lead performances and very clever screenplay.

‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’ DVD Review

Stars: Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou | Written by Guy Ritchie, Joby Harold, Lionel Wigram | Directed by Guy Ritchie

The first movie I saw directed by Guy Ritchie was Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. When I started watching King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, little did I know that I’d find myself comparing the gangster feel of the two. In many ways this represents how confusing a movie it can be, especially when it is about a character like King Arthur

Robbed of his birth right as King, Arthur (Charlie Hunnam) grows up the hard way, fighting for what he can and protecting those around him. Forced to pull a sword out of a stone, he soon begins the journey to becoming the true king with the help of a Mage (Astrid Berges-Frisbey). Aidan Gillen to play comedian Dave Allen in new biopic

21 September 2017 8:15 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The BBC has announced that Game of Thrones alum Aidan Gillen is set to portray the controversial Irish comedian Dave Allen in an upcoming one-off drama set to air on BBC Two.

Entitled Dave Allen at Peace, the one-hour drama is being directed by Andy De Emmony (Fantabulosa!) from a script by Stephen Russell (We’re Doomed: The Dad’s Army Story) and will be framed around Gillen’s Allen perched on a stool as he looks back over his life and his 40-year career.

As per Deadline, it will ” explore how his comedy genius was shaped by the tragic loss of his father, his brother — and his finger — and how he survived decades of the Roman Catholic Church’s wrath, death threats from the Ira and a ban by Irish and Australian TV.”
