Charlie Hunnam talks up the tone of King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

19 hours ago | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

In just a couple of weeks, Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword finally arrives in cinemas. Charlie Hunnam leads the cast of the Warner Bros. film, which debuts on May 19th (U.K.), and with a filmmaker like Ritchie at the helm, it’s easy to guess what kind of tone the film will end up having – a light-hearted though entertaining, fast-edited piece full of set-pieces and witty dialogue. Well, that seems to be the case with the latest version of the King Arthur legend, but it wasn’t always so. Hunnam spoke to Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview where he spoke of the tone.

“It was challenging to begin with because there was an uncertainty about the tone. Guy’s [initial] intention was to make something that was outside of his wheel house, and make a more classic, straightforward, and somewhat somber film – which is obviously »

Tribeca Film Review: ‘The Lovers’

23 April 2017 7:23 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

It’s been painful in recent years to see Todd Solondz, the once-inspired director of “Welcome to the Dollhouse” and “Happiness,” making his characters so lowly and pathetic they no longer seem real. If Solondz had kept his empathy for life’s everyday losers but put aside his compulsion to punish them for it, he might have made a comedy of barbed humanity like Azazel Jacobs’ “The Lovers.”

It stars Debra Winger and Tracy Letts as Mary and Michael, a couple in their late 50s who have entered the dead-zone phase of marriage. Their passion has left the building, but more than that, they’ve stopped pretending they have anything to say to each other. Their relationship is a glumly polite series of going-through-the-motions rituals (even when they sit in front of the TV having a glass of red wine, they’re drinking alone…together), yet the movie observes their »

While speaking with EW, Hunnam also discussed the tone of the film: “It was challenging to begin with because there was an uncertainty about the tone… Guy’s [initial] intention was to make something that was outside of his wheelhouse, and make a more classic, straightforward, and somewhat somber film — which is obviously not what we ended up with. Arthur and his pals, the tone of those interactions is very much the way Guy is. We were just doing our best Guy Ritchie impersonations.”

Tracy Letts and Debra Winger Are Brilliant As a Couple Who Rediscover Passion In Azazel Jacobs’ ‘The Lovers’ — Tribeca Review

22 April 2017 7:00 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The concept of “The Lovers” is almost too cute: Middle-aged married couple Michael (Tracy Letts) and Mary (Debra Winger) lost interest in each other long ago, and have both launched extramarital affairs, promising their paramours that a divorce is on the horizon. In the midst of planning breakups, however, Michael and Marry suddenly rediscover the passion of their marriage, delay their secret plans to split, and the cheating dynamic twists around. The very notion of faithfulness is turned on its ear.

It’s enough to fuel a lightly satisfying studio romcom, and it already has — Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” — but “The Lovers” writer-director Azazel Jacobs has a more delicate approach. The movie deals less with awkwardness of this comedic scenario than the emotions it creates for its central duo, and the psychological struggle when words can only go so far.

If it was made 70 years ago, “The Lovers” would »

New character posters arrive for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

11 April 2017 3:49 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Scott Davis

As the sun begins to shine outside, many film fans are looking forward to settling down in dark cinemas to enjoy the biggest and loudest films of the summer. In amongst the sequels, comic-books and car chases are a few interesting blockbusters including Guy Ritchie’s latest, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword – and some new character posters have been unveiled in lieu of its release.

Similarly to how the filmmaker re-energised Sherlock Holmes with a kinetic approach with lots of action, the new King Arthur film is Ritchie’s attempt to give new life to the legendary story with magic, mystery, action and huge elephants. Whether it will work in the same way remains to be seen but what’s for certain from the first few trailers is that this is unlike anything else this summer season.

Myth Becomes Legend In New Character Poster For King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

7 April 2017 5:31 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Not only is Charlie Hunnam’s would-be leader the core character of Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword, but he’s also been described as a “little bit of a motherfucker,” which ought to dovetail quite nicely with the director’s modus operandi.

Whether it’s Brad Pitt boxing to Oasis classic “Fucking in the Bushes” at the tail-end of Snatch or Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes solving crimes at the eleventh hour, Ritchie has developed a knack for characters that are, for want of a better phrase, a little rough around the edges. But Hunnam’s hero in the making isn’t the only iconic figure due to appear in Legend of the Sword, as there’s also Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey as Guinevere. Those familiar with the King Arthur lore will know that Guinevere is a key figure in the kingdom of Camelot, and goes on »

The final trailer for Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur brings magic and enormous elephants

3 April 2017 2:29 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Jon Lyus

What you need on a Monday morning is a new trailer for King Arthur. We’re serious. There’s nothing quite like a roaring ascension to pull the sword out of the your stone in the early morning. If Guy Ritchie made alarm clocks instead of films it would involve Jude Law turning up at your house to scream through your letterbox. This morning he’d be screaming the words New Trailaaahhhh.

Which is a roundabout way of saying there’s a new look at the latest big screen version of King Arthur. Ritchie’s take on Sherlock Holmes was a fun redressing of the Victorian detective with a playful use of kinetic camerawork, King Arthur looks no different. Looking closer at this trailer there’s all sorts of magic, mystical elements and massive elephants that seem to comprise every third film released in cinemas at the moment. »

A Final Trailer for Guy Ritchie's 'King Arthur' Starring Charlie Hunnam

1 April 2017 1:06 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"I know your story... What kind of man would you have become...?" Warner Bros has revealed one final trailer for Guy Ritchie's new take on King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, which opens in theaters in just over a month. Is anyone excited to see this movie? I feel like it's going to be forgotten so quickly. But maybe this footage will change your mind? Or maybe not. Charlie Hunnam stars as the new King Arthur with a cast including Jude Law, Annabelle Wallis, Katie McGrath, Eric Bana, Djimon Hounsou, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Tom Wu, as well as Aidan Gillen. Guy Ritchie's signature style (and action) seems to be the biggest selling point of this, but maybe there's something to the story, too. The elephants revealed in this are pretty crazy, reminds me of Lord of the Rings, which is probably the point. Will you be seeing this? Here's »
