Often does sign language in his interviews. This is because his parents are both deaf, and he signs to them.
When he first began teaming with Ricky Morton, they needed a tag team name. They were going to call themselves the Ricky and Robert Express, but since they both liked Rock n' Roll, they decided on Rock 'n Roll Express.
In 1990, he injured his knee and was out for at least a year. Ricky Morton began teaming with Tommy Rich. When Gibson came back he had a feud with Morton, and the two fought at the Great American Bash '92. It wasn't until late 1993 that the two began teaming again as the Rock 'n Roll Express.
