‘Luke Cage 1×03: Who’s Gonna Take the Weight?’ Review

5 October 2016 9:16 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

“Bring da motherfuckin’ ruckus.”

This show has a fucking soundtrack. Sixteen Marvel movies hit theaters every year and I’d be shocked if you could find someone on the street who remembered a single bar of original music used in any of them. Three episodes into Luke Cage and not only have we heard Charles Bradley, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Nirvana, Isaac Hayes, Nas, and Ghostface Killah deployed with restraint and familiarity, but the show’s original score is genuinely memorable as well, a collection of noir-ish and Blaxploitation-era tracks that give real life to the city and its goings-on. And that’s before we even get to the colossal set piece at the center of “Who’s Gonna Take the Weight?”

In an extended sequence set to the Wu-Tang Clan’s “Bring Da Ruckus”, Luke storms the fortified Crispus Attucks Building by himself. It’s the stuff of pulp legend, »

'Luke Cage': Inside Marvel's Hip-Hop Ballad of a Bulletproof Black Man

3 October 2016 9:00 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

"We called it 'smack fu,'" Mike Colter says, before breaking into a wide grin. The smile on the face of the Luke Cage star is startling enough, given that the superhero at the center of the latest Marvel/Netflix collaboration spends most of the show's 13 episodes with a somber look on his face since, carrying the world on your ballistics-impervious broad shoulders is serious work. Listening to him discuss his character's brute-strength combat style while nimbly digging through a bowl of sugar cubes for his coffee only adds to the oddness. »

On Friday, the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals gave Jack Urbont, composer of the "Iron Man Theme" on the 1960s television show The Marvel Super Heroes, another shot in a copyright dispute with Sony Music over sampling by rapper Ghostface Killer. The decision not only has something of interest for fans of Marvel comics and Wu Tang Clan, but also for those dealing with the complexity of ownership in entertainment. Urbont, whose later musical work includes That 70's Show, Oprah, 20/20 and The View, was asked by Marvel's Stan Lee in the 1960s to create music for the television show, and after reviewing comic books

Either Pharma Bro Martin Shkreli Is Actually Trying to Threaten Ghostface Killah, or April Fool’s Day Is Here Really Early This Year

28 January 2016 11:52 PM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

It appears that human social experiment Martin Shkreli, excessively proud owner of Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, has tried to threaten and demand an apology from Ghostface Killah. The pair's so-called beef stems from recent interviews in which the Wu-Tang rapper mocked Shkreli and called him out for price-gouging and album-bogarting. "It's just one of these things, that for whatever reason you think it's okay to beef with me, but that's a big mistake," Shkreli and friends say in the above video, before fishing for a pen pal. "If you ever say some dumb shit again, this album, this Shaolin, I'm gonna erase all your shit from this album. I'm gonna erase you from the record books of rap. You're my son. You have to listen to me. I butter your bread, you understand me? Without me, you're nothing." The new dad also re-explained the situation to TMZ, in »

It must be a lonely world if you are Martin Shkreli.   The bad boy pharmaceutical CEO, who last year was nicknamed the most hated man in America for massively hiking the price of a vital drug for HIV patients, is the sole owner of the Wu-Tang Clan’s “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.”  Why is this significant?  Well, after buying the album for a reported $2 million after the album was stored in a vault in Morocco, Wu-Tang member Ghostface Killah has not been shy in expressing his distaste for the album’s new owner. Ghostface Killah Has His Own Brand of Weed Called Wu Goo, Because It’s 2016 and This Is America

18 January 2016 3:36 PM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Wu-Tang Clan co-founder Ghostface Killah is releasing his own brand of concentrated marijuana called Wu Goo, because why the hell not? Once you get used to the fact that it's called "goo," you can try all of the flavors (after you get a card from a doctor in a mini mall); vanilla mango, strawberry, and pineapple coconut are apparently "for the ladies." To promote his new product, Ghostface released a new song and music video called "Wu Goo" (odd choice). The video opens with a fake infomercial in which Ghostface and an Hsn-style host discuss the product. She asks, "If I'm running errands one afternoon and find myself in a bit of a lull ... " and Ghostface promises, "We've got flavors for that!" Next up probably: Wu Choo — Cheetos for after you've smoked all your Wu Goo! »
