2015 Pilot First Impressions: Fox’s Lucifer

28 August 2015 8:47 AM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

To clarify, this article and the ones similar to it are not reviews of this fall/midseason’s pilots (because pilots can change a lot between now and when they broadcast). These are just my first impressions of the not-for-air network pilots that I have been able to screen. I last wrote about The CW’s Containment. Next up: Fox’s Lucifer, which premieres at midseason. The Premise: Based on the DC/Vertigo comic. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, Lucifer Morningstar has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub, and begins assisting a skeptical detective on an investigation after a friend of his is murdered. The Cast: Tom Ellis (Merlin) as Lucifer Morningstar, Lauren German (Chicago Fire) as Detective Chloe Dancer, Db Woodside (24) as Amenadiel, Rachael Harris (SuitsNew Girl) as Kim Martin, Scarlett Estevez (The Massively Mixed-Up Middle School Mystery) as Trixie, »

New Us sci-fi, fantasy and horror shows for 2016

15 July 2015 3:19 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

From comic-book adaptations to sci-fi, fantasy and horror. Here are the new geek-skewed shows coming to Us TV in 2016...

The world of TV has never been so crowded and, at the same time, geeks have never had it so good. As saturated as the big screen is with superhero films and sprawling shared universes, that mentality has well and truly bled onto the small screen too.

So there’s a lot of comic-book adaptations coming up in 2016 from Marvel, DC and others, but genre TV is represented across the board with science-fiction, fantasy and horror represented at pretty much every network and cable channel in the Us.

Here's some of the geek TV that will be making its way to us from the Us next year.

Neil Gaiman fans shouldn't expect a 'Lucifer' TV show true to the comic book

13 July 2015 2:00 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Fox’s “Lucifer” hasn’t even starting airing yet, but the new series has already had to face some ire from fans of the source material. The show is based on the Lucifer Morningstar character in Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed comic “The Sandman” and a spin-off called “Lucifer” that was written by Mike Carey. Carey’s comic book series had Lucifer leaving his throne in Hell out of boredom and to further rebel against his creator. In Los Angeles, he opens a piano bar and plans to start a restful retirement. But it doesn’t turn out to be so restful, as he ends up at odds with an Archangel who’s trying to get him to go back to his place in Hell. Much of the series deals with Lucifer’s attempts to bring free will to humans, challenging the tyranny of predestination. The character is charming and actually »

Arrow's Kevin Alejandro Joins The Cast Of Lucifer As A Series Regular

1 July 2015 4:20 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Kevin Alejandro (of Arrow and Golden Boy fame) has joined the cast of Fox's comic book drama/procedural, Lucifer. According to Deadline, he joins the show in a series regular capacity, and will play the role of 'Dan', a gruff Lapd homicide detective, who is resentful towards Lucifer's connection with his wife and daughter. He replaces Nicholas Gonzalez, who originally portrayed the character in the show's pilot episode (directed by Underworld's Len Wiseman). Alejandro should be familiar to DC TV fans, having portrayed 'Sebastian Blood' on Arrow's Season 2. A recurring star on The CW show, he looks set to play a much more integral role in Lucifer - possibly as a rival to 'Lucifer Morningstar', the show's morally questionable lead character. He joins a cast that includes Lauren German, Lesley Ann-Brandt & Tom Ellis as the Lord of Hell himself. Lucifer will premiere mid-season on Fox, in »

Fan Fretting: Will there be anything left of ‘Lucifer’ by the series premiere?

12 May 2015 2:44 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

It’s hard to explain the precise level of trepidation fans of Vertigo’s “Lucifer” comic are feeling right now. Fox has picked up a series for their 2015-2016 season based on the cult-favorite comic; it should be a joyous occasion. “Lucifer” now joins the ranks of “The Walking Dead” and “Preacher” as a beloved cult classic comic with morally ambiguous themes to be adapted for television. But, as I’ve covered, from what we’ve seen very little of the comic book seems to remain after the show was cleaned up for primetime television. When Hollywood adapts a book or comic for television or film, concessions must be made. Side characters must be merged, journeys shortened, subplots excised. It’s the nature of the beast. There’s nothing wrong with some of the changes. For instance, Lucifer’s hair color. If “The Tudors” can successfully turn bonny ginger Henry VIII into a brooding brunette, »

Fox releases trailers for their 2015-2016 new show slate

With the 2014-2015 television season winding down, many television fans and channels are looking ahead to the new series that will make their debut over the next television season. Fox is no different, having announced their renewals, cancellations, and new series pickups over the last week, and the network has now released trailers for a number of their new series.

First up is the trailer for the new animated series Bordertown.

From Family Guy’s Mark Hentemann comes Bordertown, a new animated comedy about two families living in a Southwest desert town on the U.S. – Mexico border. The series takes a satirical look at the cultural shifts occurring in America, where the U.S. Census forecasts that by 2017, ethnic minorities will become the majority. Set against this increasingly diverse backdrop, the comedy explores family, politics and everything in between with a cross-cultural wink. Bordertown centers on two clans: the Buckwalds and the Gonzalezes. »
