Melissa George Dating French Businessman

29 April 2012 7:06 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Melissa George has gone public with her romance with French entrepreneur Jean-david Blanc.

The Australian beauty first sparked rumours of a new relationship after she was spotted smooching Blanc on the dancefloor at a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards afterparty in London in February.

George's new boyfriend has now been identified as technology mogul Blanc, who accompanied her to the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this week (ends29Apr12).

The pair appeared happy to be seen together as they enjoyed cocktails at the 2 Days in New York afterparty on Thursday.

A source tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "By 12.30am, the couple couldn't keep their hands off each other, leaving others gawking. George and the gent did not shy away from photographers, either, insisting that they be photographed together."

George dated hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons from July until February, when he confirmed their break-up on Twitter.com and blamed "the difficulty of long-distance relationships" for the split. »

Hamish Blake takes out the gold logie but ABC dominates

15 April 2012 6:58 PM, PDT | IF.com.au | See recent IF.com.au news »

Loving the underdog is what Aussies are all about, and this was proved again last night at the 54th Annual Logies Awards Ceremony held at Crown Palladium in Melbourne.

Despite Carrie Bickmore of Channel 10.s highly successful The Project being the favourite to take out the major gong, the Gold Logie for most popular personality on TV went instead to comedian Hamish Blake of Hamish and Andy.s Gap Year.

In a minor controversy leading up to this unexpected win, while testing its new IPad application the Herald Sun experienced a technical glitch, leading to the publishing of a link to an embargoed press release containing Logies winners an hour prior to the Gold Logie being officially announced during Channel Nine.s coverage.

The link was killed immediately, but not before Google picked it up. In the split second it was available, lucky net-trawlers picked it up and leaked it onto Facebook and Twitter, »

Hamish Blake wins Gold Logie as ABC is top network

15 April 2012 5:47 PM, PDT | Encore Magazine | See recent Encore Magazine news »

Nine comedian Hamish Blake has won the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality at the 54th TV Week Logie Awards.

However, public broadcaster the ABC won the most awards, followed by Nine, Seven and Ten.

Blake pipped fellow nominees Adam Hills, Asher Keddie, Karl Stevanovic, Carrie Bickmore and Esther Anderson to the top gong.

Blake’s win was leaked online by The Herald Sun about an hour before the presentation of the Gold Logie and was a spoiler for the room. However Ten’s Breakfast reports Blake maintained he didn’t know before the announcement was made.

Across the networks, the ABC came out on top with six and a shared award – the shared coming from Asher Keddie’s Most Popular Actress win for her work in both the ABC’s Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo and Ten’s Offspring.

Blake Is Toast Of The 2012 Logie Awards

15 April 2012 4:11 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Comedian Hamish Blake's big win at the 2012 Logie Awards was spoiled on Sunday after the news leaked online just hours before the ceremony.

The funnyman was the toast of the Australian TV prizegiving in Melbourne after receiving the evening's highest honour, the Gold Logie, which is presented to the country's most popular personality.

News of his win was posted online before the stars had even walked the red carpet, but Blake was unaware of his triumph, insisting, "Ultimately all that information was kept from me so it was a genuine surprise. I'm glad too because I am not a great actor."

Also receiving major accolades were Ben Rafter's Hugh Sheridan and Offspring's Asher Keddie, who both walked away with Silver Logies for Most Popular Actor and Actress, respectively.

The Slap star Melissa George took home the prize for Outstanding Actress and Rob Carloton of the Paper Giants took home the same award in the male category.

Rapper Flo Rida and singer Seal provided the entertainment for the evening, while Sir Elton John and Delta Goodrem took the stage to pay tribute to music personality Ian 'Molly' Meldrum, who suffered a severe head injury during a fall in December.

The Rocket Man said, "I know I speak for many artists and music lovers around world when I say thank you, there's no one like you," while Goodrem added, "I refer to Molly as the Godfather, he always watches over me and many other artists."

British boy band One Direction closed out the ceremony with a rendition of One Thing. »

Deadly Comparisons: 'The Amityville Horror' Original Vs Remake

11 April 2012 6:50 PM, PDT | MoreHorror | See recent MoreHorror news »

By Jesse Miller, MoreHorror.com

The point of this new little series will be to watch and examine the original film and its remake back to back and deconstruct them a bit, rambling about both the good and the bad of each film.

Comparing an original against a remake might seem a bit odd because more often than not, the original might always be the better film in nearly every aspect.

However, a decent remake is definitely not a rarity – sometimes it might prove to be just as good or, hell, even surpass the original.

So, without further ado, I bring you the first instalment to the series:

The Original: The Amityville Horror (1979)

“Houses don’t have memories” George Lutz says to his wife Kathy when asked how he feels about moving into a house which recently saw a family of six brutally murdered in their a sleep by fellow family member Ronald DeFeo, »

Swinging with the Finkels, 2011.

Directed by Jonathan Newman.

Starring Martin Freeman, Mandy Moore, Melissa George,Jerry Stiller, Jonathan Silverman and Angus Deayton.

Synopsis:

A London couple take up swinging in an effort to save their failing marriage.

It is a big year for Martin Freeman. This could well be the defining year of his cinematic career. As a TV star he’s had the fortune to have had critically lauded, iconic roles in The Office, not to mention his role in the recent BBC series Sherlock. His film career has yet to hit similar heights. He’s starred in the fairly enjoyable big screen adaptation of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, but aside from that there’s not been much of note. Certainly he’s got the potential to gain the sort of box office draw that Hugh Grant and Colin Firth have managed over the years. His role »

First Look at Melissa George in Hunted

8 April 2012 9:25 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Here’s your first look at Melissa George in her new Cinemax action-adventure spy series “Hunted” (formerly “Nemesis”, then “Morton”). I personally liked “Nemesis” better, but I guess “Hunted” works too since George’s character in the show is named Samantha Hunter. Hunter is being hunted. Thus, “Hunted”. Get it? So what’s “Hunted” about? Here’s an official synopsis: Meet Sam. A spy. A hunter. And herself hunted by an enemy more ruthless and determined than any she’s ever known. Sam has been running from her past her entire life but when she returns to Byzantium, the organisation that employs her, and begins to pursue her pursuer, she will discover the only way to escape that past… is to confront it. This is the story of a spy with a bull’s eye on her back, a human target unable to trust anyone at any time, even the man she loves. »

While on the set of his new spy-themed TV show "Hunted" (starring Melissa George) The X-Files writer Frank Spotnitz discussed his strong desire to do a new film in the series. Despite a perceived lack of audience interest. He told Screen Daily, "There is a very active and relentless fan campaign for a last movie. I do feel like it would be a terrible shame if that didnt happen. It feels wrong not to give it an ending around the alien colonisation of earth. David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson] feel the same. I have a clear idea of how it would go and Ive been talking to Chris Carter about it for a long time. Melissa George has revealed that she thinks Russell Simmons is "extraordinary". George Hopes To Reconcile With Simmons

19 March 2012 9:11 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Australian actress Melissa George hopes to reconcile with her ex-boyfriend Russell Simmons once she is back working in America because they struggled to sustain a long-distance romance.

The Amityville Horror star began dating the music mogul last year after the break-up of her marriage to Chilean film director Claudio Dabed, but they recently split due to their international work schedules.

George is currently filming a new TV show in the U.K. and wants to move back to New York once she is finished, and she hopes to reconnect with Simmons upon her return.

She tells Australia's Herald Sun, "We have a big love. It's something that's not going to be easy to let go of, but I'm on a job and he's busy. I was going back and forth (between London and New York) and we had a great holiday in St Barts (in January). But, at some point, a man needs a woman around.

"It's something we need to figure out, but we're very, very close and good friends. I have two more months of work here and then I'll be back in New York, so we'll see..."

She adds of Simmons, "He's so vibrant; he's the air everyone should breathe. He's an extraordinary man. He's a yogi and vegan and healthier than 20 men put together. And he makes me laugh until I'm rolling on the floor."

George was rumoured to have been spotted kissing a member of The Artist's production team at a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards afterparty last month, but the actress remains coy when asked about her new man.

She says, "It was pretty nice and pretty full on. We'll see about that one." »

George Opens Up About Failed Marriage

19 March 2012 5:06 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Australian actress Melissa George has spoken for the first time about her marriage breakdown, insisting it was "very hard" for her to leave her husband, but she "did the right thing".

The Amityville Horror star married Chilean film director Claudio Dabed in 2000, but they announced plans to divorce last year and she went on to date music mogul Russell Simmons.

George has now revealed she gave her husband "five years' notice on a couple of issues" but felt she had to walk away when those problems remained unsolved.

She tells Australia's Herald Sun, "It was something that happened pretty much overnight. I kind of gave him five years' notice on a couple of issues, and when it came up again for him, the lights just went out for me.

"I did have the best marriage. It was so full of love... But, at some point, when it stops serving your needs as a woman and the things that you want for your life, it's either get out now or wait until it's too late. It was very hard for me, but I'm glad I did it... I did the right thing. It was like an epiphany..."

George refuses to confirm the issues that led to the split, but hints her desire to have children may have played a part.

When asked about her plans for a baby, she adds, "I wanted children, yes, but I still have time. Now I can start from scratch... (I think about becoming a mother) every minute of the day. Some days, it rips my heart out. And then, other days, I almost forget about it because I'm so busy... My acting is going great; I'm financially independent and I'm not short of love - it's not as if I'm sitting around at home, moping.

"But whoever I have my baby with, I want to be proud of that man and I want to carry a child to a man who wants to do that as well. But, hey, I've got years when you think about it." »

A Lonely Place to Die (2011)

Directed by: Julian Gilbey

Written by: Julian Gilbey, Will Gilbey

Starring: Melissa George, Ed Speelers, Sean Harris, Karel Roden, Alec Newman

My first thought when looking at the box for A Lonely Place to Die was that there has to be lonelier places to die. I'm not the greatest at championing nature, but wouldn't dying in the Scottish Highlands be all calm and peaceful? Plus, don't people always say that wide open and extraordinary landscapes such as the Scottish Highlands are filled with souls of...nature spirits or something?! I'm fairly certain a "lonely place" to die would be like the...health food section in a Walmart, or perhaps at Uwe Boll's birthday party. But who am I to judge?

A group of mountaineers make a grim discovery in the Scottish Highlands: an eight-year-old girl trapped amid the peaks, terrified, dehydrated and unable to speak a word of English. »

George Misses Filming After Eurostar Chaos

9 March 2012 12:06 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Filming on new British spy drama Nemesis was delayed this week (begs05Mar12) because actress Melissa George was stuck on a Eurostar train after a break in France with her new boyfriend, according to a U.K. report.

The Australian beauty split from rap mogul Russell Simmons earlier this year after a six-month romance, and rumours last month suggested she had a new man in her life.

Onlookers at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards afterparty claim George was seen kissing a member of The Artist's production team, and Britain's Daily Mail alleges she spent the weekend (03-04Mar12) with the man, named as Jean David, in France.

However, George's trip back to Britain was thrown into chaos when an overhead power cable on the Eurostar collapsed, stopping services and delaying trains for hours - causing her to miss filming on new TV drama Nemesis.

A source tells the publication, "The delay cost a lot of money, but it wasn't Melissa's fault. Everyone is glad she appears to be in love again."

George wasn't the only star affected by the Eurostar chaos - Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell, as well as the singer's daughter Stella, were stranded on a train for six hours on Monday night. »
