Columbia Pictures picked up the rights to a screen adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune back in June, and Kyle Ward was quickly attached to write.
Due to other commitments, Ward has now gracefully bowed out of the project, and screenwriting duo Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer stepped in to take his place.
The two writers were responsible for Sahara, Conan, Cowboys & Aliens, and the upcoming adaptation of the comic book Dead of Night.
Donnelly and Oppenheimer will have their hands full writing the action-packed adaptation. The video game, which sold 1 million copies in its first 10 weeks on the market, follows treasure hunter Nate Drake who is, of course, descended from the famous explorer Sir Francis Drake.
Drake believes a cursed statue has revealed to him the location of the legendary city of El Dorado, and sets out to find the treasure that is said to be hidden there. »

A few months ago before the release of Uncharted 2 on PS3, there was a report that a film version of the popular game series would be made into a movie. Since then not much has been heard until now, our friends at Latino Review are reporting that original writer, Kyle Ward will not be writing Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune for Sony citing Ward’s work on Hitman 2 preventing him from getting Sony a script sooner.
It is looking like the studio is going to hire Conan screenwriters Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to write the screenplay. While this deal has yet to be finalized, Latino Review is certain that it will be announced in the trades sometime soon.
I have read some of the Conan script and its okay, I think these 2 guys can do fine with the Uncharted source material which will probably combine Indiana Jones and »

When it was announced in June that Columbia Pictures was developing "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune", a movie based on Sony's hit video game, the studio tapped Kyle Ward to write the script. However, Latino Review recently learned that the scribe has dropped out of the movie project and the studio has approached other potential writers.
Being in talks to fill Ward's abandoned position are Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. The duo, who wrote the upcoming "Conan" reboot, will likely team up once again to pen the script for the action-adventure movie as the negotiations are underway and they are reportedly close to seal a deal.
Regarding the reason why Ward left "Uncharted" at the last minute, it has been reported that Ward was contractually obliged to deliver drafts for his other movie projects, particularly "Hitman 2". Meanwhile, Sony did not want to wait around for a draft because they and »

With the mounting success of The Hurt Locker behind them, director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal are collaborating again on a new project called Triple Frontier. The duo went to Paramount and pitched the studio on their idea, the exact nature of which is being kept a secret. We know that it's an action-adventure and that the story takes place in the shady borderzone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. Easy access to two rivers and heavy vegitation make it a perfect hideaway for crimelords that don't want to attract curious onlookers.
Charles Roven (The Dark Knight), Alex Gartner (Get Smart) and Steve Alexander (Swimming With Sharks) will produce for Paramount while Bigelow and Boal will both receive executive producer credits. »

War correspondent turned screenwriter Mark Boal has re-team with his “Hurt Locker” director, the ridiculously hot Kathryn Bigelow for a new movie: “Triple Frontier”. Variety says the crime film will be set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge to form the titular “Triple Frontier”, an area that is difficult to monitor and thus has become a haven for organized crime and other characters of ill-intentions. It’s also the setting for “Elite Squad” director Jose Padilha’s upcoming terrorism movie “A Willing Patriot”. After working on the Iraq War-set “Hurt Locker” together, Boal and Bigelow re-teamed to pitch the story for “Triple Frontier” to the boys at Atlas Entertainment. The company’s Charles Roven, Alex Gartner and Steve Alexander will produce the movie, one of many that Atlas has gotten their hands on in recent months, including “Season of »

- Let's just say they ain't trading coffee beans at this trading post. Almost guaranteed to be among the Oscar shortlist for their set in the Iraq, edge-of-your-seat thriller, the pairing of director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal will now go into dense, snake infested back country - a very particular spot on the globe. Variety reports that Bigelow will follow up The Hurt Locker with, Triple Frontier - a tale set in the notorious border zone between Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge -- making "la triple frontera" difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime. Those that are monitoring this area are probably one of the high ranking intelligence branches in the U.S. I imagine Paramount Pictures, who are looking to set up shop next year, will allow for Boal to immerse himself in the arms trades and contraband culture »

Paramount is reteaming director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal on a new action/adventure project titled Triple Frontier. Bigelow and Boal last collaborated on The Hurt Locker (read my interview with them), one of this summer's best films about a bomb tech in Iraq. Triple Frontier is described as a high-stakes ensemble project that is set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil - making "la triple frontera" difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime. The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven is developing through Atlas Entertainment with Alex Gartner and Steve Alexander. If you haven't seen The Hurt Locker yet, then I suggest you make it your mission to see it before the summer is over, it's that good. My hopes are that Triple Frontier is a lot like that, with very intense scenes and an incredibly realistic feel, but set in that border »

Boal is still writing the script, but Roven hopes to begin production on Triple Frontier next year. Yesterday it was reported by Variety that Sam Raimi, director of Drag Me To Hell and the Spider-Man trilogy, has signed on to direct the live-action movie adaptation of the famous online game “World of Warcraft.”
Videogame publisher Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures will finance the film, with Warner Brothers co-financing and distributing. Not only does this project have Raimi on board, it also has The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven ready to play as well.
Said Raimi about the massively multiplayer online role playing game (Mmorpg), “At it’s core, ‘Warcraft’ is a fantastic, action-packed story.”
The plan right now is for Raimi to overlook pre-production of the “Warcraft” film while also directing Spider-Man 4. He will work on Warcraft once Spider-Man 4 is finished.
Currently, the game has more than 11.5 million subscribers monthly. It premiered in 1994 as “Warcraft: Orcs and Humans,” but has only been growing since then. »
