Exclusive: Half Yard Productions, the company behind TLC’s long-running series Say Yes To The Dress, is losing its two most senior executives.
CEO Dirk Hoogstra and Chief Creative Officer Nicole Sorrenti are exiting the company, which is owned by Peter Chernin’s The North Road Company. North Road took it over as part of its deal to acquire the U.S. assets of Red Arrow Studios last year.
It follows layoffs within the company over the summer as North Road looked to “right-size” the business.
It comes at a difficult time for unscripted producers; many companies in the genre are struggling as buying seems to have hit a low and the writers and actors strike didn’t bring any boom to the area, as happened with the 07/08 strike. There are fewer places to sell unscripted reality series and the market has been hurting.

New Delhi, Aug 7 (Ians) Researchers have observed CryptoRom fraudsters refining their techniques, including adding a ChatGPT-like AI chat tool to their toolset to trick users into scams, a new report said on Monday. According to the cybersecurity firm Sophos, scammers were able to sneak seven new fake cryptocurrency investment apps into the official Apple App and Google Play stores, upping the potential for victims.
The researchers first learned of CryptoRom scammers using the AI chat tool – most likely ChatGPT – when a conned victim reached out to the team.
After contacting the victim on Tandem, a language-sharing app that has also been used as a dating app, the scammer convinced the victim to move their conversation to WhatsApp. The victim became suspicious after he received a lengthy message that was clearly partly written by an AI chat tool using a large language model (Llm), the report said.

New Delhi, May 18 (Ians) Experts have exposed several apps as ChatGPT-based chatbots that overcharge users and bring in thousands of dollars a month, a new report showed on Thursday.
According to cybersecurity company Sophos, there are a number of free apps that are available on Google Play and Apple App Store, but because they provide little functionality and are constantly ad-ridden, they entice unsuspecting users to subscribe for hundreds of dollars a year.
“With interest in AI and chatbots arguably at an all-time high, users are turning to the Apple App and Google Play Stores to download anything that resembles ChatGPT. These types of scam apps — what Sophos has dubbed ‘fleeceware’ — often bombard users with ads until they sign up for a subscription,” said Sean Gallagher, principal threat researcher, Sophos.
According to the report, experts investigated five of these ChatGPT fleeceware apps, all of which claimed to be based on ChatGPT’s algorithm.

U.S. Capitol police are warning of some threats of violence at a pro-Donald Trump rally planned for Saturday, in which demonstrators plan to express their support for defendants arrested and charged in the January 6 siege on the complex.
The Justice for J6 rally is expected to draw far-right demonstrators, but Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger told reporters that “we would be foolish not to take seriously the intelligence we have at our disposal. How credible it is, how likely it is, people can make those judgments. But the reality is we are hearing some chatter that I think would be responsible for us to plan the way we have been planning and put the precautions in place.”
Security has been tightened at the Capitol and on its grounds, with a fence reinstalled on Thursday morning. Following the January 6 attack, the fence was installed around the complex and, for a time,...

'No Good Deed' movie going unpunished to top weekend box office? (photo: Idris Elba in 'No Good Deed') Apologies for the bad wordplay above, but if Friday estimates are a reliable indicator, No Good Deed should indeed go unpunished to the top of the domestic box office this weekend, September 12-14, 2014. But why "unpunished"? Well, so far the Sam Miller-directed thriller starring four-time Emmy nominee Idris Elba (Luther) and Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) has a downright putrid 10% score and 2.6/10 average among Rotten Tomatoes' top critics. Sony Pictures, whose subsidiary ScreenGems is distributing No Good Deed, reportedly opted to skip late Thursday screenings to ensure that the film's plot twist would be kept under wraps. More likely, however, it was the critics' derisive remarks that Sony wanted under wraps. For instance: "The final plot twist...

China is a pretty big country, but for many Westerners their exposure to it is limited to martial arts movies and stories about child labor in the service of iPhone manufacturing. And while factory kids do in fact use tai-chi against unscrupulous gangsters on a near daily basis there’s so much more to modern day China than hand-to-hand combat and questionable labor practices. This is especially true in China’s most populous and advanced city, Shanghai. Sam (Daniel Henney) is a corporate lawyer dispatched by his bosses to handle business in Shanghai for a few months, but while he’s of Chinese descent he’s never stepped foot out of NYC. He accepts the assignment in his bid for an upcoming partner position, but he’s going to be counting the days. He’s met at the airport by Amanda (Eliza Coupe), a relocation specialist and single mom who introduces him to the city’s ex-pat...

Following the success of Kathy Burke's Little Cracker short film, which aired on Sky 1 over Christmas 2010, the actress has written her first ever TV series, which has been picked up by Sky Atlantic.
Young Kathy harboured a dream to be an actress, but circumstance and her upbringing made it an unlikely dream.
The four-part Walking and Talking tells stories inspired from her teenage years - time spent skiving from school with her best friend, talking about boys and planning for the future. Her Little Cracker told of how a chance meeting with The Clash changed her life.
17 year old Ami Metcalf (represented by Kelly Management) will reprise her role starring as the young Kathy with Aimee-Ffion Edwards (Sketch from Skins) again playing her best friend.
Kathy Burke herself will also appear in each episode as Angry Nun, alongside Sean Gallagher (Coronation Street, Linda Green, Death in Paradise) who will play Pretty Nun,...

Recently, while strolling up the main artery of my downtown New York neighborhood, I noticed that there was a metal grate over a familiar storefront. Peering through the security bars, I saw that the store space was suddenly empty, as if a vacuum cleaner had sucked out its contents. Cinema Classics was gone! I can't say that I was surprised. Even in the age of the vanishing DVD store, it was a defiantly eccentric and homespun venue, a true hole in the wall (the entire place probably measured 10 x 15 feet), with DVDs stocked and organized into eccentric little movie-buff categories,...

"D.C." was announced as in development; Washington publications have speculated that cast members will include Lisa Wernick Spies, wife of Republican fundraiser Charlie Spies, and Lynda Erkiletian, president of a Washington modeling agency. Bravo would not confirm castings.

When I prepare to write a movie review, one of the first things I do is point my browser at IMDb.com. When I went to the site and looked up Big Night, the user comment that showed up was eerily similar to a general 'angle' I was considering working. So strange was this event to me, that I am going to share the relevant portion with you. The following comes (as I said) from the main page you reach at IMDb.com's listing for Big Night. It comes from one Sean Gallagher (email address naes@cgocable.net), of Oakville, Ont. Canada. "When the British film magazine Sight & Sound had one of their periodic times of asking critics to list what they thought were the best films ever made, there was a book which collected articles by several of them, one of whom said that if you were the type...
