TV and cinema are turning again to life in the White House and on the campaign trail for drama while the approval ratings for real politicians are at rock bottom
She is a former first lady turned top diplomat. She had a president for a husband who was notorious for infidelity. But, with her scrappy guile and sheer determination, she remains a heroine to many ordinary Americans who desperately want her to run for the Oval Office.
But this is not secretary of state Hillary Clinton. This is Elaine Barrish Hammond, a fictional politician played by Sigourney Weaver who is about to hit television screens in a new six-part drama called Political Animals.
American politics has rarely looked this good. In a trailer for the show briefly put online, Weaver's Hammond cuts a sexy figure, with red hair to match her figure-hugging red clothing. In one scene Hammond compares herself to great women from history. »

This week:
Galifianakis joins A Confederacy of Dunces, Wilson, Wilde and Larson go Nuts for Bogdanovich; Segal boards a Diesel powered Machine, and Bradley Cooper takes aim at American Sniper.
1. The Hangover star Zach Galifianakis may be the one to finally bring John Kennedy Toole’s Pulitzer Prize–winning novel, A Confederacy of Dunces to the screen.
The long-gestating adaptation has been on and off for over thirty years with the likes of John Belushi, John Candy Chris Farley and (most recently) Will Ferrell attached to the role of Ignatius J. Reilly.
The Muppets director James Bobin looks set to direct the film which will be scripted by Phil Johnston and produced by Scott Rudin.
It might be a little early to start cracking open the champagne, but the signs are looking Reilly good.

Directed by: Jay Roach
Starring: Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Sudeikis
Rating: Not Yet Rated
Release Date: August 10, 2012
Trailer Score: 8/10
Thoughts by Tsr: I’ve never been a huge fan of Jay Roach, but it’s been interesting to see him become HBO’s guy for their recent political films (“Recount” and “Game Change”). I like that he’s jumping from those to a comedic attempt at something in the same arena. Yes, The Campaign is actually a comedy, but it’s not really that much more absurd than the events depicted in “Game Change.” With this cast, I have faith that Roach can do something very funny.
It doesn’t all work – Ferrell getting both bitten by a snake and shot with a crossbow feels like overkill – but most of it does. Galifianakis’s son admitting what happened at the petting zoo, the candidates shaking hands prior »

Director Peter Bogdanovich is assembling an incredibly impressive team both in front of and behind the camera for his next feature. Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, Olivia Wilde and Brie Larson (21 Jump Street) are attached to star in the indie comedy Squirrels to the Nuts with Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach onboard to produce the pic; it's essentially The Avengers of quirky cinema. The film centers on a hooker-turned-Broadway-thesp, played by Larson, and follows the “recurring intersection between these two facets of her life.” Hit the jump for more. Per Variety, Larson is attached to play the lead in the film, which was also written by Bogdanovich. Wilson will play a Broadway director who pays for Larson’s escort services despite being married to the star of the play. Schwarztman is being courted to play a playwright who falls for Larson “despite the fact that he's dating her therapist (Wilde), whose »

Zach Galifianakis is set to star in 'A Confederacy of Dunces'. The 'Hangover' actor looks set to be joined by 'The Muppets' director James Bobin in the movie adaptation of John Kennedy Toole's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. Zach will portray Ignatius J Reilly, an eccentric 30-something who still lives with his mother but sets out to making something of his life and aims to find a job in New Orleans' French Quarter, Vulture reports. 'Cedar Rapids' writer Phil Johnston is penning the script for the motion picture, which will be produced by Scott Rudin. Zach's 'The Campaign' co-star Will Ferrell previously set out to make a movie based on the novel - which was published in 1980, more than one decade after the author's suicide - with a script co-written by Steven Soderbergh, but the film was never made. When asked what happened with the project, »

It seems the world is made up of two kinds of people. There are those that absolutely love and adore Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, and those that think their brand of "anti-comedy" is awful, unfunny and, in some instances, a preview of what hell will be like.
I myself am the former. Being as such, Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie was assuredly made for me. Well, most of it, anyways.
It's easy to have been skeptical from the get go as to how Tim and Eric would pull off taking their 15 minute long TV show Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! and making an entire movie out of their personal brand of comedy. The secret is that Billion Dollar Movie actually has a plot.

They've been to Vegas and Thailand, so where's will Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms get ridiculously drunk next?
Tijuana, Mexico it seems.
The location of The Hangover III, had been a secret, however an industry insider recently revealed to Life & Style Weekly magazine: "A lot of it will be shot in Los Angeles, but then they are going to do the crazy scenes in Las Vegas again and then one wild week in Tijuana."
The first flick, filmed in Las Vegas and released in summer 2009, earned an incredible $467 million at the box office. Two years later, the second film, set in Bangkok, made even more: $581 million.
The plot of the third film is still under wraps, but Zach Galifiankis recently told Rolling Stone that he heard the plot ditches the format of the first two and focuses on his character escaping from a mental institution with help from the wolf pack. »

It's a great piece of casting: Zach Galifianakis as Ignatius J. Reilly in a film adaptation of "A Confederacy of Dunces." And it looks like the movie may actually happen after decades of false starts.
Vulture reports that director James Bobin ("The Muppets," "Flight of the Conchords") is in negotiations to take on the movie, with Scott Rudin ("The Social Network," "True Grit") producing and Phil Johnston ("Cedar Rapids") adapting John Kennedy Toole's novel. Galifianakis ("The Hangover") is attached to play Ignatius, the slovenly, scholarly outcast hero of the book.
"A Confederacy of Dunces" has a long and fraught history in coming to the screen. Harold Ramis was set to direct a movie based on the book in 1982, but his intended star, John Belushi, died of a drug overdose a few days before a meeting with studio executives. Projects starring John Candy and Chris Farley came and went. Will Ferrell »

Locked and Loaded: The name of this Western, selling like hotcakes at Cannes, is Jane Got a Gun, but don’t expect the usual-usual. Natalie Portman (above, in Thor) is attached to star and produce and Lynne Ramsey (We Need to Talk About Kevin) is attached to direct, which indicates something out of the ordinary is in the works. The plot involves a woman who must reach out to an ex-lover when her outlaw husband returns home nearly dead, too weak to defend their farm from his vengeful gang. Like hoverbikes and private space travel (actually kind of a thing now!), there are a lot of "in development" projects that those of us who grew up in the '80s have been waiting to see come to fruition since, well, the '80s. A film adaptation of A Confederacy of Dunces is one of these projects. Vulture reports that lovable beard-o Zach Galifianakis is attached to play Ignatius J. Reilly, James Bobin (The Muppets) to direct, Phil Johnston (Cedar Rapids) to write, and Scott Rudin to produce via Paramont. Our hearts are all pittter-patter again. For those not in the know, John Kennedy Toole’s posthumously published work follow a well-educated, unapologetically elitist thirty-year-old slob who still lives with his mother in New Orleans' Uptown neighborhood as he searches for work, watches movies, and encounters a wealth of the city's eccentrics and weirdos. It is wonderful and [...] »
