Donald Trump caused an uproar during the presidential debate Monday night when he generalized hackers as someone who "weighs 400 lbs." After Hillary Clinton mentioned that intelligence officials have "high confidence" that Russia was involved with the recent hack into the Democratic National Committee's servers, Trump instead argued that it could have been anyone. "She's saying Russia, Russia, Russia. But I don't - maybe it was. I mean, it could be Russia, but it could also be China. It could also be lots of other people. It also could be somebody sitting on their bed that weighs 400 lbs.," Trump responded. "You »

The Bleeder Review [Tiff 2016]

16 September 2016 11:10 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The Bayonne Bleeder – Jersey’s own Chuck Wepner – might be a Garden State boxing legend, yet Philippe Falardeau’s The Bleeder lacks his face-splitting determination. This is a boxing dramedy less worried about the actual matches, and more focused on telling the zany story of Wepner’s egotistical squanderings (from booze to hard drugs to loose women). Falardeau’s coke-fueled vision is never a dull one, it’s just a rags-to-pretend-riches story that struggles to differentiate itself from a billion other biopics of the same self-destructive nature. Wepner slugs, swills and sins his way to iconic mediocrity, leaving a trail of white, powdery dust in his wake – but the party-dramatics feel all-too familiar, because we’ve seen them time and time again.

Review: 'Better Things' & 'One Mississippi' show power of autobiographical comedy

7 September 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Comedy doesn't have to be autobiographical, but it can help a lot. Whether in sitcom plots or stand-up routines, specificity makes everything better, and it's hard to get more specific than drawing details the writers know by heart because they've lived them. Many of TV's greatest comedies were heavily based on the experiences of their creators and/or stars, from The Dick Van Dyke Show — where Carl Reiner would famously begin each Monday by asking his writers to recount what they did with their spouses and kids over the weekend — to Roseanne, Seinfeld (and, thus, Curb Your Enthusiasm), Everybody Loves Raymond, and recent shows like black-ish. Peak TV also seems to have brought with it Peak Autobiographical Dramedy, with comedians playing a version of themselves that's thinly-disguised at best, having adventures that feel therapeutic as much as comic. Even with Louie — the creative high point, to date, of this particular »

Jerry Seinfeld: 'Show About Nothing' Tag Is 'Nonsense'

Seinfeld has been long-dubbed a "show about nothing." But co-creator/star Jerry Seinfeld dismissed that label as "nonsense" during a wide-ranging interview for The Hollywood Reporter's "Awards Chatter" podcast. "That was made up by the press," the comedian said, noting the phrase arose after an episode in which George Constanza (Jason Alexander) pitched Jerry, the series' sitcom-within-a-sitcom, with that tagline.

Elsewhere in the podcast, Seinfeld claimed Friends essentially ripped off the formula of his show ("We thought, 'They wanna do our show with better-looking people. That's what they're doing here. »
