Video: Check Out The Amazing Miniatures Of ‘Blade Runner 2049’

Weta Workshop has released an interesting new video over on YouTube showing off some pretty amazing work on this year’s Blade Runner 2049. The featurette focusses in on the amazing miniature models used in the film and shows how they were used to bring this amazing vision to the screen.

Weta contributed practical miniatures, selected cinematography, and concept design work to Blade Runner 2049, which was of course directed by Denis Villeneuve.

The description for the video reads:

This was a passion project for our crew, who are huge fans of Ridley Scott’s iconic 1982 original. Here in Wellington, Nz, we hand-made enormous miniature sets which were then filmed by legendary cinematographer Alex Funke. In the Design Studio, our team of conceptual designers helped give shape to the director’s vision.

It’s a really interesting feature to watch, particularly for fans of the movie, which was received very well universally,

Sporadic resurrections in the '80s and '90s turned out to be critical and commercial bombs (Pirates, Cutthroat Island), something that didn't bode well for the Walt Disney Company's $140 million-budgeted film "adaptation" of one of their theme-park rides. But Neptune's mood has apparently improved with the arrival of the new century.
