‘Walking Dead’ Creator Robert Kirkman Sets New Deal With Amazon

The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman has inked an overall deal with Amazon, while Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment has signed a first-look deal with the streamer, Variety has learned.

Kirkman and Skybound will develop television projects to debut exclusively on Prime Video. Skybound Entertainment’s co-presidents of film and television, Bryan and Sean Furst, will oversee the Amazon project slate in conjunction with Kirkman and Skybound co-founder David Alpert.

“Robert is a gifted storyteller who shares our passion for elevated genre storytelling that pushes boundaries,” said Sharon Tal Yguado, head of event series for Amazon Studios. “Robert and the team at Skybound are some of the most innovative and fearless creatives in the business. Together, we plan to explore immersive worlds and bold ideas for Prime Video.”

Haley Lu Richardson Joins Elizabeth McGovern’s PBS Movie ‘The Chaperone’

Split” star Haley Lu Richardson has joined Elizabeth McGovern in on the period drama “The Chaperone” — the first film from PBS Masterpiece.

Principal photography has started, producers announced Tuesday. “The Chaperone,” based on Laura Moriarty’s best-selling novel, is scripted by Julian Fellowes, directed by Michael Engler, and will air on PBS stations nationwide after its initial theatrical run.

McGovern, who is also a producer, optioned the novel and worked with Fellowes to adapt it for the big screen. McGovern portrays a woman whose life is changed forever when she chaperones a young and soon to be famous Louise Brooks — played by Richardson — to New York in the early 1920s.

Brooks, an icon of the 1920s for popularizing the bob haircut, would go on to star in 25 films, including “Pandora’s Box,” “Diary of a Lost Girl,” and “Miss Europe” before retiring in 1938.

Elizabeth McGovern, Patrick Fugit, Chris Parnell Starring in ‘A Name Without a Place’ (Exclusive)

Elizabeth McGovern, Patrick Fugit, Chris Parnell, Bryan Burton, and Charlotte Best are starring in Kenny Riches’ just-wrapped drama “A Name Without a Place,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Principal photography began in mid-April at the Sydonie Mansion in Mt. Dora, Fla., and included shooting in Miami and the Florida Keys. The production migrated to Los Angeles on May 12 and wrapped principal photography at the end of May in Marina Del Rey. UTA is repping the film for sales.

Producers are Anthony Pedone, Jesse Brown, and Ian Peterson. The film also stars Siddharth Dhananjay (“Patty Cake$”) and David Sullivan (“Flaked”). »

Scott Lew, a screenwriter and director who kept working to the end despite a long battle with Als, has died. He was 48.

Lew died Feb. 25 at his Valley Glen home in Los Angeles, his wife, Ann, told The Hollywood Reporter. He was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in June 2003.
