Converted to Christianity after the war after reading a religious tract given to him by Jacob DeShazer. De Shazer had flown on the "Doolittle Raid", was captured and held as a POW by the Japanese. De Shazer had experienced his own religious conversion during his captivity and became a missionary to Japan after his release.
