With the exception of a pair of Fox Searchlight titles (The East and Stoker), Warner Bros.’ Before Midnight and 6 hour mini-series from Jane Campion (Top of the Lake) the 2013 Sundance Film Festival Premieres program is chock-full of acquisition friendly titles. Fourteen in all, the selection includes several returning filmmakers in Drake Doremus, David Gordon Green, Rob Epstein & Jeffrey Friedman and Michael Winterbottom and Joseph Gordon-Levitt — all filmmakers that I accurately predicted would return with product and when we find cast names/star wattage we usually find quality – not surprisingly, four Blacklist listed projects The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman (’07), A.C.O.D. (’08), Stoker (’10), The Way, Way Back (’10) (joining the previously announced Toy’s House and Spectacular Now) are among the announcements. And final note: the chances of bumping into either actors Dermont Mulroney or James Franco at a Park City party have now increased: Franco who brings his experimental directed film Interior. Sundance Film Festival 2013 is becoming more and more promising seemingly with each passing day.
Then came the Spotlight, Park City at Midnight, and New Frontier line-ups, which included Sightseers’ Us premiere, S-vhs, and We Are What We Are.
And tonight the festival has announced its line-ups in the Premieres and Documentary Premieres category, and they are somewhat amazing.
Topping the list is Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s feature directorial debut, Don Jon’s Addiction, which is all but guaranteed to be one of the best films of next year.
Also heading to Utah will be Zal Batmanglij’s The East, starring Ellen Page, Brit Marling, Alexander Skarsgård, and Toby Kebbell, seeing the director re-team with Marling once more following the success of Sound of My Voice. »

Along with Francois Ozon, Michael Winterbottom is easily the most prolific, hardest working and most diverse filmmaker in the business and has lineage to every major film festival one could think of. The filmmaker has been to the fest on five previous occasions to showcase films he has directed Go Now (’96 Sundance), Wonderland (’00 Sundance), 9 Songs (’05 Sundance) and in 2010 he showcased this pair: The Killer Inside Me and The Shock Doctrine. In 2013, The Look of Love (formerly titled The King of Soho) would be a great fit for the fest – as it would secure a U.S theatrical release deal especially with a cast that includes: Imogen Poots, Anna Friel, Stephen Fry, Steve Coogan, Tamsin Egerton and Matt Lucas. Pic will receive a March release in the UK.

With ABC cancelling Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue recently, we decided to look back on other TV series that were cancelled too soon.
(1 season, 22 episodes, ended in 2012)
Sarah Michelle Geller plays a pair of twin sisters who are complete opposites. There’s Bridget, a recovering drug addict and stripper, and her wealthy sister Siobhan. The pilot shows them getting reacquainted, when Bridget wakes up to find her sister gone, under the impression she committed suicide she decides to become Siobhan. Bridget’s life soon becomes more complicated as she discovers the darker side of Siobhan’s life and that someone is trying to kill her sister.
The drama was filled with action and suspense and driven by sordid plot twists. Despite being nominating for a ton of awards and winning half of them, Ringer was cancelled due to decline in ratings after a three-month hiatus.

The Brit answer to Scorcese and DeNiro have reunited once again for soft porn biopic The Look Of Love. The ever-excellent Steve Coogan and director Michael Winterbottom will bring the story of Paul Raymond, the famous (or rather infamous) born baron known as the King Of Soho, to the big-screen. The film will mark the fourth time of working together after music maestro Tony Wilson’s biopic 24 Hour Party People, A Cock & Bull Story and acclaimed television series The Trip.
Before we see Coogan reprise his iconic role of a Norfolk legend in Alan Partridge: The Movie, The Look Of Love will see how Raymond (who is looking rather Tony Ferrino-esque) rose up the ranks as mucky mag owning millionaire. We have the first poster and images of the film set for cinemas later next year.

Coogan plays Paul Raymond, a 20th century legend who became known as the ‘King Of Soho,’ while Anna Friel (as Raymond’s wife Jean), Imogen Poots (as his tragic daughter Debbie), Matt Lucas, Stephen Fry and David Walliams co-star.
Coogan told Empire:
Like 24 Hour Party People, it’s a very British story about an eccentric character at the centre of pivotal events in British culture. I love the film. It has that strange combination of comedy and tragedy that Michael Winterbottom manages to pull off with a real deftness of touch. Like very few films these days »

Over the summer, we wrote about a project called The King of Soho that would have The Avengers villain Tom Hiddleston taking on the role of porn baron Paul Raymond, the man behind soft-porn magazines like Men Only, Escort, Club International, Mayfair and more. It was the second project with that title as The Trip and The Killer Inside Me director Michael Winterbottom was directing a film with Steve Coogan playing Raymond and actresses Anna Friel and Imogen Poots in supporting roles. Now Winterbottom's film is going by the name The Look of Love and we have some swanky photos and a snazzy first poster. Here's the first look photos and poster for Michael Winterbottom's The Look of Love from Empire: Coogan told Empire, "Like 24 Hour Party People, it's a very British story about an eccentric character at the centre of pivotal events in British culture. I love the film. »

Michael Winterbottom (24 Hour Party People) has reunited with the great Steve Coogan once more, to bring us what will undoubtedly be one of the funniest films of next year, and one of the best coming out of the UK, The Look of Love.
Previously titled King of Soho, the first look at Coogan in the lead has debuted over at Empire, along with a new poster, teasing an absolutely terrific moustache on Coogan’s part.
“A comedy-drama about the colourful business and personal life of renowned club proprietor and porn publisher Paul Raymond.”
Winterbottom is directing from a script by two-time BAFTA-nominated Matt Greenhalgh (Control, Nowhere Boy), with the director partnering once more with frequent collaborator, Melissa Parmenter (9 Songs, The Trip »

This was probably not Billie Piper's finest hour, but in 2005 she was one of the stars of a British film called Things To Do Before You're 30. It was about the tangled romantic mesh tying together a group of twentysomethings as they approached full maturity. By chance it also starred Emilia Fox, the cousin of Piper's future husband.
Just a few weeks ago Piper really did turn 30 and today it seems highly unlikely that any young woman, in fiction or in real life, can have done quite as much as she has, or done it all so publicly, before reaching that age.
A brief list makes the point clearly. Quite apart from opening on Tuesday night »

Soaring to fame this year with the release of their second album, Babel, which became the biggest selling debut of 2012, with 600,000 copies sold in its first week alone in the Us, Mumford and Sons are returning with the next single from the new album, Lover of the Light.
Following the release of the lead single, I Will Wait, back in August, Lover of the Light is set for release in the UK on 3rd December (but is of course available now as part of the album), and the band have put out the music video for the song, which stars none other than Idris Elba, himself, with Elba also directing alongside Dan Cadan.
The Golden Globe-winning and Emmy-nominated actor is perhaps best known for his leading role in Luther, and was most recently seen earlier this year in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. He’ll soon be seen in the lead »
