He produced comedy sketches for Tony Hancock, Tommy Cooper, Frankie Howerd, Roy Hudd, and Arthur Askey, but he will be best remembered for his work with Benny Hill. He was co-writer on the show from its debut in 1955 to the mid-1960s, as well as appearing in many sketches. He also created Hill's award-winning advertisements for Schweppes.
He was a petty officer in the Royal Navy and a Special Branch
detective, before becoming a comedy writer for TV and radio. He was
also a successful playwright and was most proud of his theater work.
