'One Life to Live' airs first gay sex scene. World does not end.

31 December 2009 11:01 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Here we are on the cusp of the second decade of the 21st century. Daytime soap operas find themselves scrambling to survive. Radical measures are being employed to stay alive. Picking up and moving the whole "All My Children" production from New York to Los Angeles after nearly 40 years? Check. Casting bona fide movie star James Franco on "General Hospital"? Got it. Airing the first daytime gay sex scene on "One Life to Live"? Covered.

On Wednesday (Dec. 30), the ABC soap "Oltl" broke that same sex barrier usually watered down to a chaste kiss here and there when Oliver "Fish" (Scott "younger-brother-of-Chris" Evans) and Kyle (Brett Claywell), a.k.a. Kish, spent nearly two-and-a-half minutes getting busy.

While soap opera sex scenes are par so for the course when it comes to straight couples, this is definitely a noteworthy scene as far as same-sex relationships go not only on soaps but network television at large. »

Looking Back On 2009 With The MTV Movies Team

31 December 2009 9:00 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

And so we reach the end of 2009. It's been quite a year for movies, hasn't it? Records were broken, vampires continued to sparkle and the game was presumably changed. James Cameron showed the world that he still knows how to tell a tale. Neill Blomkamp and Oren Peli both proved that there are still fresh, original ways of presenting familiar fare. And folks like Joel and Ethan Coen, Jason Reitman, Quentin Tarantino, J.J. Abrams, Spike Jonze and the entire Pixar team continued to define themselves as some of our favorite storytellers.

Here on the MTV Movies team, everyone has a different idea about what made 2009 a fantastic one for film. I'm here to share some of those highlight moments and favorite movies with you now. The entire team isn't represented here -- busy end-of-year schedules and all that jazz -- but you get a good sampling of what moved us and why. »

General Hospital FrancoWatch: Just Another Candlelit New Year's Eve Alone

31 December 2009 8:00 AM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Kudos to General Hospital producers who have stretched James Franco's handful of days on set into a rich two-month arc full of intrigue and corpse art. That feat meant that in some episodes, Franco's character did not appear at all, while in others his part was limited to mysteriously brandishing a bracelet, shouting meaningfully or shaking a paint can sinisterly for his entire two minutes on screen. Some Franco fans may have felt gypped, wading through an hour of tertiary mob plot just for twenty glorious seconds of Franco...until yesterday, when General Hospital gifted us with the best possible James Franco New Year's Eve scene of all.

Hint: It involves a seductively removed napkin holder and an overplayed Temptations song. »

First Look! Julia Roberts in ‘Eat, Pray, Love’

29 December 2009 4:39 PM, PST | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

Are you as excited to see Eat, Pray, Love as we are? Check out a sneak peek from the film at HollywoodLife.com

Julia Roberts is ready to take us around the world on a journey of self-exploration, and we can barely wait until her new film, Eat, Pray, Love, is released on August 13, 2010.

Jules, 42, treads familiar ground in the rom-com – based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s 2006 memoir – as a happily married woman who decides to dump her husband , her chic New York digs and her career to explore exotic locales and, more importantly, Men across the world. Watch for her to find love (and yummy pasta) in Italy, balance in Indonesia and her spiritual center in India.

For those of you who are bored by self-love, at least you’ll love the eye candy in this flick: James Franco, 31, Billy Crudup, 41, and Javier Bardem, 40, are delightful little morsels for Julia »

2010 movie preview: 15 films you probably didn’t know you should be excited for

29 December 2009 9:37 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

A few days back John made the rather excellent list of 15 films that are sure to get audience’s pulses racing with anticipation for next year. Yet away from the marketing hype, pre-release publicity and away from the A-List names there are a slew of movies that, whilst not overly commercially minded, look like they may just be delightful. Some might be sleeper hits, some might not. Either way here is a list of 15 films, five each from the U.S., Asia and Europe, you may not have heard of to look out for next year:

The United States

The Fighter

Perhaps tainted by Christian Bale’s lost lustre or director David O. Russell’s reputation, The Fighter is receiving much less attention than I initially envisioned. Mark Wahlberg is to star in the lead role of professional boxer “Irish” Micky Ward with Bale as his half brother. The Fighter »

Are You Ready for Eddie Winslow to Reemerge as a Seductive Young and the Restless Star?

28 December 2009 2:30 PM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Daytime soaps rarely land in Movieline's wheelhouse. But the advent of James Franco's General Hospital career behooves us to acknowledge other ridiculous cast changes -- and this time, we're on the brink of a biggie. As announced in November, Darius McCrary, who has had a rough go of it in the press last we checked, is replacing Shemar Moore as Malcolm Winters on The Young and the Restless. McCrary most famously dazzled us as Eddie Winslow on Family Matters, and his new gig begins tomorrow. In the meantime, let's review his most dramatic television gig yet. »

Franco Family Takes Up Dancing Over Holidays

25 December 2009 5:26 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Scrubs star Dave Franco is spending the holiday season learning to swing dance with his actor brother James Franco.

The 24 year old goes back to his parents' home in Palo Alto, California every year to spend Christmas with his two brothers, and admits his author mum Betsy started off the festive celebrations this Thanksgiving with jazz lessons for the whole family.

He explains, "I went up north (for Thanksgiving) - I'm from Palo Alto originally. At Thanksgiving and Christmas time, it's the only time we're all guaranteed to be home. We have a very strange kind of artsy family so this time of year, we have new traditions all the time. My mum decided this year we should all go swing dancing - just the family. Of course I was the only one without a date, and so I had to dance with the teacher, who was a dude. I got a few moves but I'm a goofy dancer!" »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Five

Hippie Hippie Shake

Opens: 2010

Cast: Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella, Emma Booth, Lee Ingleby

Director: Beeban Kidron

Summary: Follows the love story of Oz editor Richard Neville and Louise Ferrier. Neville and his cohorts launch the London edition of Oz amidst the 1960s counterculture and are subsequently put on trial for distributing a sexually explicit issue.

Analysis: One of the most troubled productions in Working Title's history, 'Hippie' began development back in 1998 but failed to get beyond script stage both in 1999 and in 2002 when "Elizabeth" helmer Shekhar Kapur was attached to direct. Filming finally got underway late 2007 with director Beeban Kidron in charge and shooting seemed to proceed without issue aside from feminist author Germaine Greer being vehemently unhappy about being depicted on film.

Actually the film scored quite a bit of free press for a skinny dipping scene where full-frontal shots of actress Sienna Miller shooting the sequence »

Sir Charles To Dunk Saturday Night Live

21 December 2009 3:50 PM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

The surprising progress made during this weekend's James Franco-hosted SNL will likely not stick, because the show has invited NBA retiree and admittedly out-of-shape sports commentator Charles Barkley to headline its first show after the winter break. His January 9 episode alongside Alicia Keys will mark the star's first time back in Studio 8H since 1993, when Barkley hosted with musical guest Nirvana. Will he poke fun at his friend Tiger Woods? Probably not. Will he suffer through Kenan Thompson's impersonation of him? Sure. Will SNL ever learn to not kick off the new year with a sports star host? Unlikely. [Associated Content] »

New Images from Your Highness, The Adjustment Bureau, Repo Men, and Get Him To The Greek

21 December 2009 1:52 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Along with their great news about the release date for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, The Playlist also landed some new (albeit tiny) images for David Gordon Green’s Your Highness starring Danny McBride, James Franco, and Natalie Portman; George Nolfi’s The Adjustment Bureau starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt; Repo Men starring Liev Schreiber, Jude Law, and Forest Whitaker; and Nicholas Stoller’s Get Him to the Greek starring Russell Brand and Jonah Hill.  You can also see tiny images for some other films but those are the biggies because they’re on the top row and there’s no way you can argue with how those images were placed.  My logic is bulletproof.

The Playlist also has a couple of slightly larger images from The Adjustment Bureau and Greek and you can check them both out after the jump.

Buzz-Worthy Video: Mark Wahlberg Talks to Christmas Animals

21 December 2009 9:30 AM, PST | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Over the weekend, James Franco took the SNL stage hoping to create the "best Christmas show of all time." Well, I wouldn't say he succeeded, but we did get one funny holiday skit out of it (along with Bobby Moynihan hilariously dressed as Jersey Shore's Snookie). Andy Samberg revived his "Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals," this time talking to Christmas animals (and a snowman). It's no "Schweddy Balls," but it was definitely a fun pick-me-up to a lackluster episode, so check it out as the holiday season rages on. Also be sure to check out my holiday movie faceoff giveaway and wish your mother a Merry Christmas for me. To see the video, just read more. »

Snooki From 'Jersey Shore' Gets The Business On 'Saturday Night Live'

21 December 2009 7:05 AM, PST | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

We've talked a lot about the shortcomings of this season of "Saturday Night Live," but this past weekend's show was as funny and provocative as the series was at its peak. It was helped along by host James Franco, who has experience with comedy and improvisation. But the writing on Saturday night (December 19) was also top-notch, with a delightfully deranged digital short, the return of Andy Samberg's Mark Wahlberg impression and the funniest "Weekend Update" in ages, thanks mostly to Bobby Moynihan's turn as Snooki from "Jersey Shore."

As Snooki, Moynihan discussed "Jersey Shore" with "Weekend Update" host Seth Meyers. He was dressed in a terrible poof wig, was covered in orange make-up and was exposing his chest hair for the duration of the interview, which made for a very funny physical gag. But the jokes were great too, including the incredible kicker, which saw Snooki suggest that »

James Franco Lands an Adam Lambert Kiss on 'SNL'

21 December 2009 1:10 AM, PST | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Playing a guest host on "Saturday Night Live", James Franco channeled his Adam Lambert side on the show's December 19 episode. In a sketch titled "The Kissing Family", the 31-year-old is captured on camera making out with Will Forte, one of the show's stars who plays his grandfather.

For the sketch, Franco portrays a college student who has brought home his new girlfriend to meet his family for the first time. As the story unravels, it becomes clear that his family has a strong Public Display of Affection quality. After landing a kiss on Bill Hader who takes on his on-screen brother, the star of "Pineapple Express" went on to tongue Forte.

This man-on-man kiss isn't the first time for James Franco. He has been seen starring as Sean Penn's gay lover in the awards-winning "Milk". It is said to be a sort of parody for Lambert's controversial performance at »

'Saturday Night Live': America, it's your girl, 'Snooki'

20 December 2009 2:46 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Alright, so it wasn't really "Jersey Shore's" Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, but it was a really good impression by "Saturday Night Live's" Bobby Moynihan.

From Snooki's style to her response to the Italian-American boycott, they covered pretty much every possible absurd topic on the guidette you could think of.

Here are our fave lines from 'Snooki's' guest appearance at SNL's news desk:

On MTV blacking out the punch: "The good people at MTV wanted to make sure that it was impossible to see me getting punched in the face... unless you own a computah, a cell telephone or any channel other than MTV."

On the perfect guido: "I'm queen of the guidettes and I'm looking for my king: Italian, dahk, just muscle-ly, juice-head guido! You know, the kinda guy that works out so much, his arms are trying to escape his Armani Exchange t-shirt."

On the Italian-American protests: "Attention, »
