A 'Cheeky cockney' character actor who graced British screens for more than 60 years following his film debut in 1942. He was awarded the MBE in 1970.
Served in the RAF during World War II.
Worked his way up from newspaper boy, earning eight shillings a week, to an acting job at Elstree Studios where he made five pounds a day.
