Yolanda Foster Shops at Target, Still Has an AOL Account Despite Being Fabulous

27 March 2015 3:24 AM, PDT | Us Weekly | See recent Us Weekly news »

Yolanda Foster grew up as a successful self-made model, married former Iraqi politician turned mega Hollywood architect Mohammed Hadid, divorced, remarried current husband (and 16-time Grammy winner) David Foster, and resides in a 11,622 square-foot Malibu mansion — but according to a new profile in Dujour magazine, she’s surprisingly normal. “Yolanda shops at Target. She has an AOL account. She wears clogs from her native Holland to calm herself down when she’s nervous, and the only brand name [she] endorses in our interview is Jenga,” observed writer [...] »

‘The End of the Tour’, ’99 Homes’, ‘Goodbye to Language’ headlining Ebertfest 2015

Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Segel in “The End of the Tour”

Champaign, Illinois isn’t quite Cannes or Park City, Utah, but the film festival hosted there annually in Roger Ebert’s name is as charming as they come. Now Ebertfest, in its 17th year, has announced its lineup of films prior to its four day run in April.

It was previously announced that Jean-Luc Godard’s acclaimed Goodbye to Language 3D would be the opening night film. Now Chaz Ebert has penned a touching love letter to her late husband detailing the choices they’ve made for the festival in his absence.

Among them are James Ponsoldt’s The End of the Tour, Ramin Bahrani’s 99 Homes, Roy Andersson’s A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting On Existence, Céline Sciamma’s Girlhood, and special screenings of A Bronx Tale with Robert De Niro and the 1926 silent film The Son of the Sheik »

David Foster’s daughters are “Barely Famous” on VH1

12 March 2015 10:18 AM, PDT | ChannelGuideMag | See recent ChannelGuideMag news »

Erin and Sara Foster, stars of VH1’s new “docu-comedy” Barely Famous, might not be uber famous themselves, but as the daughters of Grammy-magnet music producer David Foster, they understand the drill. And while the pair resisted appearing with their dad, former stepmother Linda Thompson and step brothers Brody and Brandon Jenner on the ill-fated 2005 Fox reality series Princes of Malibu, they’ve found a creative  — and self-effacing — way to take part in a television genre they admit they love. “We have pretty much taken a stance of not doing any reality TV and navigating around some of those shows and not putting ourselves on … Continue reading →

3 March 2015 10:35 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

They were born and bred in Hollywood and now, sisters Erin and Sara Foster (daughters of superstar music producer David Foster) are poking fun at the reality TV genre in a parody on VH1. Barely Famous follows the duo as they navigate the celebrity-obsessed world of Los Angeles. Sara, 34 and Erin, 32, offer a tongue-in-cheek perspective in the satirical comedy series with help from celebrity pals like Kate Hudson, Nicole Richie and Jessica Alba. In the clip, Erin, who claims she is looking for a normal guy, is having drinks on a date when she gets a late night text from James Franco, »

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Recap: Run, Lisa, Run

25 February 2015 5:31 AM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

It looks like the Real Housewives are about to go on another trip. Do you know what that means? Volcanoes will erupt, tectonic plates will shift, tsunamis will swallow up small dinghies in coastal towns all over the world, Rosemary will give birth to her baby, and the seventh sign will finally be broken, leading us to one of Demi Moore’s underappreciated classics. Yes, it is going to be a disaster. Why do these ladies even go on the trips? That’s sort of like someone inviting to you to a picnic at Chernobyl. It sure sounds nice, but when you get home and you’re neon green and your hair is falling out in clumps, it’s not going to be so cute. Before we get to the trip, however, we have to get to David Foster (Wallace)’s charity event. And before we can get to that, »

Rhobh: Lisa Rinna and Kim Richards Battle on Flight to Amsterdam

25 February 2015 3:50 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Yolanda Foster surprised the The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills with a trip to Amsterdam on Tuesday, but there was turbulence on the flight that was not weather-related. "I'm so excited to bring the girls to my home country," a happy Foster said just before Kim Richards and Lisa Rinna began to yell at one another on the private plane. "Kim, are you mad at me?" Rinna asked her. "Stop talking about me," said Richards, who was still angry over Rinna's public concerns that she might be drinking due to her recent whackadoodle behavior. "I don't drink. I don't do drugs. »

How ‘Super Metroid’ channeled ‘Aliens’ and became the first feminist video game

Samus Tribute by_Wen Jr.

In his not-quite seminal but still very good 1998 essay “F/X Porn,” David Foster Wallace dissects the lasting legacy of James Cameron’s mega-blockbuster Terminator 2: Judgment Day. (Well, more accurately, he examines the enduring stain left by Cameron’s film on the modern action movie, but whatever.) The essay doesn’t offer much in the way of profundity regarding CGI-addled blockbusters or Arnold Scwarzenegger, though it does have that singular Wallace wit; the appeal of the breezy essay lies within Wallace’s digressive musings on Aliens, Cameron’s previous film, to which the writer dedicates just as many words as he does to the purported subject of the essay.

For the uninitiated, Aliens is Cameron’s lean, mean sequel to Ridley Scott’s body-horror classic Alien. An ostensible testosterone-fueled flick, replete with guns and gear and gruff military types spitting out phrases like, “Stop »

Week in Review: Sundance movies coming soon to a theater near you

30 January 2015 10:38 AM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

We’ve been relishing the chance to be in Park City again this year for Sundance, despite the fact that for the first time in the festival’s history no movies are being screened on 35mm. That said, some already incredible movies have received awards and much deserved buzz. Most notable among them is Don Hertzfeld’s animated World of Tomorrow, which won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Short Film.

But we’ve also been watching the buyers, because for those of us who couldn’t make it out to Utah this year, we have an invested interest in actually seeing these movies some day. Here’s a list of some of the more notable deals that were struck. Indiewire has a full list of films and buyers.

Critics’ Rearview: Sundance Offers Rich Diversity in 2015

30 January 2015 10:20 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Peter Debruge: Here we are, approaching the end of the Sundance Film Festival, and let me just say, having spent the last year attending festivals abroad, I miss American independent cinema, far too little of which lands overseas distribution. Sundance is the place where we can all stock up on all those squirrely, hard-to-categorize movies that come out between the blockbusters and cookie-cutter releases the rest of the year, and this year’s bounty leaves me optimistic — and for more reasons than just sheer entertainment value.

This is the most diverse Sundance lineup I can remember, featuring new films from black, Asian and Lgbt filmmakers set in their respective communities (“Dope,” “Seoul Searching” and “I Am Michael”), and while hardly a minority — except in Hollywood — a wealth of films directed by women, including the terrific, sexually liberated coming-of-age movie “The Diary of a Teenage Girl.”

But more interesting than that »

First came the Hiltons, then came the Olsens and the Jenners ... now it's all about the Hadids! Gigi, 19, and Bella, 18, are the latest sisters storming the fashion industry. Their savvy and good looks are no surprise given their impressive parentage: Yolanda Foster, a former model and current Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, and real estate developer Mohamed Hadid. Though much of the Hadid sisters' public exposure before 2014 came by way of Real Housewives appearances, last year was a breakout year for Gigi, and 2015 is shaping up to be star-making for Bella. 'Real Housewife' Yolanda Foster Has Lost the Ability to Read or Write

19 January 2015 10:34 AM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Foster, who has been battling Lyme disease for the past three years, has relapsed.

In a blog post for Bravotv.com, the reality star revealed why she has not been so active on the site. "I would like to apologize for my lousy participation in the blogging department at the moment. Although writing is usually my favorite thing to do, I unfortunately have lost the ability to do so in an intelligent matter at this time."

In the heart wrenching post, Foster said that she has "lost the ability to read, write, or even watch TV."

"It feels like someone came in and confiscated my brain and tied my hands behind my back to just watch and see life go by without me participating in it," she revealed.

Film Feature: Preview of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival

18 January 2015 8:06 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – This Thursday marks the beginning of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, and yours truly will be in attendance to cover the fest for HollywoodChicago.com. Last year, the Park City, Utah event introduced the world to its 2014-defining sensations like “Whiplash” and “Boyhood”.

Those titles followed in the paths of indie landmarks such as “sex, lies and videotape,” “Clerks,” “Hoop Dreams,” “American Movie,” “Memento,” “Frozen River,” “Winter’s Bone,” and “Fruitvale Station,” among many others.

In pursuit of new favorite films for a new year, I’ve composed a relatively solid schedule so that I can devour as much diverse Sundance goodness as possible. Narratives, documentaries, white supremacists, nasty babies, Neil Hamburger, Chiwetel Ejiofor, stolen cop cars, and much, much more are all in play. But with hopes that everything I witness is the next “Boyhood”-like zeitgeist, I’ll be sure to report back here on what’s worth, »

Sundance 2015: Most Anticipated in the Premieres Section

The Sundance Film Festival’s Premieres section is “A showcase of world premieres of some of the most highly anticipated narrative films of the coming year.”

Mississippi Grind

Written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck

From the writing and directing duo that brought us Half Nelson and It’s Kind of a Funny Story comes Mississippi Grind, starring Ryan Reynolds and Ben Mendelsohn as a pair of desperate gamblers on the road. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have thus far earned a solid indie reputation, so there’s not much reason to doubt that they’ll deliver engaging content even if one’s unsure of the acting team that’s being put to task. Reynolds’ name may suffer from overexposure in big studio flops like X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Green Lantern, whereas Mendelsohn’s growing respectability flies well below pop culture’s radar. »
