Horror Society presents the Holiday Of Horrors fest!

1 December 2009 10:45 AM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Our friends over at Horror Society are bringing yet another event to Chicago's Portage Theatre, when their Holiday Of Horrors Film Festival arrives on December 12th. Director Lewis Jackson will be in-attendance to present his 1980 classic Christmas Evil (aka You Better Watch Out!), and they'll be screening Silent Night, Deadly Night, New Years Evil, and Black Santa's Revenge. Not enough for you? How about vendors, booze, prizes, and an opportunity to get your picture taken with Satan Santa himself?

December 12, 2009 | Tickets are $10 (get yours here) | Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, Il 60641

Christmas Evil

Released in 1980 and once again we have an unstable main character who puts on the red suit and beard and gives the naughty what they deserve-and we’re not talking about lumps of coal. Arguably the best of the “Christmas Killer” movies, Christmas Evil should not be missed. This rare screening features a 35mm print from »

Badasses of Horror: Part Two

9 November 2009 6:30 AM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

See the first part of this article here.

Ellen Ripley (Alien/Aliens, 1979/86)

Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley is just hanging out on the intergalactic transport ship Nostromo, leading the often-dull life of a Space Teamster, when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, her idiot captain decides to land on the remote planet Lv-426 to investigate some stupid distress signal emanating from a crashed spaceship. Now, as we all know, responding to distress signals is one of the top five most insanely boneheaded tactical decisions any science-fiction/horror space traveler can possibly make, but this doesn’t stop Captain Numbnuts from ordering his crew to get their asses down there and dope out the spooky alien wreckage.

Of course, once they go down to investigate, some dumbass crewmember decides it would be totally hilarious to stick his face in one of the strange egglike things he finds in the smoldering wreckage of the derelict ship. »

Kristina Klebe Mash-Up Yields Zone of the Dead Footage

2 November 2009 5:10 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Here at Dread Central we love us some Kristina Klebe. Arguably she was one of the best parts of Rob Zombie's Halloween, and now that she's fighting zombies in Zone of the Dead, we couldn't be happier -- if not strangely aroused by the sight of her with a shotgun. *Ahem* ... Speaking of which, a music video mash-up featuring Kristina just popped up online, and in it you'll find some cool footage of her taking care of zombie business among other things!

Ken Foree and Klebe star in the film about a police-escorted prisoner transport supervised by Interpol that sets off to Belgrade. The route leads the transport through Pancevo, where they encounter an ecological disaster and infected people who are trying to kill them. Interpol agents Mortimer Reyes (Foree) and Mina Milius (Klebe) soon realize that their only chance for escape from the zombie hordes lies in allying with the dangerous, »

The Auteurs: George A. Romero’s Original Dead Trilogy

26 October 2009 11:02 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Night of the Living Dead For a horror film, Night of the Living Dead (1968) is set in an usual local; not Transylvania, but Pennsylvania. Almost universally panned by critics when released, the film eventually developed a cult following, playing on the midnight movie circuit for more than a decade and becoming one of the most influential horror films since Psycho. The film spawned five sequels, and innumerable remakes and clones. Often imitated, but never duplicated, Night of the Living Dead launched director George A. Romero on the path to become the king of Zombiedom. Although the word "zombie" is never used in the film, the living dead carried with them most of the characteristics to be found in later zombie movies, and pushed zombies towards taking center stage as arguably the centerpiece of popular horror. Romero has readily admitted that Herk Harvey's Carnival of Souls (1962) was a big influence »

The Monroeville Zombie Walk of 2009 and Coinciding Monroeville Zombies Museum

22 October 2009 1:19 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

A video has popped up documenting the recent Monroeville Zombie Walk, an annual event celebrating the Pittsburgh town's ties to George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, the director's classic cinematic ode equating mall culture to the undead. This year also saw a Monroeville citizen, one with a very personal connection to Romero's original Night of the Living Dead, opening a zombie museum inside that very mall. Rather awesomely, it includes "a coffin, rigged with speakers and hydraulics, to experience a ride to a cemetery and burial" that can be experienced for a decaying three bucks U.S. Progress. The video contains a chat with the museum's curator, as well as lots of decaying mall goers, and is posted below... As seen above, the museum's "Maul of Fame" was christened with the bloodied hands of actor Ken Foree, who starred in Dawn and memorably got iced by Michael Myers in »

Sitges ’09: My Sitges Story—Part 8

14 October 2009 2:37 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Saturday, October 10

One of the complaints raised at the special Fangoria 30th-anniversary panel at Spain’s Sitges international film fest (see last report here and go here for the fest’s official site) was the lack of Italian contributions to the current cinematic fright scene. The gruesome 1980s are long gone, where goremeisters such as the late Lucio Fulci ruled the scene. Italian horror directors find it nearly impossible to get their films financed these days, while the master, Dario Argento, appears to have lost his mojo (Mother Of Tears bombed in most territories, and advance buzz on Giallo remains dire).

“It’s very difficult to get horror movies made in Italy, which is why I moved to Bucharest,” says former Fango scribe Loris Curci, who graduated to producing movies in recent years. His efforts include the Ken Foree Croatian/Catalan/American zombie flick Zone Of The Dead, a Sitges premiere, »

Smash Cut to screen at the Trinity Of Terrors!

28 September 2009 3:05 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

The much-talked about H.G. Lewis-inspired Smash Cut has been added to our Fango Film Fest for the inaugural Fangoria Trinity Of Terrors taking place October 30 through November 1 at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas!

Able Whitman (David Hess - appearing at The Trinity!) is a horror-film director whose movies are panned by critics and audiences alike — until he starts killing people and using their body parts as props in his new flick.

Now, only intrepid Smash Cut. reporter April Carson (Sasha Grey) and celebrated private detective Isaac Beaumonde (Jesse Buck) stand between the demonic director and his unquenchable thirst for butchery at 24 frames per second!

Inspired by the career and filmography of Herschell Gordon Lewis, Smash Cut is a gore-splattered satire of the blood sport known as filmmaking.

This director's cut bleeds!

Smash Cut joins our Film Fest program which will be held in the Brenden Theatres inside the Palms Casino. »
