Mick Foley Not Shortlisted For WWE Hall of Fame 2012

30 December 2011 1:49 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Despite his recent return to WWE television and his regular house show appearances, as of right now Mick Foley is not expected to be a contender for the 2012 WWE Hall of Fame. Vince McMahon is currently considering other candidates and although he has been known to change his mind on such issues, Foley looks as far away from the Hall of Fame as he ever has.

A ‘key WWE insider’ told WrestleZone exclusively yesterday;

Mick Foley is not high on Vince’s list for 2012.”

“The writers got to pitch their choices for the Hall of Fame, and Vince seems to have several people in mind already this year,”

So far only legendary Mexican wrestler Mil Máscaras has been officially confirmed for the Hall of Fame and his induction was announced at the WWE tour of Mexico earlier this year. He will be inducted by his nephew Alberto Del Rio.

WWE Champion Cm Punk & Artist Jill Thompson To Work On New Marvel Comic Series?

30 December 2011 12:53 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Current WWE Champion Cm Punk and comic book artist Jill Thompson could be about to collaborate on a new comic book series together if recent back-and-forth Twitter messages are anything to go by. Punk of course is a known comic book fan and is regularly tweeting about the stuff he is reading and often comes to the ring quoting the immortal line from The Thing – “It’s clobberin’ time!”.

The Twitter back and forth started when Jill Thompson, a known wrestling fan who has created attire designs for Daniel Bryan and worked illustrations for Mick Foley in the past, was asked in a tweet by John M. Coker as to whether she had ever attempted to hire Punk to write a series she could draw;

Punk and Thompson tweeted that it was a great idea. The WWE wrestler even said to talk to him after the New Year “to make it happen. »

Shaquille O’Neal vs The Big Show at WWE Wrestlemania 28 Being Discussed

22 December 2011 1:48 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Shaquille O’Neal revealed on the Abe Kanan show yesterday that he is in talks with the WWE for a big marquee match at Wrestlemania 28 against The Big Show.

The biggest event on the wrestling calendar will take place April 1st, 2012 at the Sun Field Stadium in Miami, Florida and it is believed that Vince McMahon has been looking for a big celebrity to compete in a match that will fill out the card.

Of course a potential Shaquille O’Neal vs The Big Show match at Wrestlemania brings memories of the match Floyd Mayweather Jr and The Big Show had almost four years ago at Wrestlemania 24 that drew huge business after large media attention. Despite not being the main event of the show, in that particular year no match was more hyped or sold more buys. O’Neal vs The Big Show, while it won’t do as much »

WWE Raw Review 12/12/11 – Slammy Awards Show & Kane Returns

13 December 2011 11:08 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The Big News: A masked Kane returned to chokeslam John Cena, Cm Punk won the superstar of the year slammy award and Triple H emerged after a two month hiatus to hype up his TLC match with Kevin Nash.

In a Nutshell: The Slammy Awards somehow ended up being a reminder of the worse things of the year instead of the best.

A Slammy Award video package opened the show which showed moments of previous ceremonies including some brief footage of Owen Hart’s hillarious victory celebration on the night when he was actually supposed to be handing out the award…. “I did it again… wooooooo!!!!” That genuinely was hysterical.

What was not so hysterical however was the segment which opened this three hour edition of Raw which saw Hornswoggle and Booker T present the slammy for the “tell me I did not just see that award”. Jr won for »

"The Daily Show" Greatest Gay Hits Volume 2

5 December 2011 5:01 AM, PST | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Back in October of 2007 we put together a compendium of what we considered the greatest gay moments from The Daily Show's video archives. Everything from Jon Stewart sparring with Bill Bennett over gay marriage in 2006 all the way back to a hilarious 1999 Boy George interview by Beth Littleford.

But when it comes to Lgbt issues, Jon and his band of fake news reporters were just getting started. After all, in recent years they've had Dadt, Prop 8, Ken Reker, Nom and Maggie Gallagher and more to skewer.

Here are some of the best and most pointedly gay-supportive Daily Show moments since 2007. Did we miss something substantive? Feel free to add your favorites to the comments!

Interview with Mike Huckabee, Pt. 2

Dec. 9, 2008

Jon Stewart continues racking up the gay ally points as he nails just what's so offensive about opposition to marriage equality based on "faith." Oh, Stewart starts out nice and finishes nice, »

WWE Smackdown Review 29/11/11 – Mark Henry vs Daniel Bryan Steel Cage Match

30 November 2011 1:28 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Tonight’s WWE Super SmackDown live show came from Charlotte, North Carolina with snow falling from the rafters. Mick Foley is on the stage dressed as Santa Claus and reveals that he is a huge fan of Christmas, even if we are still in November and four weeks away from the jolly event. Foley hypes up the World Heavyweight Title Steel Cage match tonight and announces a ‘Miracle on 34th Street Fight’ and a “All You Want For Christmas Battle Royal’. The winner of the Battle Royal will get their special wish granted by Santa. Foley said that on Raw he promised us no Michael Cole but Cole’s legal team and iron clad contract got him on but it didn’t stop Foley being able to dress him like a goof. Cole comes out dressed as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and isn’t happy.

WWE Raw Review 28/11/11 – Cm Punk Retains, John Cena On Piper’s Pit

29 November 2011 9:39 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE Raw Review -  28/11/11

The Big News: Cm Punk defeated Alberto Del Rio to defend the WWE title, Roddy Piper tried to slap some emotion out of John Cena on a special edition of The Piper’s Pit and Daniel Bryan shut up Mark Henry with a kick to show his mettle for their upcoming World Heavyweight Championship Steel Cage match tonight on Smackdown.

In a Nutshell:  A good night for pure wrestling fans with nearly 40 minutes of in ring action.

Piper’s Pit with John Cena opened the show. Piper talked about how his career was defined by crowd energy whether they cheered him and made him do good things or booed him and made him do bad things. With that in mind he called out John Cena and showed him the difference between the positive reception that greeted the names he dropped in Austin, Bret and The Rock »

WhatCulture Christmas Gift Guide 2011 Part 3: Games, Consoles & Merch

27 November 2011 3:51 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

At any time of year, video games are big business – they are arguably the only marketplace that remains intact (and in fact increasing in sales) despite the recession, regardless of what is happening to certain retailers like Game’s value. And while the sales window for most titles is primarily in the first few days and weeks immediately after release, Christmas offers gamers the opportunity to ask for titles that they missed first time round, especially in terms of titles released in the ridiculously busy November release period.

So with that in mind, the third part of our 2011 Christmas Gift Guide is dedicated to the world of video games, including games, consoles, peripherals and a select few merchandise lines to make your Christmas that little bit more entertaining. Hold tight for a selection of the best games of the year, as well as a number that accommodate certain specialist requirements and gamers. »

10 Choices To Break The Undertaker’s Streak at Wrestlemania 28

27 November 2011 1:37 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Its that time of the year again. Soon we’ll be getting ready for the Royal Rumble and once That is over we’ll be on the Road to Wrestlemania, though it’s already started a little earlier this time out with the John Cena/The Rock teaming at the Survivor Series to build up their Wrestlemania 28 main event.

Every year now, along with the Wrestlemania main event, we’re guaranteed at least one other huge match in the form of the Undertaker defending his undefeated streak. The record currently stands at 19-0, making this year his chance to go 20 matches without a loss. This year, we really have no way of telling what kind of physical shape Undertaker is in, since he hasn’t had a single match since last year’s encounter against Triple H so it’s a hard one to call. But recently Wrestling Observer reported »

WWE 12 – Full Roster Of Over 75 Wrestlers Revealed

21 November 2011 12:14 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE 12 will finally hit stores on Tuesday (in the U.S.) and on Friday (in the U.K.) and after some stellar reviews in the last few days, I don’t remember being this excited about a wrestling video game in years. IGN’s 9.0 scoring review mentioned the gameplay was ‘No Mercy like’ several times and there is actually a combat system here that makes sense and isn’t just a flashy presentation with no substance to the graphics. But then they still have the graphics and all the cool modes and the first time, Thq’s video game franchise feels like it belongs on the shelf alongside the mastered EA sports franchises of FIFA and Madden. IGN overall called it ‘amazing’.

Over the past few months, Thq have teased us as to what wrestlers will be included in the game and now on the eve of release we have a final figure. »

WWE Survivor Series 2011 Predictions – The Rock & John Cena vs Miz & R-Truth

20 November 2011 2:49 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE returns to Madison Square Garden tonight for the 25th anniversary of one of it’s primary A-show PPV’s WWE Survivor Series, headlined by The Rock’s first match in seven and a half years, teaming up with the most popular superstar in the company and his opponent at next year’s Wrestlemania, John Cena.

The build up to the PPV as a whole hasn’t been too bad and at least we have six solid matches that have been booked ahead of time and each have their own story to tell. This is nice to see as there’ll be a helluva lot of casual fans buying this PPV to see The Rock and John Cena team, so the storylines need to be strong on the other bouts to retain them as viewers. In some ways the number of buys the PPV has tonight is irrelevant except to »

WWE 12: Macho Man Randy Savage Trailer

18 November 2011 2:30 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Ooooooohhhh Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

It had to happen, and it was a rumour we have been expecting around these parts for some time now, but that doesn’t make the fact that Macho Man Randy Savage has been added to the roster for WWE 12 any less exciting, or appropriate given the tragic events that saw the loss of his life earlier this year.

Here’s the great man’s trailer:

In the past couple of days we have already seen the addition of Mick Foley as the second Legend in the 3rd Dlc Pack for WWE ’12, and yesterday Thq confirmed that he would be joined by the “Macho Man” Randy Savage, in a move that will surely appease those fans who have vocally and vociferously campaigned to have him included in Thq’s flag-ship series for years.

The announcement also confirmed that Savage will be decked out in his classic WrestleMania VII attire, »

12 Reasons Why WWE 12 Will Be Better Than Smackdown vs Raw

17 November 2011 3:45 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

In just over a week, the rebranded WWE 12 will take to the shelves, replacing once and for all the now defunct Smackdown vs Raw title as Thq’s flagship wrestling property. While the developers are keen to promote WWE12 as an evolutionary, rather than revolutionary step, the list of developments and new features this year looks massive compared to the step-ups between earlier franchise additions, and it is perhaps better to think of WWE 12 as a new start entirely.

Fans will buy it, and those pre-disposed to snear at the “fake” sport (I suggest those nay-sayers try suplexing Mark Henry to test their philosophy properly) will probably stay away, but for the first time in a long while for a wrestling title, WWE 12 has a genuine broad appeal. Personally, I count myself as something of a lapsed fan – I cling to the classic eras, adding a rose-tinted gloss to the »

Exclusive: Mick Foley Interview

15 November 2011 4:20 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Last Friday, well before last night’s Raw appearance and just before his stand-up tour came to an end with a double showing at London’s Leicester Square theatre – which sold out within a day of the tickets being released – myself and Michael Atkinson (who definitely has a future of looking like Foley on its way) found ourselves sat within a braying crowd.

“Foley! Foley! Foley! Foley!”

A carcophany of appreciative noise for the large man currently standing on the stage in front of us in red flannel. And he’s lapping it up, playing off the crowd’s reaction in mock-humility, and when he decides to get a hold on the room, he doubtlessly sees hundreds of beaming faces looking up at him. Most have never been this close to Foley: this 700 hundred or so seat venue in the heart of Newcastle is about as intimate as it comes for a WWE star, »

WWE Raw Review 14/11/2011 – The Rock & Mick Foley Return

15 November 2011 11:03 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The Big News:  Mick Foley returned and fell victim to a rock bottom after a this is your life segment with John Cena. In the main event, Cena and Rock both took out Miz and Truth after a verbal confrontation but there was still dissent in the ranks as the pair insulted one another beforehand and Rock disrupted Cena’s attempt to plant Miz with his finisher. Meanwhile Del Rio earnt a pinfall over Punk in a world champions vs challengers tag match before locking him in the crossarmbar straight afterwards and the members of Team Orton and Team Barrett got involved in a mass scrap following a singles match between the Survivor Series team captains.

In a nutshell:  Whilst Raw was rocked, the crediblity of Miz and Truth hit rock bottom

WWE 12 Mick Foley Trailer – Dlc This December

15 November 2011 9:59 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

We’ve actually suspected this was on the cards for a little while but Thq have now confirmed that former multiple time WWE Champion and the “King of Hardcore” Mick Foley has been added to the WWE 12 roster as a playable character. Though only as a Dlc in December They also have a trailer confirming his addition to the game.

The timing on this announcement is apt with Foley making his return to WWE television on Raw last night and giving John Cena the ‘This Is Your Life’ treatment and receiving a Rock Bottom from his former tag team partner The Rock (or in other words, punishment for spending the last few years in Tna).

Stay tuned at WhatCulture! for more articles on WWE 12 coming your way and we actually have an exclusive interview with Foley on the horizon. We met with the nicest guy in wrestling last Friday during »
