On Sunday, July 15, Documentary Channel presents the U.S. TV premiere of "Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good," a documentary from director Jonathan Flora that follows "CSI: NY" star Gary Sinise and his band -- named for his wounded-veteran character Lt. Dan Taylor in the 1994 movie "Forrest Gump" -- as they hit the road to benefit U.S. troops, veterans and their families.
"It's the first time it's made it to cable television," Sinise tells Zap2it. "It had a DVD release and an online release, and it's nice that, a year later, it's coming back on Documentary Channel. We're all very happy about it."
For those new to his off-screen efforts, Sinise says, "This is a film that documents some of the support work that I've been doing for the military over the years. Flora spent a good 18 months, upwards of two years on and off, at various events and concerts,...

Gary Sinise has played Det. Mac Taylor on CSI: New York for seven seasons. He co-founded the esteemed Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago when he was only 18 years old, directed and starred in a sterling cinematic adaptation of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, and played larger-than-life politicians Harry Truman and George Wallace in award-winning television movies. But chances are, you know him first and last as Lieutenant Dan. His Oscar-nominated role as a disabled and angry Vietnam War veteran in 1994’s Forrest Gump resonated with audiences, and when he began visiting soldiers with the Uso, everyone recognized him immediately as that character.

Title: Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good Director: Jonathan Flora Starring: Gary Sinise, Kimo Williams (Note: This film is being exclusively released via the official web site on July 4th.) A solid documentary needs to encompass certain criteria to attract and maintain the viewer’s attention (sounds like modern-day sex). The footage compiled should be informative, present any pertinent background info, and have some sort of counter-argument; since these pieces are usually trying to get a point across. That said, the latter point does not apply to “Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good.” Why? Simply because there is no need to argue about something that is infallible. At the...

On Monday, July 4, between the hot dogs and the fireworks, you can take a trip around the world, hear some rock 'n' roll and visit our fighting men and women, without ever leaving your poolside chair.
That's the day that "Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good" premieres online at www.LtDanBandMovie.com.
Filmmaker Jonathan Flora, himself a veteran of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division, has chronicled the travels of the cover band led by actor Gary Sinise of CBS' "CSI: NY," as it tours the world entertaining America's armed forces and first responders.
"You don't go to 'Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good' and go to a major gun battle or anything like that," Sinise tells Zap2it. "We visit bases, and we visit troops and families, firefighters, and all kinds of different people.
"I'm inspired by these people all the time, and I know what...

Some people crave the spotlight with the things they do in life, while others tend to avoid it. Gary Sinise is the latter in this case, but Jonathan Flora passionately felt Sinise deserved a token of recognition for his tremendous act of patriotism. After viewing “Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good,” one couldn’t agree more. Now the first name you probably recognize. Sinise is an accomplished actor who was nominated for an Oscar thanks to his combustible, yet endearing, performance as Lt. Dan in “Forrest Gump.” He’s won an Emmy, Golden Globe, and is constantly lauded for many of his efforts in the film & television. Perhaps his biggest...

New York -- Ever since the Sept. 11 attacks moved him to appreciate members of the military more than ever, "CSI: NY" star Gary Sinise has been on a mission to increase awareness and appreciation of their contributions to this country.
It's a mission that has taken him to Iraq four times since 2003 and Afghanistan as well as military bases in Europe, Asia and the U.S. And it's one that is chronicled in an hourlong documentary narrated by Sinise and airing at 9 p.m. Saturday on the Fox News Channel.
Sinise is well known for his Oscar-nominated role as wounded Vietnam War vet Lt. Dan in "Forrest Gump." He worries that the contributions of Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans will be ignored or forgotten, much like it was for Vietnam veterans.
"We have volunteer defenders who are out there in dangerous places, and their families worry about them," Sinise told The Hollywood Reporter.
