Triple Threat for the WWE Championship set for No Mercy with Aj Styles defending against Dean Ambrose and a returning John Cena

14 September 2016 1:27 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

John Cena returned to Smackdown Live last night following his defeat against Aj Styles at Summerslam, and has already put himself in the title hunt.

Styles defeated Dean Ambrose for the WWE Championship last Sunday at Backlash [read our review here], and he will now defend the title against the former champion and John Cena at No Mercy. Should Cena win, it will be his sixteenth championship reign, tying the record of the legendary Ric Flair.

In the main event of the show, Ambrose teamed with Cena to take on Styles and Intercontinental Champion The Miz, which ended when Cena pinned The Miz after an AA. Once the match was over, however, Ambrose laid out Cena with Dirty Deeds which the crowed booed heavily.

5 Times WWE Screwed Cm Punk After He Quit

12 September 2016 1:15 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

In the hours before the 27th January 2014 episode of Raw, Cm Punk told Vince McMahon he was leaving WWE. And true to his word, he hasn’t gone back…yet. This is wrestling after all. Ric Flair’s had more retirements than all rappers from the last two decades combined.

Since Punk walked out, though, WWE has gone out of its way to screw him over. Here are five of them.

5. To Be The McMahon, Chicago…

The 29th September 2014 episode of Raw took place in Cm Punk’s hometown of Chicago. This is how Stephanie McMahon responded to the crowd’s deafening ‘Cm Punk’ chants with her in-ring promo:

“I always wonder, ‘why?’…like, why do these people cheer for quitters? And I understand. It’s because they can relate. Because they’re quitters themselves. They would rather just quit when life gets tough. They would rather quit than fail, »

5 Things Happening in the World of Pro Wrestling

2 September 2016 9:21 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

1.Sad news this week in the world of pro wrestling when it was announced that legendary performer Mr. Fuji, Harry Fujiwara, passed away at the age of 83. Mr. Fuji had a long stay in the business, first as an in ring performer, collecting many tag team championships around the world, than as a manager of such acts as Demolition and The Powers of Pain. He also had a reputation as a ribber, someone in the business who pulls pranks to lighten the mood. Hearing a couple of the ribs he pulled off as they were discussed on the Eric Bischoff podcast when he interviewed Hulk Hogan, I have to say I am glad I never made that guy angry. Hide your cats! (Listen to the podcast to find out why.) Mr. Fuji was a legend and will be missed.

5 Things Happening in the World of Pro Wrestling

26 August 2016 2:36 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

1.Adam Cole came out victorious, as predicted by me last week, at Death Before Dishonor. It’s a well deserved victory for an up and coming star. What that victory, it caps Ring of Honor’s first real attempt at an episodic story line. One legitimate issue I’ve had with Ring of Honor television is the fact that apart from some rudimentary nods to their Pay Per Views, the shows have been random matches that have no real meaning. Wrestling is story telling. If we wanted to see two guys, or ladies, fight, we’d watch Mma. While the story was spotty, the fact they found a way to keep us viewed to the screen every week is a step in the right direction if the company hopes to expand. One bit of advice I have for Ring of Honor. Get Steve Corino back on color commentary! You have »

Dana White -- Vince McMahon's a 'F***ing Maniac' ... But I Respect Him

As Larry Wilmore Leaves Late Night, TV Loses a Singular Voice

18 August 2016 6:31 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Larry Wilmore says he long harbored the thought his “Nightly Show” might come to an end in ten years, not later this evening. When he signs off for the last time from Comedy Central around midnight tonight, something else will also cease and desist.

For approximately 20 months, Wilmore and his staff have cultivated a unique voice among the TV industry’s ever-increasing number of wee-hours talk-fests. Where many of the late-night hosts seek to entertain, Wilmore always hoped to make viewers just a little uncomfortable. The clocks on his set ran backwards. The graphics that accompanied his riffs and rants appeared at the lower bottom left of the screen, invoking a sort of topsy-turvy feeling among fans.

“Nightly,” you see, was always supposed to examine what it might feel like to be down even when the rest of the world might be up. The idea was to shine a light on the plight of classes of people »

King Of The Ring Returning?

Our top story today is Ric Flair admitting he should never have gone to Tna, but first – are WWE bringing back one of its ‘Big Five’ PPVs?

You know King of the Ring? The old wrestling tournament which, if you won, you had to walk around wearing a crown and pretending to be an actual king. It worked wonders for the most recent winners, Sheamus in 2010 and Bad News Barrett last year.

I’m being sarcastic.

Sasha Banks Statement

After their show-stealing match last week, the women opened Raw. In a great little exchange, Charlotte called Sasha Banks a ‘one night stand’ champion. The Boss replied with, “honey, you’re the daughter of Ric Flair. If it wasn’t for a one night stand, you wouldn’t be here.” Pretend I’m dropping a mic right now.

Chris Jericho came out to defend Charlotte, so Enzo Amore (without Big Cass) came down to support Sasha/hit on Sasha. I was ready to hate this, but the »

The WWE Brand Split: Who Will Be the Top Star of Each Brand?

15 July 2016 9:34 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

With the WWE once again trying to pull off a successful brand split, separating the entire WWE roster between Raw and Smackdown, the question becomes who will be on which show. More specifically, who will be the top man for each brand? It may not be who you think.

Like him or not, John Cena has been the biggest name in World Wrestling Entertainment for a decade. He’s a 15-time champion and will probably end up breaking Ric Flair’s record of 16 championships. However, over the last two years, WWE CEO and God, Mr. Vincent Kennedy McMahon has been determined to push his pet project Roman Reigns to the moon, making him the new face of the company. Reigns has become a three-time champion in less than a year. Rumor had it (until recently, anyway) that he was set to win a fourth belt at Battleground.

Movie Review – Miscounduct (2016)

24 June 2016 3:15 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Misconduct, 2016.

Directed by Shintaro Shimosawa.

Starring Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Julia Stiles and Alice Eve.

Synopsis:

A hotshot lawyer takes on a corrupt pharmaceutical kingpin and winds up neck deep in a murky world of dodgy dealings and double crosses.

Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins starring in a late-night potboiler complete with a swirling, string-heavy score, sexed-up femme fatales and a terminally-ill Korean hitman – what’s not to love? For starters big Al and uncle Tony aren’t really the stars.

That questionable honour goes to Transformers veteran Josh Duhamel, here playing an ambitious young lawyer whose perfect hair hasn’t stopped his marriage to Alice Eve from hitting the rocks. Her role is restricted to chopping lettuce and glowering, so it doesn’t really surprise when he gets a call from a beautiful ex (Malin Akerman) and decides to take the bait.

WWE rolls out it’s most “extreme” PPV of the year, and it’s the second one of the “new era”…

What have we learned from the New Era of WWE (other than that they love to say that phrase over and over again?). Well it has brought in some much needed new blood to the main roster, and it’s presented us with a fairly decent card for our first A-Show of the New Era. It’s Gimmick Match-a-Mania!
