The next three years will see the theatrical release of no fewer than eight superhero films. Chris Nolan's trilogy gets a third film with The Dark Knight Rises, Superman is set to return to the big screen under the stewardship of Zack Snyder, and Green Lantern is heading for theaters next year. Meanwhile, over at Marvel, we have Thor to look forward to, along with a third Iron Man, Captain America: The First Avenger…and an ensemble Avengers film to be helmed by Joss Whedon. There's also talk of an 'Antman' film, about which we've reported here before, and features for other lesser known characters. Over at Sony, the 'Spider-Man' franchise is being rebooted, starring Andrew Garfield in the title role.
At the same time, we've had an assortment of hero-esque films in recent years such as Unbreakable (admittedly that was a while ago) and Kick-Ass.
