He is known as the first director to apply chroma key (aka green screen) technology in his Cher Specials. His prodigy David Grossman went on to become a leading TV director, as he is co-head director of Desperate Housewives with Larry Shaw. Killed on February 22, 1984 when his helicopter collided with two cables supported by 150 foot tall twin towers in Thousand Oaks, California. It then went out of control and crashed in a 15 foot deep drainage ditch and burned. He had been cited two days earlier by the NTSB for "careless and reckless operation of an aircraft."
