NEW YORK -- Discovery Channel will premiere its new miniseries The Battle for Rome on Nov. 5, with the six-hour docudrama airing on two consecutive Sundays. Battle follows the rise and fall of the Roman empire, with its first three hours chronicling the reigns of Tiberius, Caesar and Nero, while the following Sunday focuses on Vespasian, Constantine and then the fall of the empire. The BBC-Discovery Channel co-production is executive produced by Gaynelle Evans and was filmed in Bulgaria, Morocco and Tunisia. It stars James D'Arcy as Tiberius, Michael Sheen as Nero, Peter Firth as Vespasian and David Threlfal as Constantine, among others. Another new series, Surgery Saved My Life, will debut Nov. 30 and run for 10 weeks. Discovery general manager Jane Root said the initial order was for six episodes but it was extended for another four. »
