[Review] Buddymoon

30 June 2016 7:38 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

When Flula Borg showed up in the Pitch Perfect 2 trailer I found myself smiling at his success. It was a cameo keen to capitalize on his YouTube DJ fame and unabashedly broken English Chatty Cathy vibe, but it was studio film exposure nonetheless. This cemented the fact that I had become a fan of this crazy German and as such jumped at the chance to see how he’d do as co-lead and co-writer of his own vehicle. Just as the prospect interested me, however, it’ll surely infuriate others. Flula’s shtick is not universally palatable and Buddymoon does sink or swim depending on your enjoyment of it. But that’s okay. This thing was shot in ten days amongst friends. It’s not trying to take the world by storm.

The comedy stars Flula and real life BFF4ever (I don’t know if this is totally »

21 May 2016 4:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

In this edition of The Week in Trailers, we’ve got new trailers for Star Trek Beyond, Ghostbusters, Sausage Party and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, as well as debut trailers for Trainspotting 2 and more…

Well kick things off this week with Danny Boyle announcing that production had started on his sequel to 1994’s Trainspotting with this debut trailer. Not really much to see here from the movie, but it’s enough to whet your appetite before Renton and crew head back to the big screen…

…Moving over to Paul Feig’s reboot of Ghostbusters and Sony Pictures released the second trailer for the movie as well as a new International trailer. It’s fair to say that the Internet reacted very badly to the first trailer, but this one has gone down slightly better. With the movie less than two months away from release, it seems surprising that this »

When David (David Giuntoli) is left by his fiancé just days before the wedding, Flula (Flula Borg), his relentlessly upbeat best man, insists that the pair go on David’s previously planned honeymoon together: a seven-day backpacking trip through the breathtaking mountains of Oregon. On the trail, the two friends cross paths with a conspiracy theorist (Brian T. Finney), a friendly backpacker (Claire Coffee), and a bloodthirsty predator (an actual wolf), while the unrelenting trek tests their friendship and their lives.

Their adventures are bookended with passages from William Clark’s diary describing his friendship with Meriwether Lewis and the terrain they crossed during their expedition, giving David and Flula’s relationship a sense of place in the »

Big Names On "Twin Peaks" Cast List Of 217

25 April 2016 9:43 AM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The new "Twin Peaks" isn't slated to debut on Showtime until 2017, but a flurry of speculation about it happened last week with a tweet from Go For Locations indicating that filming had wrapped on the "first two seasons" of the series.

The episode count for the David Lynch-directed series was always in question, but that tweet suggested we'd be getting even more episodes than originally planned. Said tweet has since been deleted, so we'll have to wait to see how that pans out.

in the meantime in more official news, Showtime, Lynch and Mark Frost has released the official cast list for the new series with a whopping 217 names across the various episodes - a list that includes some real surprise big name inclusions such as Monica Bellucci, Michael Cera, Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Eddie Vedder, Ashley Judd, Ernie Hudson, Jim Belushi, Richard Chamberlain, Laura Dern, »

Film Review: ‘Honey Buddies’

4 February 2016 8:47 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Winner of the audience award for narrative features at Slamdance, “Honey Buddies” is nevertheless a pretty flimsy indie buddy comedy that plays like a junior edition of “A Walk in the Woods.” Its laugh quotient will depend primarily on the viewer’s reaction to Flula Borg, a YouTube star whose Hans & Franz/wild-and-crazy-guy shtick here stretches pretty thin over nearly 80 minutes. On the plus side, documentarian and music-video helmer Alex Simmons does an ace job of packaging thin material in this feature debut; when the comedy falls flat, there’s always spectacular Oregon beautifully shot in widescreen to look at. Digital platforms seem the likeliest berth for an enterprising if formulaic exercise that lacks the marquee names or novel hook to tempt much big-screen exposure beyond additional fest dates.

David (David Giuntoli) is a professional actor thrown into a tailspin when his fiancee cancels their wedding plans at the last minute. »
