Before long, Adam’s caught between two ruthless players who’ll stop at nothing to win.
The movie also stars Julian McMahon »
In the corporate espionage thriller, Adam Cassidy is a pawn between two corporate bigwigs of opposing telecommunication companies.
The story is based off of Joseph Finder’s best-selling novel “Paranoia.” In this film, director Robert Luketic assembled a very good cast that comprised of Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, Amber Heard and Liam Hemsworth as the lead character, Adam Cassidy.
Latino-Review sat down with Luketic for an exclusive interview on press day earlier this month. We talked a lot of about the current events with privacy laws, Internet oversharing and biometrics. There were also movie discussions about the cast, location and certain production challenges such as re-starting the film production of Hemsworth needed to work on “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”
“Paranoia” is in theaters today.

Latino-Review: What attracted you to this project?
Robert Luketic: I fell in love with the script. »

"Paranoia" is the perfect name for a thriller about how our smart phones are outsmarting us. A star vehicle for "the other Hemsworth" ("Hungers Games'" Liam, not brother Thor, um -- Chris), it features a couple of chewy scenes pitting Harrison Ford against Gary Oldman.
Sadly, it is as slow, slick and superficial as the director of "21" and "Killers" can make it.
Hemsworth is Adam Cassidy, a low-level apps innovator bribed and blackmailed into corporate espionage by one cell phone mogul -- Oldman -- into stealing from his old mentor, another mogul (Ford).
Amber Heard is the dishy marketing guru Adam must betray. Richard Dreyfuss is the sickly father always dozing through ballgames who is the reason Adam is desperate for cash. Dad wakes up long enough to ask, "You want to tell me what's going on?"
The story, based on a Joseph Finder novel, takes a very long time to get up to speed. »
"Paranoia," based on a novel by Joseph Finder, resembles the template for early John Grisham films or for Oliver Stone's "Wall Street," stories in which the young hungry guy who wants to make a name for himself falls under the scrutiny of an older mentor figure who then tempts them down the path of wrongdoing, ultimately leading to a moral crisis for the lead. As directed by Robert Luketic, "Paranoia" is professional in every way, but there's no pulse to it. It is entirely adequate, livened up only by a few supporting turns. Part of the problem is Liam Hemsworth, who »

Genre movies often get described as disposable, but something as paper-thin as Paranoia isn’t even sturdy enough to warrant such a dismissive description. Based on Joseph Finder’s 2004 novel, this corporate thriller radiates noir-ish style so innocuously that it barely registers. People’s lives are put in danger, our main character runs the risk of losing his soul for his career aspirations, and yet nothing feels particularly urgent. In six months, you’ll catch 30 minutes of this movie on an airplane, be mildly engaged and then forget all about it for the rest of your life. »

Director Robert Luketic’s high stakes thriller, Paranoia, explores a deadly world of greed and deception in which two powerful, dueling global tech billionaires (Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman) with a complicated past will stop at nothing to destroy each other. An ambitious young superstar (Liam Hemsworth) becomes trapped in their dangerous game of corporate espionage only to realize that he’s in far too deep for them to let him walk away. Opening August 16th, the film also stars Gary Oldman, Amber Heard, Lucas Till, Embeth Davidtz, Julian McMahon, Josh Holloway and Richard Dreyfuss. At the film’s recent press day, Luketic, Ford, Hemsworth, Heard and Till talked about updating the film adaptation based on the New York Times bestseller by Joseph Finder, what drew them to their characters, why the film’s underlying themes of connectivity, personal privacy and liberty are so relevant today, how the value of »

Director Robert Luketic’s thriller “Paranoia” has a host of problems, but the biggest seems to be that no one in it is nearly paranoid enough. This is a film in which titans of industry discuss nefarious world takeover schemes with the discretion of Bond villains, tech whizzes work on top-secret military projects in the middle of dive bars, and corporate henchmen chase targets through crowded restaurants with guns drawn to deliver messages most people would send via text. Indifferently made and nearly tension-free, this Liam Hemsworth starrer should generate moderate opening weekend B.O.; after that, it would be well advised to look over its shoulder.
Inhabiting a strange simulacrum of modern-day New York where Brooklyn is still unfashionable, Silicon Valley companies are headquartered in Lower Manhattan and nightclub doormen profess a “no hipsters” entrance policy, Hemsworth’s oft-shirtless protagonist, Adam Cassidy, is an entry-level programmer at a multinational tech company, »
