Personal friend and one time employee of William Randolph Hearst.
His whimsical drawings for Hearst's newspapers appealed to both adults and children.
Would sign his drawings "Childe Harold".
His country home in the Figueroa Mountains near Los Olivos, California became a popular meeting place for writers and actors.
Would rarely travel to New York, usually only to attend a premier of his latest play.
Greatest hits were "Wedding Bells" and "Twin Beds", the latter in collaboration with Margaret Mayo.
Was also a successful Southern California real estate developer.
Wife Isobel Osborne was a step-daughter of Robert Louis Stevenson.
