Margaret Cho: ‘If Trump becomes president, the whole world’s in big trouble’

The comic on working with Tina Fey, the generosity of Robin Williams and how Us politics got scary

Are you a fan of British comedy?

Hell yeah. I’m a massive fan of Frankie Boyle. There’s no true American equivalent. British comedy goes a lot harder and deeper. Frankie’s an angry voice for peace, which is a great position. Gina Yashere has done shows with me because I’m keen to introduce her to an American audience. I also love Stephen K Amos and I’m always begging Paul Foot to come over.

In your new show, you refer to Joan Rivers and Robin Williams as your “comedy parents”. What was your relationship?

I used to perform at the same San Francisco comedy club as Robin, when I was still a teenager and he was a big star. I learned so much from him. His death was hard for the community. »

'Knight of Cups' Trailer #2 Has Christian Bale in an Existential Crisis

24 November 2015 11:26 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last December, just months before its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, the first trailer was released for Knight of Cups, the latest from director Terrence Malick. We haven't heard anything about this mysterious project since then, but today, Broad Green Pictures has released the second trailer, which only features a few brief new shots that weren't included in the first trailer, amounting to roughly 10 seconds of new footage. Unfortunately, these never-before-seen moments don't give us any added insight into this story.

Once there was a young prince whose father, the king of the East, sent him down into Egypt to find a pearl. But when the prince arrived, the people poured him a cup. Drinking it, he forgot he was the son of a king, forgot about the pearl and fell into a deep sleep. Rick's (Christian Bale) father used to read this story to him as a boy. »

Disney's 'Zootopia' Trailer #2 Takes Hopps and Wilde to the Dmv

23 November 2015 9:51 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last week, Walt Disney Animation Studios unveiled a new poster for Zootopia, which featured both of the main characters, rookie cop Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and con artist Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman). Today, the studio has released a new trailer, which showcases one of the stumbling blocks Judy runs into on her latest case: the Department of Mammal Vehicles (Dmv), which is run entirely by sloths. Anyone who has spent time at the human Dmv can relate to the agonizingly slow pace of this facility, as Nick introduces Judy to the "fastest" sloth at the Dmv, Flash (voiced by Raymond S. Persi).

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it's a melting pot where animals from every environment live together-a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, »

Ratings: NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ Spikes With Adele, Matthew McConaughey

22 November 2015 11:08 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The combination of Matthew McConaughey as host and Adele as musical guest helped NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” post its second highest overnight rating of the past 10 months — behind only the Nov. 7 telecast featuring Donald Trump —and stood as the evening’s top-rated program.

According to Nielsen, “Saturday Night Live” averaged a 4.6 household rating/12 share in the 56 metered markets, up a big 15% from the prior week’s 4.0/10 for an episode hosted by Elizabeth Banks. In the past year, the only two episodes to have rated higher in the overnights was the Trump episode earlier this month (6.6/16) and the Jan. 24 show featuring “The Voice” judge Blake Shelton as host and musical guest (4.7/12).

Last night’s “SNL” was especially strong among young adults, with its 2.3 rating/11 share in the 25 markets with Local People Meters second for all of 2015 behind only the 2.7/13 for the Nov. 7 installment. Excluding that episode hosted by Trump, last »

‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’ Debuts to Franchise-Low $101 Million

22 November 2015 7:52 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” dominated the weekend box office with the final film in the science-fiction franchise debuting to $101 million.

That ranks as the year’s fifth biggest opening, but it wasn’t as big a sendoff for Katniss Everdeen and her fellow revolutionaries as some had predicted. The massive bow falls short of tracking that projected the picture would top $120 million in its initial weekend in theaters. It also represents a low for the series, falling far short of the $158.1 million high-water mark established by 2013’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” It’s a sign, perhaps, that interest in the dystopian world of Panem has crested.

Investors in Lionsgate, the studio behind the series, reacted negatively to news that “Mockingjay – Part 2” would miss projections, sending the company’s stock down more than 3% on Friday.

The series made up ground overseas, picking up $147 million after debuting in nearly every significant foreign territory, »

'Saturday Night Live' Review: Matthew McConaughey's Return to Hosting Was Just 'Alright, Alright'

22 November 2015 7:10 AM, PST | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

The last time Matthew McConaughey hosted "Saturday Night Live," it was a different era. No, seriously. Back in 2003 – very much pre-McConaissance – the actor hosted an early February show (musical guest: The Dixie Chicks; again, a different era) to promote "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," which had opened the day before. See? A different era. Now that he's got all sorts of accolades under his belt, why not turn up on the show again, just to have some fun? That might have been the thinking when scheduling McConaughey who, unlike the rest of the 2016 hosting cast currently on deck (from Ryan Gosling to Chris Hemsworth to Tina Fey & Amy Poehler), isn't out actively promoting anything. It could really just be – and forgive me here – an alright, alright, alright time. Despite a dreary, rainy evening in New York City on Thursday, more than 750 guests — a melange of Hollywood, the culturati, New York society and the current cast of “Saturday Night Live” — stepped out to attend the American Museum of Natural History’s annual black-tie museum benefit. Lorne Michaels, executive producer of ‘SNL,’ and Tina Fey co-chaired the swanky gala, which raises money for the museum’s educational and scientific programming.

On the red carpet, ‘SNL’ cast members were buzzing about working with Matthew McConaughey, who for the first time in 14 years, is hosting the show on Nov. 21. The actors raved about the Oscar-winner’s strong work ethic and willingness to make fun of himself.”Matthew McConaughey has never disappointed a human being in his life, and he’s not picking this week to do that,” said Bobby Moynihan. “He is the best. Tina Fey And Amy Poehler Stage A Family Reunion In New Sisters Trailer

While Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer are busy cooking up their own self-scripted rendition of a siblings comedy, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will soon stage their own family reunion for Sisters.

Coming by way of Universal, the studio today released a new clip for the uproarious comedy, and it’s clear that Fey and Poehler’s latest collaboration is being angled in a similar vein to Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect. Indeed, Jason Moore, director of the latter feature film, is on board to direct Sisters, which has the two actresses star as a pair of disconnected siblings who come together upon learning of their parents’ decision to sell the family home.

Struggling to come to terms with the loss of their childhood abode, Fey and Poehler deem that there’s only one thing that’ll serve as an adequate send-off: an epic party. And so, the remainder of the »

One More Party Trailer for Counter-Programming Comedy 'Sisters'

20 November 2015 8:24 AM, PST | | See recent news »

"We can not have a party..." Where will you be at the weekend of December 18th? Hopefully in theaters celebrating the return of Han and Chewie and Leia. But if every show is sold out and you still have to see something, this is one of the alternatives - Sisters. It's a comedy starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as sisters who return to their home town and decided to throw one last raging party. It opens the same day as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which means it's fairly smart counter-programming to offer up to everyone not interested in space operas. I definitely won't be seeing this, but some of you may have no choice. Enjoy! Here's the newest trailer (#3) for Jason Moore's Sisters, directly on YouTube (via Collider): You can catch the first official trailer for Sisters here, if you want to see even more footage from this. »
