“The Lady and the Panda” is a U.K./Chinese co-production, produced by Laura Bickford (“Traffic,” “Beasts of No Nation”) and Michelle Qi, CEO of Europe China Picture Group. The executive producers are Joe Simpson of Miscellaneous Entertainment, Andrew Mann, and Fiona Druckenmiller (“Beasts of No Nation”).
Harkness was the first person to bring a live panda from China to the United States. She was a New York socialite whose wealthy explorer husband died unexpectedly in 1936. Rebecca Ferguson is set to star in the Skydance sci-fi pic “Life,” sources tell Variety.
Daniel Espinosa is directing the film with David Ellison and Dana Goldberg producing along with Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn. The project, an original idea, has a script written by “Deadpool” duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.
Story follows the crew of the International Space Station, who, after retrieving a sample from Mars, discover that it displays signs of life, and proves to be more intelligent than expected.
